RE: To the bitter end, sveint(J) vs McPhie(A)
Just arrived in house following extensive recon of Cypriot Beaches.
Any potential invasion has been cancelled to many babes on the beach would destroy effectiveness of invading forces
not to mention extensive shore based defences based around the lots of cheap booze defensive strategy....
(btw the Bar based defensive belt is multi layered so even if you could get the navy to bombard there would still be plenty of grog to ensure that no Marine got more than 200 yards off the beach assuming they got passed the babes)
Anyway Allied command re focusses on the fight in the Phillipines.
(ps doing turns after a 6 hour flight while still hungover from night before is not recommeded for good allied decision making)

RE: To the bitter end, sveint(J) vs McPhie(A)
OK most places are very quiet but Burma Front is really hotting up.
Following the Allied victory near Rangoon the Allies won another victory over the major Japanese field army at Moulmien this turn.
This has lked to an opportunity if Im brave enought o go for it.
The situation
Mandalay is secure and Pagan will be recaptured soon.
The Japanese have 3 main concentrations
1. 60000 troops (heavily disrupted having been defeated twice in a week) at the road rail junction above Moulmien.
2. 10000 combat ready between Pagan and Rangoon
3. A small unit off the road network near Rangoon.
4. 5000 at Tavoy
I have 20000 troops behing lvl 9 forts at Rangoon and 90,000 at Moulmien plus enough at Mandalay to make that base secure and a few forces of Chinese Divisions rertaking northern Burmese Bases.
Now I have some interesting choices.
I am guessing that Sveint will need to rest those forces before they are fit for another offensive so I should keep up the skeer and keep on em dont let them stop and rest so the bulk of my main army will push on after his main army (has the advantage of clearing my supply line).
But I am tempted to split my main army and try and retake Tavoy. Any thoughts ?
My only worry is what other forces are on the road heading for the rail line from Siam.
I have enough supplies for one more majr battle before I will need resupply from Rangoon
The cautious option would be to move my main army back to Rangoon for rest and replenishment but that seems a tad to cautious given the sacrifices of the Commonwealth forces to get this far.
Anyone got any suggestions or warnings for me it appears I have an opportunity I just aint sure how to properly exploit it .

I need to do something about Sveints bombardment taskforce but putting 3 or 4 R class Battleships up against 2 or 3 IJN Battleships supported by the super nasty IJN CA's does not seem a worthwhile risk.
Now if I neutralise Tavoy then mibee with an airstrike from Rangoon it may become worth considering.
The longer the invasion of Jaa waits the harder its gonna get for Sveint.
The Dutch are digging in for all they are worth in the bases that remain to themif only Java wasnt a total malaria zone...(ah well could be worse).
Also
More and more convoys are dumping men munitions and aircraft into my various staging bases.
Resources are sufficient that the USN is considering possibilities of an early CENPAC offensive.
(although this may be a triumph of optimism over sense)

Ahhhh ok ta
The more i think it through I think yer running at Moulmien hmmm should be interesting
Commonwealth forces are currently advancoing to the rear (ironicallly they really are advncing because the IJA is between Allied forces and Rangoon.

RE: To the bitter end, sveint(J) vs McPhie(A)
The battle in Burma continues although it now looks like the IJA is in full retreat to rest up having had its nose well and truly blooded by the victorious Commonwealth and Chinese troops.
I think it will take a few weeks for Sveint to rest those troops up for a re match in Burma.
To pursue or not to pursue that is the question.....
Less good news a Java evac convoy that got to close to Sumatra gets a further pasting from Singapore based bombers.
China is not looking to good Sveint is following up on early successes to pound along the rail line.
I cannot see where I will be able to stand in China nor am I convinced I should be on the rail line at least.
Well only time will tell.

RE: To the bitter end, sveint(J) vs McPhie(A)
Manila is lost although this aint my main worry
After two victories I examined the disruptioon of my Commonwelth army and was shocked. Key formations were at 30 dis 30 + fstigue.
If thats what Im like and I won without shock attacking then I hope sveint is worse.
I am rotating key formations into Rangoon to rest and recover as I cannot afford to follow up against Siam without rested troops.
Still no sign of the CV's anywhere I am getting paranoid now.
All convoys are going to take immediate evasive action and I am splitting all my SOPAC convoys into smaller gps so if one gets hit it wont be decisive.
I am seriously getting paranoid now where are those poxy carriers.
(My reaction is the main reason why the IJN shoulsd not reveal the location of the strikeforce. By doing nothing and keeping out of soight I am getting paranoid and reacting as though they were everywhere....)

BATTLE LINES CLASH IN NIGHT ACTION
Last Night Royal Navy Task Force P (for Pensioner) fought out a Jutland style Battle against the IJN.
4 RN R Class Battleships with screen fought a gun and torpedo battle at 5,000 yards off of Rangoon with 3 IJN BB's.
In fact I think the sides were quite equal 3 BB's and 4 CA's v 4 BB's and 2 CA's
I lost 1 BB 2 CA's and a CLAA the IJN lost 3 DD's on the face of it a decisive result for the IJN especially as one more RN BB may sink.
1 RN Battleship (HMS Ramillies) exploded during the first encounter however all three IJN Battleships are reported heavily damaged and its a long way to Singapore.
Overall I aint sure If I won or lost this one.
At first glance the RN lost as they got off to a terrible start but despite the beating the RN took in the first exchange they hung in the fight in the est traditions of the RN and I wouldnt be surprised if Yamashiro sinks and Kongo and Mutsu are a lot further from port than the RN force.
I will watch intel screens carefully I was right btw those dammed IJN CA's are if anything more dangerous than the BB's.
What a night !!!

RE: BATTLE LINES CLASH IN NIGHT ACTION
That was one massive battle.
Tactical victory to Japan but really a strategic minor vicotry to the Allies. Japan cannot afford to lose any ships, the Allies can.

RE: BATTLE LINES CLASH IN NIGHT ACTION
I agree sveint i think the IJN won on the night but if one or more IJN BB's sink then its even.
It looked like all three would need yard time in any event.

India is secure I am convinced that Sveint would struggle to make inroads on the mainland as reinforcements pour into coastal cities and nodal reaction forces are formed at key points on the rail net. 7th 18th and 2nd UK plus the imminent arrival of Brit Bdes and a few more Indian forces.
Despite the diversion of force to Burma I am convinced India will be ok.
Ceylon on the other hand I am unsure about
I have a few spare engineering units and inf Bgdes that I could use to secure the island but I am not sure if I am wasting forces.
Any of the Allied players have a view on this one.
Sveint has at least 4 BB's in one piece operating in the Indian Ocean versus in effect one RN squn centred on POW.
I have lost track of KB so they could be heading that way as well.
In the face of these portential odds I dont think I have the naval or air power to guaranttee Ceylon's security but I am loathe to land forces where they could get cut off.
Its a dilemma and I am unsure which way to go
Any of the Allied players have a view on this one ?
