AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 01/03/42

GROUND ACTION

Last turn went without lot of action, but Japan secured two important bases - Amboina and Tarakan liberated!

As i expected Clark field is anbandoned and, Allies last stand will be Manila. The gamble with preparation points pays off - mayority of my troops were ordered to prepare for Manila before CF fell. The reason why i waited so long to enter in CF hex is stupid movement mistake. Oh, well...

Image

My "panzers" easily walked into Clark Field

Rabaul is about to fall. Deliberate attack lowered fort level (1) and shock attack is ordered for tommorow. China - usual artilery duels.

NAVAL ACTION

I-155 hit TK Augustina with one torpedo SE of the Java. AP get torpedo from Swordfish and sunk near Kuching.

Rabaul did not fall this turn, i get only 1-1 but my eng destroyed last fort. Tomorow we will add one more base to the great Empire. String gathering chinese units at the railroad crossroad near Kafeing, wondering myself if he planing another diversion there?

Johore B. is now main base for my Betty/Nells. They hit surface TF at Singakawang but i can not be pleased with overall perfomance. The good thing is my Zeros again achived clear victory in the air. Dutch airforce hit Tarakan oilfields from Balikpapan, and leave sky over base empty. Chutai from damaged Kuching /previous B-17s raids/ take their chance and sink MSW Finch.

Lots of action in DEI. String again send his air force to the Tarakan oil fields, and again the sky over Balikpapan was empty. But, now i have another AF 4 (Amboina) and my Bettys suprised his fleet at Balikpapan, Unfortunatly didn't bring Air HQ in Amboina yet and String avoided catastrophe there. But, i'm sure he realize that Balikpapan is very dangerous place for him and expect withdrawl of his fleet tonight. In addition, his gamble with BB Revenge did not pay off. LBA's found him. Sure, i expect visit with B-17s, but he can not shot down all AF's in theatre.

Rabaul joined great Empire today.

CHINA:

Again, several unpleasant outcomes. Yenen is holding,my forces just NE of Kaifeng are defeated again.

Damn... that was a very dumb mistake on my part (balikpapan). I thought that I'd leave the ships there as I had cap, and then I assigned every fighter to Escort..

bah, what a newbie mistake to make.

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 01/06/42

Not much to report. Naval bombardment of Singkawang, few allied ac destroyed on the ground. My SS I-165 missed CL Mauritius, but managed to escape escort.

Last few turns String training his bombers attacking my Imperial Guard in Burma, but real harrasment comes from Hong Kong. He moved there Ils and some Beaufort and bombed my APs in the area which i left without aircover. Fortunatly, damage was light.

Somehow I forgot to order my units to attack Changsha, only Eng regiment attacked - stupid me.

Shortly, all theatres are quiet at the moment. I have to rest my LBA and raise their morale, regroup my forces while String is busy with moving at new defense line (Java), I guess.

What can I say, it's nice to see a plan work [:D] I wouldn't call the damage very light either, several ships were hit by bombs and two torpedoed.Though none are in sinking condition probably

This turn was quite peaceful too. String moved some ac to Kendari and attacked my TF at Amboina. There were no hits on my ships, but few enemy ac are shot down without any losses on my side.

Actually, only action worth to be mentioned is sinking of antoher allied sub. That's is 12th enemy sub on the bottom. Where is the Ron now?[;)]

It is nice to see that Saburo is still alive. In UV he usually died in first days of the war. Lot's of Oscar pilots in my aces list is result of fightings in the China, but some of aces achived their status in the DEI.

I would appreciate if someone can give me insight about allied ac rate, especially P-40B (conditon of AVG?), Warhawks and B-17. I know that rates are low in the december, but IIRC these rates are increasing by the time, right?

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 01/09/42

String's air force deserved a nickname - grasshoppers. Last turn they flew from Cayagan. I must admit i was quite suprised because i thought not enough supplies left in the base. But i was lucky - Swordfish and T.IVa perfmed poorly. Counter-measure taken. CL Nagara is heavily damaged, but i think she will be ok. Another "kamikaze" TF (Ak+MSW) spoted moving towards Singapore, only MSW gets torpedo (sunk).

After last attack on Yenen i think i'll be forced to give up and accept stalemate in the China.

First unit came in Singapore hex waiting the others to join. I'm already pretty scared what will happend when bulk of my forces came in Singapore hex (notorious river assault value)...

The opportunity at Tawi Tawi was such a nice one, but sadly no hits [:(] But hopefully this has taught a valuable lesson to pauk about leaving bases in his rear [;)] His search planes also suck, unable to notice supply ships moving around right under their noses [:D]

The situation in china is most pleasing though. The japs haven't conquered any cities, indeed they have lost two very important ones instead.

Patience my friend, patience [;)]
Never shock attack anything that got 7 forts and is stronger than you. Bombard the enemy
for 2-3 days and hit him with ac. Then you deliberate attack. Repeat this process for as long as it takes.

One deliberate attack will rebuild disruption to their 70-80's. I try to avoid attacking before it's down to ca 25 again.

thanks PzB, I forgot to mention that i was forced to shock attack - my units invading singapore (notorious river assault rule). Of course that i never do such a thing, but at least expected that fort level will going down with 3 full divisions, three brigades, support and 3 eng regiments...

Same situation in the China... (well there were 2 eng regiments).... and yes, my units are always rested as much as possible.
