Japanese casualties at Wake Island

[font="Times New Roman"]Naval authorities said yesterday that Japanese casualties resulting from the action around Wake Island by two USN aircraft carriers have been severe.

"Our intelligence tells us now that at least ten Japanese ships were lost in the attacks carried out by our carriers over the two days," said the liaison officer. "At the moment we can account for five enemy destroyers, including Mutsuki, Kisaragi, Mochizuki, Yunagi and Asanagi, two troop transports, Shintoku Maru and Rakuyo Maru, plus the Busan Maru, a freighter, and a couple of minelayers." [/font]

Another Jap freighter sunk from Wake Island

Dutch military authorities at Samarinda, Borneo reported that the Japanese light cruiser Kashii was hit by a bomb at the port of Jesselton on the north coast. No further details were available.[/font]

Japanese crusier bombed

British authorities said that bombers from Kuantan in Malaya caught a Japanese task force of warships in the Gulf of Siam yesterday. "We believe we hit the light cruiser Sendai and caused it some damage," said a spokesman.[/font]

Hong Kong falls

The British Crown Colony of Hong Kong was stormed by Japanese troops yesterday. After a gallant defense which lasted a week and a half and cost many lives, the island's defenders were overcome by a much superior enemy force.[/font]
