I evaced the three DD's from HK and set industry to not repair and started building fortifications. It fell the first time ACR attacked it and I was completly shocked.

Ambonia has held tight for I think 5 days now. I dont think it will last too much longer though.

I saved 90% of my units in the PI and Malaya from being defeated in detail and now I have them consolidated into defensible areas. It remains to be seen how long they can last.

Battle for Rabaul and the upper Solomons is starting now. A japanese cruiser force has been pounding Rabaul for the past two turns, and yesterday a Japanese taskforce began unloading troops at Admirality island. Several japanese taskforces can be seen heading into the area, and it is confirmed that there are Nells operating out of Truk in support of the offensive.

I'll return with some screenshots when I get the next turn from 2nd.

At the same time most of the KB are in the NEI smacking up the Dutch shipping in the area. In the past few turns I have lost a dozen transports.

Airstrikes from the RAAF airunts stationed at Rabaul prove inneffective and Japanese troops could storm ashore at Talasea. In a surface encounter a US heavy cruiser is ambushed by 4 japanese cruiser and in a violent action is sunk.

Opening moves

21st Pursuit squadron had been fighting a losing battle against the Japanese airfleets supporting the invasion of the Phillipines. For the men at Clark Field, the war had started with a sledgehammer blow on the 7th. Over 150 japanese fighters and bombers had dealt the US Airforce a devastating blow in the morning hours. Only a handful of fighters had managed to get airborne, and those who did were quickly sent back into the ground by scores of Zeros. 2nd LT Ellis had not even made it off the ground. His fighter had been one of those hit on the ground in the first wave. Over the next days the Japanese bombers returned regularily to further pound Clark Field into dust. The ground crews were frantically trying to get at least some fighters airborne, but they were fighting a losing struggle against the Bettys.




In Pearl Harbor, the news of the Japanese attack had come as a shock to everyone. Early on December 7th the reports were sketchy and contradicting, but as the day passed, it became clear that a disaster had befallen upon COMSUBPAC. As December 7th turned into December 8th it was clear that the US submarine forces in the Philippines had lost close to 90% of their strength. A handful of subs were reporting in as they were heading out to sea at flank speed with various degrees of damage. One submarine was undamaged. Captain Borowski had been summoned to a commander conference at CentPac HQ late on the night between the 7th and the 8th. Two hours later the USS West Virginia left port as leader of the newly created Battleship Squadron 1.

Aboard the USS Lexington the first news of the attack reached the bridge around 1200 Zulu. The ship immideately went to Battle Stations. LTCD Ramsey was immideately put to work organizing combat air patrols above the taskforce. Over the next days, the aircrews aboard the Lex would work around the clock to provide aircover for the ship. No one knew where the Japanese carriers would be heading next, but they had showed the destructive force of naval airpower and no one would underestimate them again.

I jumped a day or two too fast. Panzer had a 4 BB's waiting in ambush at Rabaul. A brave CL gave its life defending the transports as they fled at flank speed. My Betties managed to sink an Australian CA in reply.

In Malaya, I have cut the penninsula in half. The northern defenders are now cut off from Singapore. Mersing was a mistake, I must now decide how to withdraw the units there or try and hold out. I have yet to decide.

Burma, my forces are resting up at Tavoy before pushing off again. Supplies are rapidly building up.

The PI region remains unchanged, almost a status quo as I rest up my forces and Panzer digs in.

China is now turning into a slugfest at Changsa. But he can not hold for long against the massive forces I am throwing at him.
