It could have been worse indeed, I think all of the japanese DD's launched torpedoes but thankfully all of them missed.

Pauk's agressive move in Burma caught me somewhat by surprise, I had expected him to make his move later.. I guess i got used to Mogamis passiveness when I played against him in that particular theatre.

awakening the sleeping giant...

Post by pauk »

This turn went with no suprises at the DEI, Malaya and Philippines. My units preparing for Clark Field siege. China was guiet, until now.

I planed offensive with goal to capture Ichang in perfect secrecy. At least, i like to think in that way. String agressivly responded and send 11 units on the railroad crossroads north of Kaifeng. I'm sure he planing some more nasty suprises, but we will see...

the big gamble in China started!

RE: awakening the sleeping giant...

Post by pauk »

I know that this is not most exciting AAR here (at least for Japanese fanboys), but if someone accidentaly jumps here, he might find some interesting stuff and learn something new about 1.6.

As i mentioned before, my imperial guard division easily defeated the enemy, i got message enemy retreating to the rangoon (see picture above - classic advance to the Rangoon). IMG was set on pursue the enemy, so i supposed that my unit will go directly (east) to the Rangoon (one hex to the east). Especially when i saw distance travel 15 from 60!.

But, Burma units run away to the N, and IG crossed the river and shocked units NE of the Rangoon[:(]...

At the Singapore several CA and CL's are spoted. They are probably evacuated troops from Singa(ev)apore. Wonder if he also have problems with loading troops with FT?... i have....
Unfortunatly my LBA bombers did not score a single hit....

Finally, he start evacuating air force from Luzon. Their new station is Java, probably.

China is most interesting theatre at the moment.

Image

1. Chinese moved south from Homan. Will they advance further? He have three choices, but only advancing to the Hsinyang and Kafeing make sense. But, most likely they will stay there.

2. Retreat after unsuccessful siege of Nanning. I consider it tactical victory, but strategic defeat.

On china: I've been observing the movements for some time, but for some reason I didn't take any clear cut action until now (don't even know myself why). Personally I hoped that chinese theatre would stay quiet.. but the japs just HAD to push it, didn't they [:D]. Here's for hoping that my opponent won't use Kwantung units in china..

Yesterdays PT boat intercepts were interesting, the first one was planned but the second one was a total fluke, PT boats were in transit for another base when they ran into japanese cruisers.

Of course i will use units from Manchuria, but i will pay PP and assign them to the proper teathre. Not a single unit from KwA will cross the border before changing their HQ.

Sorry folks, but i dont believe my opponent statement about China, it is more kind of propaganda. I'm expecting him in limited offensive in the China theatre. Where? Sorry, can't say it....

Actually, did not plan any action in the China so early. I changed my mind because i have no real opposition in the air (AVG flying over Sigapore skies), and String was provocated me with his approach to the Nanning. I'm not patient player, i admit...

Z force is located southwest of Tarakan and attacked. Another pathetic result, only one torpedo hit and i doubt that sys damage will go higher than 15. At least, he wont be agressive any more knowing that my LBA are on position now....

Chinese corps move to the Kaifeng (sp?). I'm not worried, reinforcements is on their way. My LB bombing enemy units in China theatre.

Finally, have enough land and air units for Borneo operations - Brunei is under the siege. Bad luck again strikes IJ Air force - my Nells can not locate Z force at the Balikpapan.

who said chinese are useless?

Post by pauk »

Game is continued after short break (vacation). I can continue talk to the wall[:)]

DEI/SRA

My light SF TF (5 DD's) sunk one of three enemy PT's at the Menado. Invasion has started, my transports unloading troops there. Invasion of the Brunei started too.

PHILIPPINES

My troops regrouping for upcoming attack on the Clark Field. Don't expect CF will be last line of defence, more likely it will be Manila.

CHINA

When i said "i'm not worried" (about Kaifeng), I was wrong. I should be worried, because 8 chinese corps easily defeat Kaifeng garnison and temporarely conquere it. Chinese LCU (unknown strength) move south of Wuchow. My recons reports several LCU's moving to the Wuchow. Do they plan offensive in south China theatre?

oh,and Rangoon is liberated this turn....

Finally some good news for the Emperor. Bombing mission of the Singapore AF was succesful, AVG did not help... String was suprised, but he can tell more about his elite air group performace.

25th army slowly gathering at the Johore Baru.

My brave I-23 find damaged West Wirginia and put 3 torps in her. I'm bit suprised that my opponent leave WW with pathetic escort. She did not sink but i hope that 3 little presents will be enough... i'm just reminding that no BB sunk at PH!

LBA from Saigon find and attack refugees from Philipines, one AK was sunk. Route of this TF is unusual (Manila to Singapore) so i guess it was "kamikaze" TF, distracting attention from more valuable units.

Brunei is captured.

Well.. what's with pauk being behind one turn and all? .. the idiotic commander of Repulse decided to refuel at Tarakan (where he had been sent in case of a japanese bombardment force coming in) so that he could be at open sea the next day.. no, let's not retire to the relative safety of Balikpapan (where atleast I have CAP)

In addition one of my subs recieved another 9 depth charges today and sank. This ASW effort is most worrying, especially as I have little to show in return.

In other news, operation "Slap the Jap" has been drawn up and is ready to start in a few days. Hirohito, watch out, we're coming to get you!

String was short and brief. I can only add that bombing campaign started in China. My bombers pay attention to his ground units, while his SB-2 bombing my industry in China. And yes, Repulse is pleasent suprise, for a change.

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 12/24/41

This turn was eventful.
In the seas around Phillipine and SRA area , his small PT flotilla suprised my TF and heavily damaged my two precious APDs. Then my ASW scored another hit - SS Perch gets two charges. One of my hunting subs put torpedo in the CL Durban, but i'm afraid it is dude.

Singapore again gets some attention, but this time target was a port where several previously damaged subs licked their wounds. KV XII and KV XVII sunk in Singapore port. Three MSW's also gets hits.

But hey, this was only start. I was completely shocked when saw air attack on Kuching. Since don't play Allies, i wasn't aware that Allies can have so much 4E bombers early in the game. Look at this:

Day Air attack on Kuching , at 28,56

Japanese aircraft
no flights

Allied aircraft
B-17E Fortress x 91

Japanese aircraft losses
A6M2 Zero: 3 destroyed
G3M Nell: 2 destroyed

Allied aircraft losses
B-17E Fortress: 8 damaged

Japanese ground losses:
318 casualties reported
Guns lost 4

Airbase hits 6
Runway hits 33

Aircraft Attacking:
All B-17E Fortress bombing at 6000 feet

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Day Air attack on TF, near Balikpapan at 31,64

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 15
G3M Nell x 18
G4M1 Betty x 8

Allied aircraft
CW-21B Demon x 5
Brewster 339D x 6
P-35A x 3

Japanese aircraft losses
G3M Nell: 2 destroyed, 8 damaged
G4M1 Betty: 8 damaged

Allied aircraft losses
CW-21B Demon: 1 destroyed, 1 damaged
Brewster 339D: 3 destroyed
P-35A: 1 damaged

Allied Ships
CA Exeter
CL Dauntless, Torpedo hits 1, on fire
CA Cornwall
CL Dragon

pretty dissapointed results. My LBA did not find Repulse (i doubt that String scuttled her) and attacked this fleet at Balikpapan

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Day Air attack on TF, near Balikpapan at 31,64

Japanese aircraft
G3M Nell x 13

Allied aircraft
CW-21B Demon x 5
Brewster 339D x 6
P-35A x 3

Japanese aircraft losses
G3M Nell: 2 destroyed, 2 damaged

Allied aircraft losses
CW-21B Demon: 2 damaged
P-35A: 1 damaged

second strike went without escort, but losses are acceptable

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Day Time Surface Combat, near Kuching at 28,56

Japanese Ships
AK Seitai Maru, Shell hits 2
AK Taiko Maru #3, Shell hits 6, Torpedo hits 2, on fire

Allied Ships
PT TM-8
PT TM-9
PT TM-10
PT TM-11

Japanese ground losses:
51 casualties reported
Guns lost 5

did I tell that PTs are very annoying?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ground combat at 40,39

Japanese Deliberate attack

Attacking force 19203 troops, 244 guns, 6 vehicles

Defending force 2640 troops, 0 guns, 0 vehicles

Japanese assault odds: 74 to 1

Allied ground losses:
3837 casualties reported

HQ finally realizes that they are is not a combat unit. I wonder if someone know does lider from destroyed HQ "resurrect" when HQ is formed again?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ground combat at Changsha

Allied Shock attack

Attacking force 119791 troops, 897 guns, 0 vehicles

Defending force 137928 troops, 1791 guns, 21 vehicles

Allied assault odds: 1 to 1

Japanese ground losses:
799 casualties reported
Guns lost 27

Allied ground losses:
11402 casualties reported
Guns lost 238

String tried to throw out my units from the Changsha. So far, i have to give a credit to String, he is really "evil" in the China. But i know few nasty tricks too. First i sent few brigades and set that my main force came one turn latter. Unfortunatly, can't expect that i will sell him this trick again.

I expect very soon Chinese units at the Canton. Ichang remains blocked. Shunting(?) at Kaifeng continues. Shortly, China is completely mess[:D]

Actually, I saw those units coming and I expected that my units could handle them.. As one can see it was close but not close enough. No worries though, I've got enough fort levels to survive

China again.

Post by pauk »

The only actions worth to be mentioned are heavy fights in China. Rest theatres are pretty quiet for now, except few air missions in the Malaya/SRA...

Usual bombings continuing in the China. Chinese bombers take their opportunity and bombs my industry there (my fighters have "clear the sky upon China" mission), while my bombers trying to help troops at Canton and just north of Kaifeng.

Three annoying PT boats intercept my BB fleet and put torpedo in DD Kawakaze. In return, only all three PT sunk.

Singapore port bombed froma air again. This time AVG performed better. My LBA hits enemy AK at the Palenmbang (sunk) and AP transporting (probably) BF to India. One of my sub suprisingly attacked and sunk MSW in the Pacific, rather then DMS. Can you guys remind me to depose this extravagant sub commander??

String transfered his torpedo planes to the Sinkawang(?-sp) Vildebeests attacked and scored some hits on my transport fleet near Kuching.

China was quiet, but i can assure, this will change soon - Chinese are in Canton hex!
