RE: Japanese losses

Post by WiTP_Dude »

The main question is how to keep him from moving his divisions against my line too early in the game. I've got a growing army of Betty bombers and Emily float planes that can be employed for this purpose. Keeping the Americans in California until 1943 is a major reason for seizing the entire Pacific. It buys time. After that you just hope to slow them down and prevent them from getting too close to Japan.

For some reason on the combat replay the Carrier battle of SF did not show up on it and when I looked at the intelligence page I had lost a lot of planes to op loses. So I guess we had a battle and noticed he had some op loses. I guess he said he is coming for New Zeland. Well I can't really do to much since I can't get any troops there. I guess I am going to have to get to Japan from some other directions. However this won't happen until I get some more ships and planes and troops. So I will try to bloody his nose until he runs out of steam. If he wants Pearl harbor he better get more ships and plan for a bloody fight.

I'm trying to starve you out but I don't really know how to calculate supply usage. I know Pearl Harbor starts with 50,000 supply points but I don't know how long that last. Haven't ever played the Allies so it's a bit of a mystery.

Well I am not going to tell you how much I have. I am still wondering why on the combat replay I did not get the Carrier battle.

Did your carrier get hit? Mine got hit so there had to of been a carrier battle.

PH Estimates

Post by WiTP_Dude »

I ran a quick check on PH to see what happens to supply on a daily basis:

The initial supply level is 40,000, not 50,000 like I thought earlier. After a normal one-day December 7th, supply is down to 37,500. For my 10-carrier, two day strike I think we can estimate a total of 35,000.

By my estimates your pearl harbor forces use around 700 supply points per day in these type of conditions. So doing a simple calculation:

35000/700 = 50

You will run completely dry of supply around the end of January. I can wait a few more weeks before invading.

ofcourse he can use 80% of his sub fleet to ferry supplies and send lone merchant ships.. subs definetly wont and lone merchants sometimes wont be spotted ..

But then again routine port strikes at PH will sink them while unloading.. and yet PH has good AA capabilities so it could be quite painful for cba

I don't think those subs can carry much in the way of supplies. They only carry like 20 supply points each. Also it will be difficult to sneak merchants in since I've got Emilies on Hilo and am running carrier patrols in circles around the hawaiian islands.

Hi, I bet the Japanese run out of fuel and supplies first

(Hint: There is an Allied aircraft that can reach PH from West Coast. It can carry supply.
I won't say it's name but it's initials are B-17)

Submarines can carry supply.

I think if the Allied player was able to collect all his healthy surface ships at one location he would have a larger TF then anything the Japanese can put together currently.

PH land units only eat supply once per month and when they engage in combat. It's PH aircraft that need supply the most. I think B-17 and submarine can bring in at least 1500 supply per month. (50 subs carrying 20 points each =1000 supply)

How much you want to put down? [:D]
(Hint: There is an Allied aircraft that can reach PH from West Coast. It can carry supply. I won't say it's name but it's initials are B-17)

How much can they really carry? I've got Betties doing the same thing and they aren't moving much supply per day.

I've already sunk six of the eight battleships. I think the other two are still trapped in the PH deathtrap. If the Americans want to send a large TF to relieve their island outpost, I say bring it on!

I did some test and PH was using over 1000 supply points per day in combat situations. They have to fly CAPS, do all their anti-shipping attacks, run naval search patrols, and repair damage to ports and airfields. Plus the LCUs seem to need some supply every turn too. Barring a major relief convoy, the place will starve by the end of January no matter if B-17s and subs are available for supply runs.

Hi, Out of supply LCU fight at 25 percent. They don't require an immense amount to not be out of supply. PH LCU will still fight at 100 percent at the end of FEB! MARCH!
(100xB-17 bringing 1 supply point each bring in 100 supply per day. (3k per month)
50 subs can make at least 1 trip per month.
Supply will not be abundant but the LCU will also not be at 25 percent.

LCU are either in supply 100 percent combat effective or out of supply 25 percent combat effective there is no middle status.

You better start bombing the supply.

Well he is right about the surface fleet. The two day unopposed port attack destory almost my whole surface fleet. I have more supply than he thinks that I there. What is he going to do about a move in his rear from Java and Singapore. Yes my carrier got hit in the Carrier attack since it has damage. I am still not sure why on the combat replay that battle did not show up for me. I do think it will be hard for me to hold onto Pearl harbor. So far away and he is throwing everything he has to take. I am still not sure where he is going to get the oil he needs to run his economy. He needs to take Palembang, and to do that he will need to destory Singapore. The only eay he is going to do that is if he has stuff that he has not used before. So let's say he takes PH, it really doesn't bother me. I will have a bunch of carriers in a few months and enough ships to send a convoy so big to PH that even if I take a 50% loss rate I will get a lot of supplies there. Taking back Alaska is easy to do, but do I want to do it. He better worry about the British, because they will not sit around, they well be a pain in his side.

Maybe this is just a wild guess, but running B-17s to PH without air cover sounds like a turkey shoot for the Zeros on Hilo and Lahaina. I remember attempting to supply some paratroops I dropped on Akyab without air cover. Pretty much got the entire squadron destroyed or damaged within a few days.

At best this kind of B-17 supply stunt will end up with a lot of damaged aircraft due to the distances involved. At worst they will all be destroyed within a few days. The only way to really resupply the island is with a horde of AKs. Maybe if there are enough of them the Betties will get confused and miss a few. The rest will be sunk.

cap will take care of the b-17's, but unless you really commit a LOT of ships to asw then the subs will get through

It seems like you guys are getting bit by some kind of bug in the Combat Reports. An entire CV vs. CV battle that never showed up according to both of you, the BB Tennessee showing up in reports of Allied aircraft attacking Japanese ships, all kinds of glitches in what I'm seeing.
This game does not have a learning curve. It has a learning cliff.

Any bugs I report are always straight stock games.
