but got distracted by Castles of Steel by Robert Massie

Loved his book "Dreadnought", but somehow was disappointed with his (follow up title) "Castles of Steel". I thought the second book had a rushed feel to it. IMO.[:)]

No, not recently. I did intend to look at it over the holiday, but got distracted by Castles of Steel by Robert Massie and never got around to it.

Are you having any specific problems, or do you have any ideas for new features?

Mostly I have been using it to ensure I don't accidently wander within range of LBA. I can use your utility with the range rings, and its been a great help. I have to guess at what a/c they are using at that base, but it makes it easier than counting.

Have you ever perfected it for PBEM? I thought I had read there were issues with it, and as such, haven't really used it as you intended it to be used since I only PBEM.

Bodhi,

This is a great program.[&o][&o][&o]

A great addition would be the ability to view combat reports in the same method as intel and ops reports.

Edit: I found the readme file. Looks great! But what is Microsoft .NET? Are there any downsides to installing it?

Also, is this utility primarily for AI play or PBEM play?

But what is Microsoft .NET?

It's Microsoft's attempt once again to take over the world by having everyone use their development tools to the exclusion of everyone else on the planet. I could have sworn they *lost* the government case, but you would never know it. They just dropped java and have shifted into .NET [:D]

As to the downsides of installing ... well, like all software, it's got bugs ... not real sure it's even supported on older operating systems like 98 & ME.

Applications are supported on Win98/Me/NT4/2000/XP (only the last 2 for development), but the current version of the WitP utility has some NT4/2000/XP specific API calls so it won't run on 98/Me.

Hi Bodhi,

I also was wondering if you were working anymore on this for PBEM. I have gotten hooked on PBEM and tried the utility but it doesn't seem to record the turn replay and when I open the reports I get nothing. Thanks Pat

There are two main problems with the current version: it doesn't work with Win98/Me and it probably doesn't work for Allied (or Japanese?) PBEM players. Both problems are related, and I think the last thing I did in the dev version was to introduce a manual option to get the latest reports after turn resolution. Unfortunately I also started to do some other things to it. I'll check and see if I can tidy it up and release a version with the manual option. It'll probably be a few days to a week until I get round to it though. Hopefully you'll have it in time for the next patch (1.5).[;)]

Hi mate, looks like you have been working hard on this for a few months now - it's looking like the #1 utility. Looks like you won't be playing many games of BTR for a while.

One point a little more detailed 'how to use' it and step by step 'do this' in your instructions would be great for those that love the game but are not very 'techie'.

All the best mate and fantastic job.

Looks like you've resized the window. Just put the cursor on the right edge of the window and you should get a double arrow cursor. Then left-click and drag right to expand the window back to the correct size.

Thanks for your effort. As the allies you don't load the save when getting the replay so may be only them PBEM. Thanks again for working on the manual option, great utility. Pat

It's not a window size problem, That's the way it appears and there are no double arrows to correct the problem. Your program does work under XP Pro?? I've un-installed and then re-installed and the program starts up this way. If I click on the Scenario the drop-down does appear to select correct one, another 2 inches or so appears to the right of the box with the complete wording of the Scenario.

Don't see any reason why it shouldn't work under XP Pro. Unfortunately, I don't have XP Pro, but if someone would be willing to donate a copy, and a system to run in on, I'd be willing to test it out. [:D]

I've got XP Pro, with SP2. The utility works fine on my machine. I went in and tampered with display sizes and font sizes too, to try and recreate that effect, but no joy. No matter what the fonts looked like, the utility kept the same fonts.

I also use it using XP Pro and SP2. I have no problem with the window size.

Here's another screen print, I'm getting more info now since I modified the Shortcut to start the program maximized, so I getting a different look. Still can't do anything. Anybody got any ideas. The back screen the WiTP Utility is complete it appears. just cut off in my capture to reduce image size.

The front (incomplete screen) is the "game editor" form. The "game" you're entering is invalid as it doesn't have a name. Although you can't see it in your screen (just widen the window), there should be a warning marker indicating such to the right of the game name text box.

The rear, maximised screen won't enable the reports button until you've selected a "game". Trying clicking the "new game button", which will open the game entry form, and enter the info for a game (details should be in the included readme). Then when you return to the main form, the reports button should be enabled. Note that you won't have any info to display until you end a turn in WitP.

The problem is that the incomplete "Game Editor" window will not widen to let me see the rest of the window. The size it is at is what it is. That is why I'm having problems. The incomplete screen prevents me from clicking on anything that is on the main screen in the background. To be clear. I'm not opening the "Game Editor" it appears by itself on startup of the program. And is in the incomplete state that you see. There are no double arrows to widen the window. It's entirely cutoff for some reason. Is this an error or something. Attaching another JPEG with more detail Thanks for your responses.
