RE: WitP Utility - beta available.
thanks, bodhi! looks like i need to resolve a turn...didn't do that before. [X(]
i could be wrong, but i could have sworn some of the created files you mentioned (the allied/japanese sig intel and ops reports) were in the save folder, not the sub-folder for the game slot (i have two subfolders for slots two and four) i'm hoping this is just because i did not resove a turn....i will verify tonight. i hope to get you more feedback soon [8D]
you mentioned something about having WITP running when starting the untility? should WITP be closed when running the utility? and vice versa?

RE: WitP Utility - beta available.
I lied. [:D] It makes working copies of some files in the save folder, but the ones it uses for display are the ones in the XXX sub folder.
Should be no problem running WitP and the utility together (actually it's required for combining the various intel/ops reports). I think I mentioned not running WitP (at least not resolving a turn) at the same time as editing a "game" in the utility in relation to some problems with editing "games". I always tend to start the utility first, then WitP, but should work the other way round, as long as turn resolution is not in progress. A key point is to have the correct "game" loaded in the utility BEFORE you resolve a turn, otherwise the new data will end up in the wrong folder.

RE: WitP Utility - beta available.
bodhi,
sorry to hog all your bandwidth with silly questions, but here goes...
i'm playing PBEM as allies....what is the correct sequence for using the utility....here's my assumption....
1) start utility and enter correct game and slot
2) start WITP and run the combat report (slot 001)
3) enter all my moves and end the turn, at which point i will be asked to save the game in the PBEM slot (in my case, slot 004)
so, right after step 2) above, i should be able to view all the op and sigint stuff for the previously sent japanese turn? did i get it right?
thanks!

HI Bodhi
Thanks for the work. A couple of questions..
Why does it start with save slot 3?
slot 0 is autosave
slot 1 is combat replay
slot 2 is useable...
Is save slot 3 actually slot 2? (yes, I am confused)
I am having the same problem getting data as Kwik E

Should clarify.... I haven't been able to have any data in any PBEM games I have going. Against the AI I have had success looking at ops reports.
RE: WitP Utility - beta available.
Yes you got it right, I think I may have got it wrong. [:D] Can't check now as at work, but PBEM Allies may be the problem. I'll check when I get home.

No reason why slot 2 isn't used, apart from a small mistake by me. [;)] Will be enabled in the next version.
See above reply, I think there may be a problem with PBEM as Allies (not that they should need any extra help from intel[:D]).

Thanks for the reply. I have not been able to get data as PBEM Japanese either, just so you know.

No txt files are being copied to the specific directories?

Thank you Bodhi!! Very nice. Took a small amount of tinkering to figure out that you must keep saving to previous save slot. (easier than changing). But very nice ops/intel reports. Finally able to easily track reports and see patterns. Already figured out sub locations from transmissions. Will try updated version to see if CSV reports working. Thanks again for the effort [&o][8D]

In UV I used to like to archive my game saves, and I did it after every turn. I found it easier then to use a different save slot for the save at the end of each turn, and then archive them later when I exited UV. The idea behind this utility is that you use the same save slot and the program can automatically, manually or both, archive the game saves, appending a date to the save and an extra letter suffix if you save a number of times before running the turn resolution.
Glad you're finding it useful.

Updated the download file.
Two small changes
1. CSV exports of the main scenario database files should now be working.
2. Clicking the "Reports" button when the report form is already open should result in the Intel/Ops data being refreshed.
Any problems/comments/suggestions, please post here.
Hi Bodhi,
I used to just close and reopen the reports button when finished reviewing for each turn. Since you placed the refresh in, the reports will not reopen when closed...just says being refreshed. I will try by not closing reports. Just wanted to let you know. Thanks again.

RE: WitP Utility - beta available.
hi bodhi,
still no joy in mudville....here's what i tried last night....(i'm allies playing PBEM v1.3)
1) started the utility and created a save game for slot 004, scenario 15, allies, PBEM, and left the Dec 7th default date.
2) selected the "auto detect saved games" option from right side of utility form
3) launched WITP
4) ran combat save from slot 001
5) loaded and ran the PBEM file from slot 004 (Dec 12th)...this is the file my japanese opponent sent me
6) entered my moves then saved game to 004 slot
7) maximized the utility window and selected the "reports" button
8) the info window informed me that the reports and maps were loading
9) didn't see any intel or op reports under the respective tabs [&:]

No WIN 98? Bummer! I like my 98. Being forced to tag along with the masses I guess.[8D]

Thanks for the heads up, one step forward, two back.[:(]
I gave that all of 3mins testing after I put it in, all I can say is that it worked for me then. When I get some more time, probably this weekend, I'll be revisiting the whole issue of detection of turn resolution and refresh of intel/ops data.

Thanks for the feedback.
No, you're doing everything fine. I'm pretty sure that there's a problem with the detection of turn resolution for Allied (and possibly Japanese) PBEM games. The current design needs to detect turn resolution has ended before it gets the new intel/ops report data. As it doesn't seem to be correctly determining the turn end, it never gets the intel/ops data. I've already got a number of ideas of how to resolve the issue, but it'll have to wait until I can look into it over the weekend.

RE: WitP Utility - beta available.
Not really. Little time to work on it this last weekend. Next on the ToDo list is the option for the user to indicate manually that the turn resolution has completed (should allow Win98/Me users to get going and give a fall back for PBEMers if the autodetection is causing problems), and possibly a LCU movement calculator. Will post when there's a new version or something else to report. Thanks for your interest and continued patience.

Bodhi,
Was curious if you had done any more work on this program?

No, not recently. I did intend to look at it over the holiday, but got distracted by Castles of Steel by Robert Massie and never got around to it.
Are you having any specific problems, or do you have any ideas for new features?
