Dead..? :?

Certainly not ! 8-)

I am working on a special map tool (in editor) that will allow to all modders and campaigns designers to easely rebirth SC1 if they want, with full modern and recent functions of SC3, on a 75 x 75 map with special graphs adapted tiles.

The map will be also inspired by that sort of little thing, if you know what it is... :P

Once we've revived SC1, we'll try to sell it to Hubert...

Ok, ok..., I know  : Coasts are a little bit "old school". But it's SC1, not SC3

Don't take in mind units and capitals, I placed them only to be able to register the map in workUsed graphs for cities, forests, mounts, etc will be graphs I used for my SC 3r mod in the past

Unfortunatly, the dream to rebirth SC1 will dead... :|

For one reason I just discovered, I did not see that before to begin :

Because of complicated system for painting coastal tiles in SC3 (not adapted for a little map in scale SC1), I planed to use only non-coastal tiles, after a graphic conversion of these tiles to create false coasts.

But the problem is that : In SC3, coastal tiles of vanilla game do not accept ground units ; and non-coastal tiles do not accept "naval transport" + do not accept ports.

If I use non-coastal tiles cases, naval transport will be impossible (and naval invasions, etc)
If I use coastal tiles cases, these tiles will not accept ground troops

So, it's absolutly impossible to adapt SC3 to the SC1 scale, without to recreate entire set of coastal tiles graphs (because coastal tiles cases of SC3 are not adapted for SC1 scale) : an enormous work and I can not do that.

I had prepard a europe map for nothing. Too bad...

If I had needed knowledges to build a map editor for SC1, I would do it, but I have not... SC3 is a great game and I love it, but it's now a more longer et bigger game, SC1 had this advantage to allow to play entire WW2 Iin one day and it was very fun. I would like to have the 2 games with map editor for each... I did never understand why Hubert did not create a map editor for SC1 in the past (2002 years)

I think you can still do this. If you use coastal sprites (e.g. 332, 333, 341, 356) that do not jut into the sea too much, you can create coastal hexes that do not allow land movement but they will allow a port to be added. SC3 will not cope with a hex that is both a port and a land hex with land units but is that necessary? For example, the Cotentin Peninsula (Cherbourg) would be a land hex with a port on the north hex edge. Anyway, just a thought.

Thanks for ideas, but I had not the capacities to build a new map (not enough patience).

Due to the talent of pzgndr, the SC1 dream is not dead : he did a nice reduced SC3 map 8-)

Why not build the entire Mod using the SC3 game engine? You don't have to create a map of the hole world. Or if you did, don't forget the companion game The Rising Sun.

I sill have the 3R maps mounted on sheet metal with magnetic counters. If any one is in the Reno, NV you can have the games. It took a long time to come up with computer strategy games. I remember in the early days, before the mouse, they advertised rollers that were used to scroll maps. You can play 3R on VASSL using the old rules. SC is a better game than the old 3R computer version, which I also have.

That's what pzgndr did : his map was made with SC3 WIE editor

I realize that, I mean use the most up to date game engine to to make the 3R Mod. Not just the map. I am assuming the SC3 game engine is more flexible than SC1. It is just a thought. I am not a modeler.

ok, I see what you mean.
By the past, I used SC1 ro recreate the "look" of ATR (but the mod used SC1 Mechanisms)

There are 2 ways

1/ To just give SC3 WIE the "look" of Third Reich Avalon hill (ATR), but to keep the vanilla SC3 mechanisms (= to play SC3 WIE with appearence of ATR : sounds, graphs, deco, etc)

2/ To do what Pzgndr did = to try to re-build ATR with SC3 WIE engine, adapting SC3 mechanisms to ATR

If some users are interested for solution N°1, I could do that : I have all stuff to give SC3 WIE the total look of original ATR (3R sounds, 3R deco graphs, extracted from the original 3R Avalon hill PC version, etc)

Concerning solution 2/ Pzgndr will be more efficient than me to do that sort of thing
