Kwajalein raid!

Post by pauk »

American CV's shows just two hexes off Kwajelein and strike. He caught me by suprise, although i had lots of search planes in the area with big range....Several transports are hit, CL Katori also suffered heavy damage, one DD is sunk, but my small elite airforce braverly fought against American imperialists. T. Shiouzura shot down 5 enemy planes, his comrades fought braverly as well and shot down 21 fighters and 5 dive bombers. The total enemy loss is 38 planes! But what is more important - Enterprize is hit with one torpedo!

Nell crew report succesfuly accomplished mission.

However, the situation is very serious, i have to admit. Except the CV's TF there is at least two surface TF's. Let's hope that this is only raid, not a invasion.

RE: Kwajalein raid!

Post by String »

While the torpedo hit was annoying it didn't do much (luckily).

I have to say that the results of said raid were somewhat under my expectations, partly because of the inability of my AC TF's to move 5 hexes during both phases [:@]

Oh well, we learn something every day.

What was frustrating though was the fact that the rather large cap over Soerabaja didn't manage to shoot down the unescorted betties.. most agitating.[:@]

String obviously did not want risk his carriers so he withdrew them east of Marshalls. I'm on alert, it could be a trick but if he tries again i will be ready. SS Shark is history, same as my I-6 sunk by american ships east of Marshalls.

String stop sending his subs in offensive missions, he uses them in more standard missions - evacuating cadres from Manila and north of Kendari (PAF aviation regiment). And the last, a small, but enjoying victory over Singapore sky where my Zeros inctercepted his Catalina (probably he evacuating units from Singapore) and shot down four ac.

We have good and the bad news for today. Let's start with a bad one. Not that i don't believe my esteemed opponent about "the inability of my AC TF's to move 5 hexes during both phases", but i simply had to try this. My surface TF was ordered to visit Balikpapan (5 hex), but traveled only 4 hexes during night phase (TF was refueled turn before, no ops points, screen showed 5/5 mov. rate...). As result, i lost (very likely) 2 DD and CL...

now, the good news. New air attack on Singapore destroyed rest of damaged B-17 and Liberators (IIRC 10 B-17s and 7 Liberators), and my LR CAP caught another 4 transport in the SIngapore sky. So far, String lost more than 70 B-17s, and that is certainly not a bad result. Oh, yes, fort level at Singapore finally coming down!

It's fun to look at the guesses my opponent has made, I won't tell if they are correct or not, but in a certain way they are very amusing [:D]

Regardless, the torpedoing of a CL makes it a good day. I had hoped that Singapore would resist a bit longer though [:(]

it is nice to see that at least someone have fun. I have no nerves to give orders because i watched Euro basketball Championship, a quater-final match Spain vs. Croatia. We lost in overtime, but what makes me angry is that best "Spanish" players were gentelmen Lamonica (Italy), Dovidavicius (Lithuania) and certain Drabikovsky from Ukraine. Of course, i'm talking about referees. It was a really sad to watch and i dare to say it was almost "referees theatre" like match between Yugoslavia and Lithuania back in 90's....[:@]

but, who gives a **** for basketball? Well, i have to take short break....

Not a bad turn. Sunk several transports, BB TF successfully bombards Palembang. Although i can be satisfied with enemy casaulties (over 2000) i'm pretty concerned. It seems that he masses (ENG) units in P. Which is not good - i need these oil fields!

Most pleasing victory for today is air combat over Tarakan sky. I put strong CAP and over 40 Zeros protect damaged CL. AVG escorted bombers (they all missed[:'(]) and they pay price - seven american "tigres" shoted down (of 17!). This turn String lose 20 pilots in A2A, while i lost 5.

When i recieve turn i will look into losses and try to calculate how many pilots (veterans) left in AVG. But, with rate of 10 tomahawks per month he is already in trouble (so far 130 T-hawks destroyed).

I checked a B-17 rate also... 40 per month - i've destroyed 79 fortress in less than two months and he certainly can not afford more losses.

Glen from sub reported TF (CA, BB) just next to Great Barrier Reef. Are they damaged ships traveling to safe repair ports in Australia?

January 27th didn't most exciting turn in the game so i decide to skip it and go to next day. String moving his air force from turn to turn and attack different targets. Obviously he want to stretch IJAF...

Also, he training ac units attacking the empty base south of Mandalay, but this time he found some Zeros on LRCAP. I lost several ac in air to air combat, but these were green pilots added just to bring daitai at full strengh. All in all not a bad result.

Finally i can report action in China too. Deliberate attack on Yenen failed, but fort level coming down. My two divisions defeated single chinese corp south of Changsha. This chinese LCU has orders to guard important strategic position.

New assault on the Singapore gave me 1-1 odds, so Sing wont be long in allied hands. Last two days i ordered my Zero to clear Balikpapan waters.

There is little for me to say. Apparently there's a lot of behind the scenes maneuvering going on on the japanese side aswell. Seems like his gathering forces for his next wave of invasions.

japanese propaganda: Zero still rule the sky!

Post by pauk »

String was right, again. I'm gathering forces for next invasion. He immediately react but he certainly did not expect that fortune will (finally!) japanese side[:D] There was lots of air encounters this turn. From where to start?

As i mentioned before, String trains his ac crew ower Taung Gyi, last time only one (of two assigned) daitai's was on LR CAP. String did not take this early warning...
ORIGINAL: String

Well my mohawk pilots aren't so green anymore either.

...and he pay the price. Well, those mohawk pilots certainly aren't green anymore. They are dead [:D].

2/3 of the for escort was shot down (20 of 33 Mohawks) and 12 ac that were on combat training missions. I lose 5 zeros.

But the main fight happend over Tarakan skies. He transfered whole AVG and torpedo bombers to the BAlikpapan and finds my SF fleets with light CAP of 9 Zeros. But, everything go bad from begining: dozen swordfish were unable to locate target and after that B-17 shows. My zero pilots shot down 2 fortress and damaged eight.

Then arrived Beuforts escorted with AVG. But my heroic nine samurais fought extremly well, and at the end of the day, four of them survived. Some Beuforts attacked my ships, but they all missed.

Meanwhile i launched air attack from Kuching. Soerbaya was defended with dutch air force and one of my pilots gets 9th confirmed kill.

But most pleasing news coming from Malaya. Singapore falls and 24 Catalinas destroyed on the ground. I guess he used them for evacuating units and left them in Singapore hoping that his guys will hold on one more attack. The day ends with 136 destroyed enemy planes (77 A2A, 49 destroyed on the field...). I lost 27 ac (16 Zeros; 12 in A2A combat).

Another air raid on Soerbaya

Post by pauk »

String had some success with air missions today. This was, of course my mistake because i forgot move ALL TFs from torpedo range. But i can be satisfied too.

Japanese propaganda informs Emperor about successful air raid on Soerbaya. As long as AVG is located in Balikpapan i can afford myself devastating air raids on main Dutch stronghold. The only thing i would like is more Zeros and LBA (which i have to transfer on the, well, i can not disclose where)....

IJAF reported that 50 enemy planes destroyed today (26 in A2A combat, while Japan lost 5 planes). Our losses are acceptable - 13 planes.

RE: Another air raid on Soerbaya

Post by pauk »

Bad weather prevent another raid from Kuching. It would be really interesting to see what will happend because String moved Tomahawks into Soerbaya and i had more than 70 Zero's on the CAP. Other than that no big news, we are both playing a cat and the mouse game.

Ther was no real action so i skip last few days. I'm planing invasions for rest of DEI, but can't disclose here details. All i can say is that Tarakan (one of meeting point for future operations) are now secured. If String tries again with air attack he will be welcomed, but dont think he would risk another attack. My paras took some bases (Sinkep and base north of Palembang?) and put some naval search.

Preventive air strike on Palembang AF is success. Although my esteemed opponent was aware of danger he moved some ac (hated Swordfishs and Beauforts) into Pal. hoping that he will caught my bombardment TF (which was, btw, located 5 hexes away - learned my lesson). My air strike destroyed 17 planes on the ground.

ASW elite flotila sank another sub, but not in the way i liked.

Finally, it becomes warm in the China, Changsha is almost surounded but String moving his forces towards Changsha, or better to say, one hex east of Changsha. Obviously, don't like idea about surrounding Chinese at Changsha. Phew!

Oh, yes... his B17 fly from day to day, their target is now Kuching. Wonder if those pilots ever became fatigued. Two fortress lost due operational loses. So far, he lost 101 B17. Good.

Isn't this an Allied minelaying sub? If so, I'd take the trade...
