Hi Herbieh,
Yes someone is still here reading your AAR.[:D]

I would keep KB in theatre. Two reasons. First you won't have the base forces to support all the planes. Second the B-17s will dust any base they are at before you can use them against an invasion. B-17s are quite ineffective against KB at sea. Note I said at sea.[:D]

I truly loved those 300 plane raids against Condor. I know he hated them.[;)]

Indeed, herbieh. Both your posts and wobblys are must reads [:)]

And, yes - I did hate the 300+ plane raids.

About as much as Quark hated the 50 plane B-17 raids on his bases. [:'(] Supplies. Now you see 'em, now you don't!

Keep going herbieh... very enjoyable reads!

thanks for the interest guys, we had a week of im waiting for your turn while he was waiting for mine[:@]
still, back into the fray we go.
KB will stay, repair rates are slow.
Woodlark has heaps of troops and stuff enroute, and that is the sum of naval planning at the moment, it is taking me about 2 mins to plot a turn, it is so quiet, Im sure wobbly is very, very busy, me, Im as ready as can get.
Tonys on map, forming CAP over irau

Emilys playing night time port attacks on efate just to annoy him, and that is that.
A small convoy is trying for PM
Tanaka at Rabual positively screams at Command for action, and orders yet another coat of paint to his shiny CA amarda.

something is brewing

Post by herbieh »

Bad weather, no flying, no action

But my Mavis search spot at least 2 CVs about 10 hexes due south of GG
I believe a raid on PM is coming

So, flying boats are moved out
No fighters there, except some rufes, put to 90% cap
Woodlark has nearly 100 fighters on Cap at 90%, with some lovely juicy targets, hope he tries here!
I have some barges on the reef to the east of GG, and one AP there trying to fuel them, they may be the target too.
So Munda LBA prepares.....[:D]

At last wobbly is starting to sniff about

KB has to sail from Truk as a precaution, i move her due west out of truk, trying to avoid subs, I want wobbly thinking she is still at shortlands

Yum, things happening at last

Very suspicious

Post by herbieh »

Wobbly CVs fade away again, he knew he was spotted, but more suspiciously a float plane from a CA recons near nevea.
Very sus.
As the weather is terrible, Im keeping everyone on alert for a day more, something is up!
KB leaves truk , no sub sightings.
I move a small task force to lunga, ready for a counter strike.
44th division, more troops!, arrives tomorrow.
Wobbly may be growing in strength, but I now can put 3 divisions into the point of dispute, has he got 6?

have a go ya mug

Post by herbieh »

Wobbly disapears again
I would bet nevea is next, and soon, lots of thunderstorms about.
So I have sent a 2cl,5dd force to the area, waiting for a chance
Had to stand down a lot of planes, storms and fatigue will give high losses otherwise.
KB crawls south from truk
A whole new division arrives truk, what to do with it?

The plan remains the same, he lands, I use fighters only for 3 days to raise his fatigue, then day 3, LBA is released, and Tanaka starts fast transporting in a regiment a day, and the BBs another one.
Nevea will be contested in a skirmish manner, every other base its the kitchen sink!

Smashed into strawberry jam

Post by herbieh »

Not much happened over the weekend, until the last turn, 74 b17s 12 hudsons smashed irau flat.
Carnage
Carnage
A big big mess.
Nearly 25 fighters lost on the ground and in the air, the Tony squadron almost ceases to exist.
Stung, KB sails south, Yammato sails south, hes picked a fight, well its coming boy, its coming[:@][:@][:@]

But do you think he'll really come out to play? I bet he's hiding back in his hole again before you reach him!

Attack

Post by herbieh »

The weather has been bad the last 2 days, allowing a task force of 2cl and 5 dds to get undetected within strike range of lunganville.
It will probably be suicide, but I order attack!
A few long lances into a BB that is there will help big time.
So after no action for a while, tonight a turn might go longer than 5 minutes.
Irau is still a mess[:(]

A failed gamble pays in blood

Post by herbieh »

The attack on Lunganville went in, the entire purpose was to try to get a long lance into a BB
2 CL and 5 DDs steam into the harbour, and the screen is full of 2 BBs, 1cl and so many DDs there was no room left

LONG LANCE ATTACK, Range 2000 Yds!
Whoo Hoo I thought!

missed[:(]

Well the results were what you would expect after blowing that golden chance, over 4, yes 4 punishing rounds the battle went, each one seeing the range grow, each one seeing yet another ship of mine slowly punded to scrap
I lost all my ships
I think he lost 1 dd, and quite a few damaged.
But still a defeat[:@] of major proportions

next mission
On the next clear day, KB is going to put every fighter I have on LRCAP over Irau, and see if I can cull a few B17s.
Kaga seems stuck on 21 system damage, really really think she should go home, I might get some BBs released instead.

The war continues to go badly.

Back again

Post by herbieh »

The last troops marooned in Aussie land are taken.
No other major action
My crippled carrier at Truk remains stubbornly at 21 system damage, the only ship in the base and it wont repair!
NOT HAPPY JAN!

KB sneaks over to irau, massive CAP over the place, hoping Wobbly will attack with his B17s.
Nothing else I can do, waiting on the steamroller.

Hard to say what to do with that CV. It would fix faster back at Tokyo, but you would probably never see it again.

You said there might be some BBs released, do you need surface combat assets? if you do, then send the CV home. If not, you may as well keep it.

Suspicious

Post by herbieh »

I wonder if the AI detects heavy CAP over a target and prevents air raids going in
No B17 raid that turn on Irau, wonder if wobbly is trying to launch one?
I think I will have to ask him
About 1 more day then fatigue levels will be too high to maintain the Cap
All the radio chatter must have alerted him by now!

Still pretty quiet on the front.

Dig in!

It's a waste of time to try to 'catch B17s'....go home and rest your cv's.
I've built Shortland to a port size 9 and is resting my cv's there.

They do repair - but not very quickly. Still, I would not send back the Kaga with 21 sys damage.
She's still as fast as your Junyo class cv's - not to talk about your cvl's that most likely accompanies her.
In addition - she's also your most durable carrier and can take a lot of hits without sinking.

I did send back 2 cv's in one UV game, but they had 35+ sys damage - and I actually got em back.
By loosing minor ships and sending damaged AP's home, ship reinforcement jumps to 'Moderate' and if you will
receive either bb's or cv's. (I always get cv's first if available)

You will most likely experience several relatively quiet months now while Wob gathers his forces (I've not read Al's aar recently and know zip about his plans, so it's just an assumption bases on personal experiences). Use this time well and prepare a welcome committe. Much like I'm doing in one of my games.

Got only a few 40 skill pilots and all Betty and Nell squadrons are at full strength together with all my other airgroups.
Will be a helluva battle in feb-mar 43 when my opponent finally makes his move [8D]

Too late

Post by herbieh »

KB retires again. She goes to shortland, and wont move again
TOO late PZB, Kaga went home
She will be back in 89 days, akagi in 130 days
Its still October in the game, if he attacks in january, she may even be back, or nearly so.
Hope to get some BBs in return, they I will throw about in counter attacks, troop lift, amazing how many troops a few BBs can carry.
And I have plenty at Rabual
Wobbly will attack too early, you watch and see.....[8|]

I got 4 WITP games and now 2 Brand new uncommon valor games starting
and I get home yesterday to enjoy some game time but my wife had taken our
back door off bless her little heart to install a knew one.
well I managed to frame and hang a door in 2 hours flat, well I finished up today
with the molding work and managed to take out the electrical line in the wall with my
next to the last nail.
I will fix that next week as it took to much time away from the war effort.

Post by herbieh »

Its terrifying looking at the ships sunk list, me , heaps sunk, Wobbly, stuff all.
Im doomed
When the steamroller arrives it will be huge
For the allied fan boys, its going to be fun to watch.

KB is lurking north of lunga, BBs at Lunga.
Clear weather and nothing flew, wobbly really must be getting close to unleashing his hordes.
