I find it interesting that three arty units and a base force at Canton defended against such an assault, gotta write it down to fortification levels. But where is the real garrison.. those 9 units just east of the town? Reinforcements?

Had been busy yesterday (watching miserly performance of the Croatian soccer teams in UEFA cup - preliminary round[8|]) so haven't got time to write even a few sentences.

Hey, Andy, i suppose you play Allies[;)]? Well, i have to say that String is very aggresive and tough player with good understanding ground movement rules and ZOC. Since i haven't got any experience in the defensive play in the China theatre and plus i did not played Allied side yet he spanks me there. [:D] Anyway, i never played more interesting and fun game before[:)]

Andy, you are the first person here with comments, so remind me to buy you a beer if i ever come in the Scotland! Or if you visit Croatia first...

And for String: i doubt that you have some doubts about units east of Canton, but let's see first what happens in just downloaded turn .....

Aye I am allies in my Game with String and he is beating me up all over the place (admittedly it was a May starting date and my predecessor loost 4 CV's before I took over ....I have subsequently lost a lot more all my own doing) !!!! watch out for concentration and overwhelming force String doesnt seem to like dispersed efforts if he comes at you he will throw the kitchen sink into the battle [:D][:D][:D]

Thanks Andy, i learned also (in a hard way) about concentration troops[:D]. I knew there is somewhere 3x3AAR of (dead now) game with String involved, but i did not want to take look into it. I feel it would be a little unfair. As for Glasgow, i'm supporter of Celtic but also have simpaty for Rangers now (did Dado Prso scored again?)

now, back to the game.

BC Repulse finally ends his voyage – another brave sub find her near Soerbaya (hey, don’t trust Indonesians, they confiscated Croatian cargo ship two days ago) and send her to the bottom. Three enemy PTs attacked transport fleet at Lingayen, but my escorts (PG and PC) did not react?!. At least there is no serious damage for my TF. Another naval fight during day phase between transport fleet escort near Sinkawang (?) resulted with two PT’s sunk.

Tonight my BB task force start bombardment of the Tarakan preparing place for upcoming operation.

BC Repulse will be sorely missed. The capture of Canton however is very good news, I never actually hoped to capture it, urban terrain and forts and all.. if pauk hadn't evacuated it then even a single combat unit could have held it imo.

Nothing much to report. Catalina from Rabaul located KB east of Rabaul. I was hoped String will try again offensive action with SF TF or even with his carriers and KB will ambush him.

Honkong taken by the chinese!

Post by String »

What pauk comfortably fails to mention is the liberation of HongKong by chinese units! A great victory indeed! Also a dutch sub torpedoed and sank an AP near Jolo.

Meanwhile a bit south of there a large invasion convoy is creeping up to Tarakan, under cover of heavy surface assets and light carriers, there is little i can do about it.

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 12/31/41

Invasion of the Rabaul starts, T TF unloading troops, while BB TF protects convoy. String continues to "search" my Sallys and Nells/Bettys with his B-17's. My light cap (9 Zero) claimed 4 Dutch fighters and one B-17 at cost just one Zero.

Vildebeests put torpedo in my AP near Kuching, and SS Swordfish is hit by type91 depth charge (after three unsucessful ASW attack).

In the China theatre, Changsha besige continues, bombard attacks causes + - 500 casaulties every turn. And, that is all, for now.

Finally the game reaches january, which means a notch down from the zero bonus. Every little bit helps. Seems like my plan at Rabaul worked too.. the small interception by cruisers delayed pauk for over a week I guess + tied down the KB from valuable work.

String done good job at the Rabaul, indeed. After previous naval combat at the Rabaul, where i had numerical advantage and R. Tanaka in comanding position but catched suprised, have to secure invasion.

My troops finally start invading Tarakan and this act caused String's reaction from Balikpapan (as i expected). But this wasn't only air action this day. B-17s switched to the Kuching - he don't want strong air base from where my Nells/Betty can put in danger his fleet at Balikpapan (two strong TF are at Balikpapan). But, i wasn't sleeping too.
After regrouping of my air forces, send strong air attack from Singapore airfield. Although AF is not closed, String will must withdraw heavies from there, or will be destroyed.

Fierce A2A combats resulted with 80 allied and 40 japanese plans destroyed. Most of my casaulties were Sallys destroyed on the ground + 12 Oscars lost in LRCAP mission over Tarakan invasion fleet. Oscars braverly fighted against duch counterparts, but also reported several P-40s shoted down.

I must say that I'm quite dissapointed with the preformance of my airforce..

Otherwise, I just noticed that you had only 8700 AP's in Kwantung area.. isn't there more like 10-11k units there at game start?

since you play Japanese side also, you might be aware that i can set no reinforcements to those units, so assault value will not significantly raise. Also, it is cold area, and lots of divisions start with disabled squads doesn't recuperate like others in temperate zone.

i will use Kwantung divisions if i change their HQ first(pay political points for them) [:)]

I'm not sure if KWA starts over 9000, not in my games. Maybe if you count Mongolians which are not assigned to the KWA.

Oh, Amiral was right. I just looked at the KWA and it is really little above 9000 AP. I guess i wasn't look numbers recently, but i recall that in previous patches this value fluctuaded (?) + - 8000 regardless not moving any unit form KWA

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 01/02/42

What a turn! String again managed to intercept my naval fleets near Tarakan, but i was expecing this. Two surface TF's and one ASW forces engaged his light TF so final outcome did not offer many suprises.

Yes, IJN can not claim total victory, one DD will problaly sink, and Ise gets one torpedo. I'm wandering myself if game code include "Ise will be hit with torpedo anyway" rule, because in all my games this unfortunate ship gets serious hit (in one of them she sunk after just one torpedo from the Swordfish!). Fuso was reported hit, but there wasn't real devil in torpedo, i assure you. Dutch fleet fought braverly but all ships are on the bottom now. The time will tell if this sacrifice was justified.

I hit escape botom right after i saw message "japanese fleet is suprised". Obviously, Kitakami's radar are near to useless. Did not noticed advantage of 40 torpedos too. However, despite suprise achived by the enemy, final outcome is certantly pleasing...

damnit, I expected your BB's to be covering the invasion convoy, not the ships out at sea.. :S

Anyway, the loss of 4 light cruisers + DD's (especially electra with its's 80+ night exp) definetly isn't worth the sinking of one DD and the damaging of one BB, which was probably light damage anyway.

damn.. well, one pays for ones foolish acts I guess.
