Well. The movie got more yakking time here then most other places probably, which serves to illustrate my point: The folks in this forum like history (books, games and movies). But we are a niche, not the average mean.

Nobody is gonna ask investers to spend a lot of money for a niche game. (I assume.) Investers are a timid lot, sometimes, and want something in the "sales pitch" that give them a "warm fuzzy" feeling that their money is well invested. A WiTP2 may not happen if the sales of WiTP1 was impressive enough. (I assume.)

I wonder if they even read Homer's poems. Agamennon was not killed during the final battle by a female slave.He was killed by his wife Clitemnester when i got back at Mycen. Achilles was not in love with that damned slave. he was totally homosexual and got pissed with his king only because he stole something that was under his Dominium. Andromaca and his son did not escape. They both were killed. The little Hector's baby was thrown down from the walls and broke his brain of the stones. The "SWORD OF TROY" never existed in Homer's poems. it was the "PALLADION" the sacred Symbol of Troy, a statue of wood and gold of Athena, and it was the Palladion the symbol that Enea brought to italy and became the sybol of Rome..... and there will be thousands of stupid things like this in the movie. I hate when Hollywood takes history or legends ( especially when these stories do not belong to the anglosaxon culture) and change everything to get it siuted to a large , idiot pubblic of lobotomized (sp?!) people.

Hi, In Homer Paris is carried from the fight to his bedroom and then Helen goes there to and they are making whoopie while Menelaus is stomping around outraged of being robbed of his revenege.

Before the fight Alexandrus is afraid to fight but Hector rebukes him and Paris admits Hector is right and does go to fight. It is interference of the gods not Paris being a coward.
Helen is glad because Paris is the father of several children and Menelaus is a SPARTAN and we know how they treated their women.

I think it's extremely unlikely that any game of this type will ever have a huge following. I can't speak for other countries, but the average American long ago lost the ability to think and has no desire to do so. How else can you explain the popularity of the NBA? [:D] Beyond that, a 30-second commercial exceeds the average viewer's attention span by at least a good 20 seconds. So, we'll probably need to be thankful for what we get unless we want to do it ourselves.

(Personally, I'd like to see a game with the complexity of WitP but covering the entire globe, so the US actually has to take into consideration the split of resources between the two major theatres of the war.)

I'm inclined to agree with you, but that's from memory. There is a good chance that the quote is from Euripides instead of Homer. If I remember right, Euripides grizzled poor Helen (in "The Women of Troy"? "The Trojan Women"? something like that)

Actually, if you completely gut the AI and accept that it was PBEM ONLY, such a game would be possible, but I would think that it really require team play instead of just PBEM ... part of the realities of warfare on such a scale is that you don't always get what you want and someone above you (team captain?) needs to deal with the realities of committing forces to each theater and ally (team members). Figure on about 4-6 players per team, Internet voice phone type programs are freely available now so communications are greatly simplified. I bet you'd have to find new captains quite often though [:D]

...which is a good movie for its very low budget. i wonder how it comes that with millions and millions of dollars they cannot hire a good history consultant not to make stupid mistakes. The worst thing is that they probably know they're manipulating history and that the ignorant people around the world will drink their bull****s as if they were reality.
