RE: Moses vs WITP_Dude--China AAR
March 28: Its a race to Chungking as the Chinese forces are withdrawing to Chungking and Kweiyang. Only 180 miles to go. My troops are fully supplied and moving at a good clip although it was interesting that my tropps moved half as slow when enemy units occupied their destination hex. Once they moved out my troops immediately sped up. I did not know that enemy units affected the movement rate.
I have no way of knowing how desparate the Chinese situation is. It all depends on what kind of supply stockpile they have mannaged to save. But unless my math is wrong they must be burning off their reserves. Although who knows their could be some unknown game feature which is giving them more supply than I suspect. The passivity of the Chinese ground forces over the past month would indicate that they are in some difficulty. Or playing possum.

13 x Ki-21 Sally bombing at 6000 feet
3 x Ki-21 Sally bombing at 6000 feet
5 x Ki-21 Sally bombing at 6000 feet
A nice day for the I-16c's as they kill 8 zero's and 5 Sallies. The pilots might disagree as 18 I-16 and 2 I-15's go down but this was their best effort in terms of dropping zero's. Kumming is reduced to 111 resourse pts.
Elsewhere my forces continue to advance toward Chungking.

Looks like Kunming is finished. There aren't enough Chinese aircraft being created to keep up in a war of attrition.

6 April: We have completed 4 months. China has 1767 Army loss pts vs 56 for Japan. China has lost 376 aircraft including 65 p-40's against 245 Jap aircraft including 33 zero's.
China is reduced to 3 production locations and Kumming has been reduced to about 1/3rd of its initial capacity. My main force is massed in good condition about 100 miles from Chungking.

12 April:
My main force has arrived in the mountain hex adjacent to Chungking. WITP_Dude has evacuated Sien and Ichang as I suspect they were only draining suppplies. His defence now is at Kwieyang where he has about 40-45 units and Chungking where I see around 50 with everything else headed that way.
Dude has abandoned the air defence of Kumming and I have bombed it down to 109 resourses.

The Chinese only have a handful of planes left.

Yeah right!! My Sallies just got creamed when they went in unescorted. The biggest allied air victory of the war.
RE: Moses vs WITP_Dude--China AAR
I'm down to only two Chinese fighter groups. The rest having been disbanded due to lack of planes. I still have the AVG though.

Yes my Sallies noticed!!
RE: Moses vs WITP_Dude--China AAR
Some Japanese have reached Chungking. The battle should begin soon.
Also, I have a proposal to make if the game goes much longer. It seems the Chinese should get some additional air units sent to them if they can survive into the summer. By then the Commonwealth will have a lot more upgraded planes and they can afford to send some fighters. I've also heard that other players have been able to put B-17s in China. Once the DEI fall there really isn't much need for them elsewhere so I don't think this is too unrealistic.
The Japanese can counter this somewhat by sending another group of Zeros or something. Several Zero groups appear during 1942 and I think another could be sent to China without too much trouble.

RE: Moses vs WITP_Dude--China AAR
You can send some more planes if you want. I would think more fighters would be sent at some point as China's cities get seriously bombed. B-17's are OK also but I think they will be ineffective. I'm having no supply problems and I think I will suspend all supply shippments just to see if I ever run down on supplies. I have stuck to 49,000 supplies per month and have shiped 5 loads or 245,000 supplies to China since game began. Most is still standing at the docks and my units are fully supplied.

RE: Moses vs WITP_Dude--China AAR
The battle for Chungking should quickly use up a lot of supplies. There are lots of Chinese units there and more on the way. I will add one B-17 group and one British fighter group in May. You can add another Zero group and bomber group too.
Also, it is April, not March.

RE: Moses vs WITP_Dude--China AAR
Opps lost a month there somehow. I edited all the posts to say April.
Yes with Chungking no longer producing and all those units in Chungking drawing combat supplies you should be burning off your stockpile at a rapid rate. I don't know that you will be able to make much use of any added aircraft. They need supply to fly.

The bombardments are pretty much pointless in the urban terrain but at least they cause the enemy to draw combat supply. Neither player has any real hope of driving the other out anytime soon but by being here I have stopped all production in Chungking and I have half of his army engaged in combat.
By my estimate he now has a total production of about 400 supply per turn. There is just no way that his army can survive on this so it has to be just a matter of time before his army dies.

It will take some time for the army to die of starvation by itself. I had Zeta encircled for several months before winning.

I hope you record you're supply state a various points so that at the end you can tell all. I'm interested in how fast the Chinese use supply. I think I know how it works but who knows what hidden feature might exist to throw off my calculations.

RE: Moses vs WITP_Dude--China AAR
No, that would spoil all the fun.
It's hard to calculate daily supply production because who knows how much supply arrives via air transport in a given turn. Also I don't know how low supply effects units. What if a unit has 50% of their required supply level? Do they still fight the same?
Anyway the supply at Chungking has increased over recent weeks but that is probably because I abandoned Ichang and Sian. The supply that was going there now goes to Chungking.

4 May 42:
WITP_Dude counterattack is in full swing. He actually retreated my brigade in the wood sw of Chungking has a unit in the muntain hex e of Chungking. More ominus are the forces from Kwieyang which are moving south and east in force. I dont know where their supply is coming from as I have cut the road above Kweiyang but they are moving forward nontheless.
I don't know if this is China's last gasp or the start of a stunning reversal. This is the first time in months that China has appeared strong and I am somewhat worried. They must be using up their supply as I've bombed them to near 300 resourse center in the whole country. I just don't know what his reserve stockpile is.
Meanwhile Chungking is at fort level 7 and I'm wearing it down slowly.
