Could you post a point of the score and losses in 30th Nov ? Interested to see this. It's rather rare to see a PBEM reach the New Year 1944

T-storms does not prevent 3 night raids against Woodlark.
12 Japanese ac are op losses, 11 Allied planes destroyed on the ground.
As the Allied deliberate attacks on the island ceases, the Japanese ones start.

For how long can the allied hold on without supplies?

Attached a picture of losses and scores.
Mike has cut in my lead by 1000-1500 points, but Japan is still 3650 points ahead.
Don't think the Bunker Hill is counted into that score though, and that's another 370.

Heavy night raids against Woodlark Isl while US heavy bombers hit
Shortland. Lots of ships hit, but it it's not as devastating as it could have been since most of the
ships that are anchored there have already received heavy damage.
With system damage close to 99, I prefer to keep them in port instead of sailing them
unescorted back to Truk.

The KB continues to patrol the Coral Sea, and not a single Allied ship is spotted [8D]

Not done too many turns lately, the exam periode at uni takes
up a lot of time.

Subs and night bombing - that's the receipt for the last few turns.
My deliberate attacks at Woodlark are getting more efficient as the
allied troops are starving!

Only 8 more days left of my career in Oz - then it's back to the Norwegian
'summer'...now that's an oxymoron [:'(]

Goodbye Oz...

Post by PzB74 »

Last combat report from Oz....I'm leaving the sunshine state and heading back to a northern summer that
is colder than the winter down under [:'(]

I've had a great time and had many good experiences, will undoubtedly be back one day [8D]
Had hoped to wrap this AAR and game up by the end of my time down here, but thing's been a little slow lately so
I'll try to pick up the pieces when I get back home.

Seems like WitP will be out the very same day I leave, well perhaps just as well - sitting on a 20 hour flight with WitP and only 2 hours of battery power left would have driven me bananas anyway! [;)]

Not much happening in the SW Pacific - my nightly blitz against Rossel Isl keeps the garrison awake and the night fighters are really inefficient! I have spotted a few tf's that could be heading towards Woodlark Isl - the garrison there is really hard pressed and could perhaps be forced to surrender if not enough supplies are provided for.

The KB is currently refueling and will try to check mate any such moves together with my remaining surface groups.

The last turns....

Post by PzB74 »

This old game never got finished - still 3 weeks until the game ends on 1/1/44!
Nomad has been kind enough to finish the game that Crocky played for a long while.
We're waiting for a bug fix in WitP, so this is a nice little waiting game.

I've never completed a long campaign in UV and this is most likely my only chance to do so.
Boy was I shocked when I opened the game files after a year:

The Japanese navy, transport fleet and air force are all worn down and have all shot their bolt.
The Allied side is in an even worse state! All major US capital ships have been sunk and an invasion
into Woodlark Island has been stalled by the last Army reserves. Lunga is still on Japanese hands with
a sizeable garrison.

US subs rule the seas and the KB is down to 300 ac and most of the ships are in varying degrees
of repair - but it's the only naval force around...

I'll post a few reports before the game ends! Never liked to leave loosed ends behind [;)]

I am just going to post here for now. Like John said, only 3 weeks to go. The Allies are in really bad shape Naval wise and their LCUs are not in great shape. They do have a lot of aircraft but limited places to put them. Without CV support it is going to be hard to invade anywhere. I will just see what can be done in the last few turns here. I will be trying to bomb the Jap ground troops at woodlard to see if I can capture that base. I am reconning the bases areound Lunga to see if I can start some kind of ground offensive there. Probably not but I will have to try.

Convoy destroyd of Rossel Isll

Post by PzB74 »

We're doing good progress and today Nomad tried to send much needed supplies to Rossel Isl that has been isolated
since the Allied fleet was defeated.

Local CAP was meagre and a combined Val and Betty strike with a heavy escort crippled or sunk most of the ships.
I lost a few fighters and even more to op losses - but now the KB is in position and will be able to prevent further reinforcement convoys from reaching
Rossel or Woodlark.

What about the TF that is NorthWest of you CVs? he-he. You will probably sink it with Bettys, oh well.

Rossel Is has so few supplies that it wont launch any offensive air missions. I had to get some to it. I will get about 1200 supplies from the AKs that were not sunk the first day, that will help some. I'll see if the next TF gets some more in.
And meanwhile operations go forth for the liveration of Guadalcanal. :-)

As the war in the Solomons runs out of time [&:] [:)], I did get 12000 supply to Rossel and another brigade and some supplies to Woodlark island. Also landed a small force on Guadalcanal. My only goal now is to deny PzB a decisive victory. [:D] I really do not think I can do that, but I can try. [:'(]

Game Over...

Post by PzB74 »

The last few turns were rather chaotic!
Without support from surface combat vessels numerous Allied transports and troops were sunk.
Quite a few managed to reach Woodlark Isl and even Lunga.

The remaining Jap air and naval units fought back with heavy casualties. A couple of light carriers were
hit by bombs while the Yamato shrugged of another sub torpedo. It felt a bit uneasy to launch the last remaining
reserves against hordes of Corsairs and Hellcats..

So today the game finally ended with a decisive win for the Japs.
Feels good to finish this game properly [8D]

Thx Ken!

Good!. Japanese found the victory [:D]. PzB, you just have to copy this result on your WitP game.

Could it be possible to know the final losses or some statistics? [;)]

Thanks

The whole game was a bit chaotic, to sat the least. [:)]

Very good job John. A lot of fun and some pain and anguish in this game. [;)][8D]

As far as statistics, the Allies lost by a large margin. There were no combat ships left on the map for the Allies. That does make it a bit hard to attack. [:D]

Thx Toraq, I'll do my best..but I'm also pretty sure that Ken will do his best in order to prevent it as well [;)]

This game unfolded through several phases. In the first one the Japs ran through the South Pacific and captured
PM and defeated the Allied carriers for the first time. This expansion was not stopped until Noumea was successfully
defended in late 42. This was a very close call but ended with the elimination of many Jap troops. Especially the loss of
several base units hurt.

The first 3-4 months of 1943 was a rebuild phase for both sides. I mostly played an offensive defense when Crocky
fought his way towards Guadalcanal. Several vicious attacks and counter attacks saw the enemy take controll of Irau,
but this was such a costly affair that it was autumn 43 before the US finally became strong enough to move on.

The invasion of Woodlark almost succeeded, but a last effort by the KB successfully defeated the Allied carriers.
And thus the game ended a few months later...the Japs are completely worn out and need new ac, pilots and ships
to continue to the fight. The Allies need more carriers and surfaced warships.

Here are some endgame stats!

Japanese naval losses:

1 cv
1 cvl
1 cve
2 bb
7 ca
9 cl
45 dd
11 apd
2 av
13 ss

Allied naval losses:

9 cv
4 cvl
4 cve
3 bb
11 ca
3 claa
6 cl
90 dd
10 apd
2 av
5 dms
3 dm
17 ss

UV is so blue! I had forgotten, despite playing it for many many hours.

Well done for finishing, it must be difficult to pick up after a long absence :)

My only regret is that WitP did not continue with the smaller map scale, it would be awesome.
