Japanese Ships
CV Akagi, Bomb hits 8, Torpedo hits 2, on fire, heavy damage
...
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Day Air attack on TF at 130,89
Zero CAP fails to fly, sinking two smaller carriers.

Japanese Ships
CVE Chuyo, Bomb hits 6, on fire, heavy damage
CVL Ryuho, Torpedo hits 2, on fire, heavy damage
BB Ise
BB Hyuga, Torpedo hits 1
Day Air attack on TF at 115,89
Escort Carrier on fire.

Allied Ships
CV Wasp
CVE Long Island
CVE Suwannee, Torpedo hits 1, on fire

Japan loses a CV a CVE and probably a CVL in exchange for a torpedo hit on an American CVE. The tide has turned. KB won't be hunting down many more Allied supply convoys -- it's down to LBA for Japan now and his pilots are not very good anymore -- almost every plane was shot down in the attack that put one torpedo into the Suwannee. It seems likely that Mogami Harbor will be isolated, bombed and then successfully invaded this year. That would pretty much guarantee that the Japanese won't be able to win on points in 1943.

I do wonder if Zeta has made good use of the past year in India to fortify everything. After igoring China in the early days, the price might be high in 1943. Still, he's in better shape than Wobbly in that other AAR. I also wonder how effective the bomber offensive is -- seems to be turning East Asia into turf, but what is the real effect of that on Japanese supply/forces in the Burma-India-China theatre?

Will Zeta be able to push down the Aleutians and get to the northern islands to start pounding Japan with a bomber offensive from the north? Are the bases up there suitable for that sort of campaign?

There is still a long Pacific campaign for the Allies to fight. The loss of the carriers was an accident because they were actually just looking for convoy to sink rather than seeking an invasion fleet. It doesn't appear the Aleutians is a viable option due to the lack of good ports.

Plus the AI suck becasue of the weather for half of the year. Ports do not matter to me, the important thing to me is Airfield size. I have done work on India, but it is very hard to stop close to a million men where ever they go. Air power does not do much against land armies.

Most of the Aleutians can't build their airfields large enough to properly support B-29s. And nothing smaller than that is going to be able to reach Japanese industry from there.

Yep the Indiana was not going to make it back to SF. So the only choice I had was to send her towards Christmas Island so may be I could disband her on the next turn. It did not payoff. The only other ship really hurting is the SF the rest have some mid teens damage and will be fine. Now Island hoping will begin and now I can get some of the hundreds of planes on the West coast into the fight. My Burma army has been rebulit in India and the longer we waits to move through the Jungle the harder it will be for him. I know he is going to take Singapore, the goal is to make him take a fair amount of time. On Saturday I will post some screen shots of the score and planes and such. The long road towards Japan has begun.

It may be too soon to say this, but it appears unlikely that the Japanese are going to get 4:1 in victory points in '43. Even with lower IJN ship losses it would seem unlikely. As a "real world" strategy so far the Japanese seem to be doing very well, but as a "game" strategy it hasn't worked out as well. All IMHO and, as I said, preliminary results. Still very interested in how the rest of the game proceeds.
This game does not have a learning curve. It has a learning cliff.

Soviets Join the War

Post by WiTP_Dude »

A division accidentially crossed the border near Vladivostok, triggering the entry of the Soviets. This wasn't supposed to happen for a few more months. I guess some how I clicked go to Vladivostok instead of train for Vladivostok. [8|]

Oh well, I've been building up Manchuria since the fall of Chungking and it now has 16,000 assualt points with more on the way. I've got to do a lot of additional stuff so the turn won't be done until tomorrow some time.
