Question regarding 4.6 - definition of Unit size

Post by e_barkmann »

Hi,

must say I am really enjoying this game, reminds me strongly of the tabletop ancient battles we had all those years ago when I was at school :-)

Anyway, the manual says that for each stand a unit has it gets a chance to damage its opponent, the number of times are dependent on the unit size.

I can't see any reference to what Legion, Small, Medium and Large unit size refers to in the game.

Cheers chris

Chris,

Glad to hear that you are enjoying Julius Caesar, I agree that it really brings miniature gaming to the computer better than anything I've seen before. It's referring to the size of the base of each figure, so infantry is generally Small (or Legion), Cavalry is Medium and things like Siege Artillery are Large.

Chris,

Sorry for any confusion. Basically, to make offense balance, units will get approximately the same number of die rolls (except for legions.) So, a single standed unit (e.g., catapult) will get 4 die rolls for each stand. A two standed unit (e.g., cav.) will get 2 die rolls for each stand. (So, when 1 is dead, he will get 2 die rolls.) A four stand unit (e.g., normal infantry) get 1 die roll for each stand. (So, when 1 is dead, he will get 3 die rolls.) Legions get 1 die roll per stand, so they get the potential of 6 die rolls -- making them quite lethal. (When 1 is legion stand is dead, he will get 5 die rolls.)

Hope that clears it up...
