I'm most looking forward to seeing no more snipers doing close assaults on tanks! [&o]

This has been fixed. The sniper now does the one job he's supposed to do -- if the tank commander (say, you as the HQ unit) sticks his head out of the turret, then <phhfft--thwap!> he is likely to get a hole between his eyes.

RE: SPWAW version 8.41 Changes
Crews can still close assault presumably? What is the definition of "sniper" - is it the unit class thingy?
Excellent with the spotting adjustment.

The unit class for snipers is 45 -- so, any other units equipped with sniper rifles or in other classes will not be affected.

Thank you for this information.
RE: SPWAW version 8.41 Changes
Well, you just have to accept that tanks sometimes get destroyed from other than Rambo-type infantry. In Steel Panthers 1 manual was said that the low probability of tank crewmembers destroying tank is sort of heroism that happens in war. Tank crewmembers know something about tanks, for tanks are actually just big trucks and everything can break down.
There are various stories of men working with crowbars twisting tank machineguns and such. A good one is also 'human mistake': one infantryman climbed onto tank and knocked on the hatch, and those suckers opened it!

Don't be shocked, I AM funny.

Puukkoo, was it Sgt. (not sure about his rank) Schadewitz (Knight of Mannerheim Cross) who made it with his famous words:"Avvoo iivana, kuolema kolkuttelee" (Open hatch Ivan, here's death knockin'[;)])? And it was true story anyway...
RE: SPWAW version 8.41 Changes
Heard that story in other contexts too, at least once with a US soldier. I'm almost afraid to say it with all these Finns, but it's probably apocryphal.

#5 appears to be one of the most important "tweaks" and MCLV players in particular surely will find it very useful! If at last the CDT can not be fixed....[8|]

Yes, it's that story. And he yelled that in Savo-dialect.
Don't be shocked, I AM funny.

One more thing I would like to see added is a way to know how much damage a large unit such as a DD, Command Tent, or Ammo dump has taken. Maybe they can change color or smoke after 50-60% damage has been taken.

We're talking cosmetic changes, here, so the graphics gurus would have to weigh in. There have been many fantastic changes done by the Depot community. With the available mods, the game now LOOKS great.

With my previous post in mind, I am simply astounded at the dedication Michael Wood has displayed in working in the engine room -- THIS is what really matters, and his love of the game is what drives him. He is a man of few words, but huge accomplishments.
In SPWaW terms, he's this guy:

Joe, Michael "Scotty" Wood just got back into the game, and we are all grateful for his reappearance.
I don't know you, Joe, but you are obviously an old vet, too. Welcome back to the fold. The old lady still has some spunk left, and we're still riding her. [:D]

Sorry, I didn't know Mike was gone, but then again how could I? [:D]
It's good to be back. Over the last few years I've flown flight sims, played the Decisive Battle Series, was a platoon leader for a clan supporting Call of Duty, but when I was looking for some good tactical level combat I had to come home to Steel Panthers- though I must admit I'm fascinated with HTTR and the follow on CotA. Different games for sure, and SPWAW should give me my PBEM fix [:D]

Welcome back Joss!
Mr. Wood has shown that SPWAW will probably become a legacy.
20 years from now I'd bet there will be some old grognard
porting it to work in the new environment!
Right after Nethack 2025 is released! [8D]
Live long and prosper!

James Doohan
Portrays Montgomery "Scotty" Scott
James Doohan was best known to Star Trek fans as Scotty ("Montgomery Scott"), the chief engineer aboard the U.S.S. Enterprise, in the original Star Trek series.
Doohan was born on March 3, 1920, in Vancouver, British Columbia, and spent his early years in there and in Sarnia, Ontario. Surviving the anguish of living with an alcoholic father, he left home at age 19 to join the Canadian Forces, fighting with the Allies in World War II. After outscoring his fellow soldiers on an officer's exam, he became Captain in the Royal Canadian Artillery. While leading his men into battle on D-Day, Doohan was wounded in the leg and hand, and eventually lost a finger. For the remainder of the war, he became a pilot observer, and received the dubious distinction of being called the "craziest pilot in the Canadian Air Forces."
After returning home to Canada, Doohan performed a few scenes for the local radio station, and was awarded a two-year scholarship to the Neighborhood Playhouse in New York City. Beginning in 1946, he trained at the Playhouse with Sanford Meisner, alongside such future stars as Leslie Nielsen, Tony Randall and Jackie Gleason.
In the ensuing eight years, Doohan shuttled between New York and Canada where he worked on 4000 radio programs, 400 live and taped variety and dramatic television shows, several films and plays. Though he became known as Canada's busiest actor, he eventually found himself following other fellow actors in the pilgrimage to Hollywood. There, his versatility and talent as a dialectician helped him earn parts in more than 100 motion pictures and television series, including The Twilight Zone, Outer Limits, Fantasy Island, "Loaded Weapon 1" and "Double Trouble." He has also appeared in the first seven Star Trek motion pictures.
In the years since the final episode of Star Trek, Doohan has pursued a speaking career which has taken him to more than 250 colleges throughout the U.S. and Canada. In addition, he makes appearances at numerous Star Trek conventions.
Doohan lived in Redmond, Washington, with his wife Wende and his sons, Eric and Thomas. In April 2000, James and Wende gave birth to another child, Sarah.
James Doohan passed away on July 20, 2005 at his home. Wende, his wife of 28 years, was at his side.
