It was never intented that a player be allowed to move the bulk of the China army into Manchuria to attack the Soviets or units from manchuria to attack the Chinese.
PP/HQ change requirements were thought to be enough.

No offence but I find this hard to believe. Surely the developers work from the assumption that players will do whatever the game allows them to? How many Japanese players who re-direct a couple of divisions to take PM are setting the HQ to Southeast Fleet first?

Another point - you can even retain the benefits of the Kwantung Area Army HQ if you move it to, say, Jehol (on the border, just in the NW zone) and give it an objective in China ... In fact, thinking about it, there's nothing to stop you moving it all the way to Wuhan or somewhere.

If you want to stop something happening you need to stop it happening, not just hint at it. Also, the whole Base/HQ/LCU assignment thing is only partially documented, which really doesn't help.

looking at the last 15-20 days, the allies seem to have fought the japanese to a standstill. The losses on both sides are enormous.

He better have landed 5 or 6 divisons to take Wellington. This operation has cost him at least two CVE's and maybe the Junyo or Hiyo. I hit one of these carriers with two trops and hit the other with a 1000 bomb. At least they will be in the yard for repairs. He now has lost over 1000 zero's and is commiting way to much to the New Zeland operation. If he takes what will it do. I don't move any more supply to Oz from the US any ways, except in the first two months of the game. I have moved great amounts from India and enough to last a long time. He will take the Clark Field and the rest because I can't get any more supply there. and it only starts with so much. Singapore has over 250,000 supply and enogh oil and resoures to produce a lot more supply. He will take DEI but it will cost him a lot more ships and planes if he wants to take it. He has lost a lot more pilots than I have. I have had about double the amount of planes destoried on the ground than he and he has lost almost 1000 more planes than me. So he is hurting in the pilot department. Burma and China still holding out and are getting more troops as the days go on. In the Alaska area no one is really doing anything.

Wow - it looks like I've spent the entire evening reading this AAR. The thing that surprises me the most is that Dude has taken such huge losses in planes and ships and yet he can maintain his multiple assaults and keep them supplied. Obviously the Japanese are better prepared for the war than most of us assumed - I've never tried to be that agressive because I've always been concerned about running "out of gas". I also hate to take such huge losses - I guess that I'll have to adjust my strategy from now on.

I wonder if all the OOB and other changes in 1.30 or 1.40 will affect this?

You will not run out of gas and supply as long as you take half of the DEI early on. You can go for several months or years on just this alone. Every Japanese player should try to go for at least a little bit more than was taken historically.

I'm not sure that is any more obvious than the predictions earlier on in the AAR that Dude was going to flounder at Hawaii. (I'm assuming that you didn't forget to put a "smiley" in your post.)

Dude's strategy of grabbing all those Easetern Pacific Islands with reasonably-sized forces has banished the US to the West Coast until late 1942. The game doesn't model what might have been the probable US reaction to a successful invasion of Hawaii, which likley would have been to move massive reinforcements to the West Coast - this only happens in the game if an invasion of the mainland occurs.

So, Zeta has a tough row to hoe ahead of him, particularly since he is short of BBs - assuming that Dude is putting CDs in those Eastern Pacific bases, as he has done in Alaska, it is going to be costly for Zeta to invade those islands, even when he has his carriers showing up in late 42/early 43. And even if Zeta decides to bypass Hawaii he will need to grab some islands to allow for refueling points. And even with a few Eastern Pacific bases in 43 Zeta is going to have problems grabbing territory in the Central Pacific without good surface forces to bombard bases. Additionally, Zeta needs forward bases from which to project the airpower that he will be getting. He can't fly/ship his planes around "the other way" to India.

On the "other side" of the map, Zeta is also going to have a tough time projecting British power back into Southeast Asia. He shouldn't be relying upon Singapore so heavily - Dude has shown elsewhere how a determined Japanese player can take fortresses which are guarded by the less-than-impressive troops in the early part of the war. Unless Zeta has been able to get some good troops into Singapore, Dude will be able to bring his troops out of the Phillipines and take Singapore with them.

As things stand, despite all of Dude's losses in ships and planes, I think that he will be able to hold off the Allied counterattack in 43, and if Zeta isn't careful, maybe in 44 also. But then, I could be wrong, because I was sure wrong earlier on when I underestimated Dude's potential to do so much damage in the Central Pacific.

BTW - "way back when", Dude was able to land some 20K of troops onto Midway. I didn't think that there was enough physical space on Midway to put 20K of troops. [;)] Wasn't there supposed to be some limitation on the number of troops landing and staying on atolls?
