Hi, Well I'll let you in on a little secret of mine. I never use CA Mogami to escort transports.
You will recall she once fired a spread of Long Lance and sank 4 transports. (All Japanese including the one the CO of 16th Army was embarked on. He was fished out of the water)
Then she collided with CA Mikuma at Midway. Mikuma was sunk by later USN air attacks. She was picked rather then Mogami because the pilots thought she was a BB. (Mogami's bow was caved in so the pilots thought Mikuma was a larger ship and did not realize they were sisters) (and of course Mogami's DC officer flooded the mags and tossed the torpedo's over the side where Mikuma kept hers and blew up)
Mogami was not what I'd call a lucky ship.

I was the only one drinking during the contest. You should see my turns during Ohio State football games drinking 20 beers eating several pounds of cheese and enough hamburgers and brats to feed several third world countries. After doing those turns some times I wonder why I did these things. I think I will need to drink a lot during this game, since the japanese seem drunk with runaway power: well at least the allies should be too.

My problem with the plan in general is how does any of this equate to "Lawerence, Stonewall or Sun Tzu"? It is simply a land grab that converts into static defense and then it is the Allied player not the Japanese who does all the hit and runs.

Again, I'm going to trust Mogami on the logistics and supply issues for the Japanese. However, I will say that the only way I can honestly see how LA, Stoney, and Sun Tzu apply is probably with the American Response for the first year (theoretically at least). I can see how an American response is nothing but a series of rapid raids over a number of months to cause massive damage to the LOC's and Supply lines by not necessarily sinking merchant shipping, rather causing enough damage that available healthy merchants are hard to find. Raid continue until strong enough to begin a deliberate counter attack at key strategic points. Mix in the equation that to repair these same ships is going to cost alot of scarce supply. Now, again trusting Mogami, it becomes a question of do I fix the ships or do I try to maximize shipping with the healthy ones, and forgo production of war material for a few months while I build up a supply reserve. I don't see how that's going to work, placing a weakened Japanse Military even deeper into trouble; Now, factor in the sub warfare issue by placing allied subs in key shipping lanes, this now forces Japanse LBA and DD class warships into an ASW role or just allow an unopposed Allied Sub campaign, weakning an already weak frontline rapid deployment force to respond to these Allied Raids. Ergo...the LA aspect of the Allied response, stike rear area's and force a mobile defense of Japanese lines of communications, eating up valuable and precious supplies, fuel and equipment at a rapid rate. Stoney now kicks in, with what I posted earlier about deception, Japanse now must increase operational tempo to maintain early warning sufficient enough to properly respond to sighted Allied TF's. Enough feints with Allied TF's, the real one will slip through to create enough havoc to cause every feint to be considered the real one. Allies, when strong enough, grab a couple of Key Atolls, base LBA's and proceed to starve the outlying areas to oblivion. Command and Control of the Japanese supply lines from within.

Summary, there is no way this plan will succeed, unless the Allied player is completely brain dead, in my honest opinion. Mogami and a few others have pointed out the weakness of it, and I will concur.

Now, my question is:??? Given the tenous supply situation, vast areas around the Japanese Homelands, and the industrial might of the Allies, is there a Plan that would actually prolong the war long enough, to give the Japanese a fighting chance at a draw, or even a neogotiated peace at some point... or are the Japanese in position that from the start that the outcome is already known and already a pre-determined defeat but not just readily apparent yet.....

Hi, Yes.....At least that is what we are all going to find out over the next few years.
I base all Japanese plans on the war being 3 phases.

Phase 1 the SRA

Phase 2 Where Japan does act like LA and Stoney. Don't seize bases. keep the striking power intact and mobile. Find exposed targets, hit them and then retire to safety.
Simply put, if Japan does nothing at all it will take the Allies till mid 1943 to make a major offensive.
Japan can move that time forward by losing material in meaningless battles or by spreading it out and commiting it to static defense that does nothing to stop the Allies (they are not coming before mid 1943 unless you provide a target)

Phase 3 The battles for control of airfields in range of Home Islands.
Japan has kept her force intact for the purpose of throwing it at the enemy in massive counter strokes aimed at defeating Allied landings. The cost is no longer a factor. Japan commits everything to the defense of the point the Allies choose to attack.

The longer Japan can delay the start of phase 3 the closer the end of the game is when it starts. The Allies must be forced into rushing. If they have time to prepare every massive blow they will succeed.

At least that is how I view the long campaigns of WITP from the Japanese side.

Well as things are now, I don't have very much to do any offensive operations in the Eastern pacific. I think he has bought himself some time in that regard. If I can secure Pearl harbor real well I think I have a better chance. In the west the key is to get british forces to the Burma area and save as much of the Navy as I can. I think I will be more happy when Allied force start to show up in greater numbers, as of right now he hurt my fleet with the two day turns, thus many of them where too hurt to move on the next turn so they got pounded on the next turn too.

Well that turn was a real slow one. Not much going on. He took Luganville, and some Dutch bases. Now what to do with Pearl and Burma. Can I hold Singapore, Java, and Sumatra. Only time will tell. He also took Dutch harbor, still don't know what to do with Alaska. Should I let it go, or like the US spend a lot to take it back? I think he will still have a easy ride for the next few weeks or should I say months until Allied production kicks in.

The war in China begins after a ten day delay. The Chinese should be a lot harder to shove aside now. I can already see bright yellow in most of the major cities.

I don't feel as bad right now, but I think bad things are coming towards Pearl harbor. It seems like most of his action in in this area and in the South Pacific along with Boreno. I got in a few hits with torps on a Japanese BB at Midway, but Midway will fall on the next I think.

I'm kinda spread thin here. The invasion fleet is arriving, finally though. I suggest that Hirohito make his own scenario with better pre-war deployments so it doesn't take so long.
