AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 08/02/42
Th Tojos production has begun.17 planes already in pool. In one week i should be able to equip the first Sentai at Shangai.
We've moved closer to Chungking. 30 Sallies will start a bombing campaign tomorrow from 3 hexes ( should reduce a lot the op losses.) 50 Tonies are covering the base ( Kweiyang) and soon more 100 fighters and 100 bombers will be place here to reduce Chungking to a mass of dust.
Shokaku, upgraded and fully operational, left Tokyo bay today. It will join the 3CVs at Manila.
Nothing really new to report today.
In Oz he's retiring towards Alice Spring.
In Burma he retired completely after the failed assault of the past month.
my attention is now focalized on Port Blair, where he can come. As soon as he starts bombing the island my CVs will move towards Singapore.
Subs with glens are patrolling the Bengal Bay and the NW coast of Australia.
2 more days and we'll attack Nanning.

Forgot to say something....
In preparation of the ASW campaign that will start in few months my float planes air army is being reunited at Manila. 100 Alfs/Jakes will start tomorrow an intense training camp( bombing San Jose Island) to be ready ( at 90 exp) to face the future allied sub threat.
Unluckly i do not have any Ida in the pool and the industry has been shot down and changed the production chain since december 41. So i will have to rely on my float planes and on my Sallies/Lilies/Anns for ASW activities in the SRA and DEI.

because i do not know where his CVs are. At the moment my plans are to play an elastic defence, using my KB as a strategic defence. Too risky and too fuel waisting.

The KB is in perfect shape. The exp of my pilots is around 80 and even the newest CV/CVLs have now air groups with very skilled crews!
One good news and one bad news in these 2 days.
The Nanning pocket finally passed by and 30k more chinese are now marching towards the POW camps.
Tsuyung refuses to capitulate. 0-1 obtained today. The price to be paid for my impatiente![:@]Now more units are on their way. I have to bring the assault force back to 2500 APs ( now at 1600).

Bad weather all over china prevented any big air raid
2 smal TFs spotted going from Christmas Island to Bora Bora.

A strange thing happened in Borneo. One of his empty airfield, abbandoned and never conquered by my forces, showed up the presence of planes......???? a new way to transport his squadrons from oz to Burma????

2 hexes on the western hedge of the map for safe transports going from/to India.
I do not know...my first thought was: the edges are for both of us...so why if a Cargo TF is spotted by a sub near madagascar the KB could not be ordered to raid it? Well...i know in RL Tokyo would never have done such a thing, but...they could have

If he can send thousands of men from Oz to India and overwhelm me with the US divisions why can my divs simply march from Hanoi to Bankok?...

I've heard a lot about how unfair it is to sink ships at the maps edge... Personally I find it to be BS! [8|]
Everyone know the map edge is there and if you send ships along it you shouldn't run crying to mama if someone
catches you with your pants down.
If the Allied player doesn't know were the KB is he shouldn't send large convoys along the map edges.
If he does he runs a calculated risk and should consider providing a strong covering force.
A limitation of the war in China is a personal house rule from me. Even if I can capture all of China I don't.
This gives the Allied player fewer grey haires and ties up the Jap divisions that belong in China for the duration of the war.
(Give or take a few that is

Today we bombed Pontiak in Borneo...with no results:-( He's using this base for transporting planes ( from the huge range they must be Catalinas or 4Es) from Oz to India....we're going to invade and clear the place.
MLE arrived at Palau. Minelaying ops starting here also.
The Imperial Guard Div is moving towards Rabaul, to give the change to the S.S.D. in the Malaria zone.
No news in china...moving units and planes (see map). Another day of horrible weather prevented any air op.
In Burma he built up Ramree Island. Now he can base fighters here in range of Rangoon[:(] I'd like to come back to Rangoon with my Tonies but they're comming out of the factories very slowly.
Always in burma he keeps bombing my units with awesome results....[:@]
The only good news of the day is that i cought 7 more dakotas flying supplies to Tsuyung![8D]

Personally I prefer to play as designed without house rules. For me this is a game.
There are plenty of ways to get stuff past the edge of the map anyway.
But my attitude towards this game and games in general is a lot more bloody minded than most people. Take that into account.

A few admitions are perhaps in its place to keep MC in the game though [;)]
India is auto supplies - the only problem is to ferry US or Oz troops into the place.
This can be done by changing HQs.. So I don't really see the problem with the map edge.

I too believe that games should be played with as few houserules as possible. They inhibit creativity and make my brain work even harder trying to remember so many houserules!

The a/cs at Pontiak in Borneo are Liberators....it means that he's trasfering them from Oz to India...so in India i must expect a strong and harsh Air campaign! 36 more tonies are getting repaired at Hanoi. They will be placed soon at Bankok.
At Ramree Island he has put 2 engeneer units...
Two big raids at Tsuyung today and one even bigger at Sining...just to let him know i haven't forgotten the last AVG's surprise[;)]

Nothing really important today. It's a very quite week.
Allied Sub mining operations and counter japanese MSWs ops at Port Blair.
Usual allied bombings in Burma; usual japanese bombings at Chungking,Sining,Lanchow and Tsuyung with LRCAP in each of these bases.
13 liberators destroyed on the ground at Pontiak(sp?), while Cebu island suddenly revealed the presence of enemy planes ...[:o] a BB TF is moving from Manila to solve this problem.
The 16th Division is being loaded on APs at Darwin. It will be moved to Truk to form with the Imperial Div the bulk of the 17th Army. 1 arty unit and 1 tank unit will join this travel. So that the 17th Army will be formed by 2 divisions,2 Brigades,2 Arty units,1 eng rgt and 1 Tank rgt. Not bad.
It's taking shape in my mind a very risky operation at Bora Bora....with the newly formed 17th Army....let's see.
The 5th Division will be moved to Java to form with the 7th the 2nd Army.
The 4th and the 56th Divs will remain in oz.
One more division will stay at Darwin in order to be ready for any threat that comes up in the west part of the map ( exmouth,Java or Sumatra.)
Else? Yes...we are now 3-1....very very depressing[:(]
I wonder how many points will i get as soon as i get Tsuyung with all those 70,000 men....

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 08/9-10/42
Ok, few important things to say.
He started to mine with Subs Sebang, where i'm bringing in some more forces( 2 Naval guard units and one more base force), while i clean paths and countermine the base.
In China everything is going as scheldued: 1500 more APs are comming to Tsyung, while Tonies and Tojos arrive in good number to patrol my main AFs ( Hanoi,Kweyang and Kungchang)
In the Indian Ocean yesterday one of my sub spotted with his Glen a TF moving from Oz to India. Every available sub in the area has been allerted and one AV with float planes is going to check. Nells and Betties are ready in Java and the light carrier Division(1 CV+2CVLs+2CVE) is moving from Singapore to Batavia. Today what i believe is the same TF is moving south back again...probably he knows i'm waiting for him and do not want to risk.
We bombed Pontiak and now we're landing here...8 moreliberators cought on the ground.
We bombed Cebu island too( with BBs and planes from Davao and Legaspi). He won't use anymore this gate!

The Imperial guard Div and 2 Bdes, along with 1 Arty and 1 Eng rgt will move from Truk,Kwalajein and Rabaul. 3 CVs are with them, while more 4 CVs are comming from Manila. 6 BBs will be involved too.
The map shows everything even if the plan is taking shape right now....this will probably be my last push of the war....gotta be succesfull!
Ok, few important things to say.
He started to mine with Subs Sebang, where i'm bringing in some more forces( 2 Naval guard units and one more base force), while i clean paths and countermine the base.
In China everything is going as scheldued: 1500 more APs are comming to Tsyung, while Tonies and Tojos arrive in good number to patrol my main AFs ( Hanoi,Kweyang and Kungchang)
In the Indian Ocean yesterday one of my sub spotted with his Glen a TF moving from Oz to India. Every available sub in the area has been allerted and one AV with float planes is going to check. Nells and Betties are ready in Java and the light carrier Division(1 CV+2CVLs+2CVE) is moving from Singapore to Batavia. Today what i believe is the same TF is moving south back again...probably he knows i'm waiting for him and do not want to risk.
We bombed Pontiak and now we're landing here...8 moreliberators cought on the ground.
We bombed Cebu island too( with BBs and planes from Davao and Legaspi). He won't use anymore this gate!

Re transport routes im not a fan of restrictions re that map edge unlike PZB I dont like the top corner where the RN can get bottled up as he did against Wobbly.
But whatever you decide I think it should be independent of Chines Command status.
I would alwyas have a house rule re keeping IJA Chinese Divisions in China unless PP's are paid I just feel with Land Combat being so "quirky" it is still just too easy to lose as the allies in China with the changes to prep points it is possible to hold on but not easy and one defeat can mean wipeout.
Given this IMO unrealistic ability of the IJA to finish off China I feel that IJA forces assigned to Chi Com should remain in borders of China even if they eliminate the Chinese field army until PP's are paid.
Alternatively one or two Chines bases should be declared uninvadable by the IJA and then you can untie Japanese hands re Chicom units but they will always take a risk doing so that the Chinese could break out of those enclaves.
Anyway thats my tuppence worth

Andy, i agree about china restriction. I only took that in consideration because i found absolutely obscure the reason for the new house rule proposed.
However, today another TF has been spotted in IO. the light carrier division is moving from Batavia to intercept. No sign of enemy CVs here...
Pontianak finally fell and Cebu Island recieved the attention of 4 BBs....one more day of bombings and then my BB will sail southwards, towards Palau and then Truk to partecipate to Sideshow.
Sideshow has officially started. My main CVs are a bit late( south of Davao) but i hope they will be on time for the meeting near Tarawa.
He mines Sebang and Port Blair, i minesweep them. It's a cat and mouse game.
One CD unit moving to Sebang from Darwin. Ramree island now has fighters[:@] It's going to be a bloody autumn in Burma....
2 more days and the 1st Tank Division will be available...i have enough pps to be able to send it to Malaya as soon as it comes.
one more unit appeared in Chungking...now 37 units for 170,000 men[:(]

I do not understand how the points for killing enemy men are calculated...seems that 1800 allies do not worth 300 japanese killed....

Although on balance I probably come out against the restriction at the map edge I dont actually find it obscure for me its a finely balanced argument and I can sympathise with MC.
In reality allied convoys in the Indian Ocean had a lot more space to lose themselves in than is available in WITP i.e. they cannot turn carrier attacks on convoys into a proper stern chase as they can really only go in two directions. They had a lot more options to run for cover from East African bases if enemy carriers were at sea.
It is just a little too easy IMO for a few IJN subs to find convoys in this area and bring in CVL/CVE raiders.
On the other hand the allies did use heavy covering forces to protect these convoys and didnt ship troops or aircraft from Aus/US to India via the pacific.
Add to that the ability of the allies to send LCU's via PP point spend and the supply level of karachi make me come down on the side or no houserule on this one but I do understand why the allies could want one and the argument for me isnt one sided.

Thanks for your comment Andy. The problem remains, because now i've spotted his convoy ( 2 ships) going from Oz to India. My light carrier division is going to intercept it....I do not know how will he react to the sinking of his ships, but i really do think the allies have many ways to send LCU and planes to Karachi( paying pp points via S.Frisco) that we do not need an house rule for that.
However, as said my CVLs are moving. Only 2 ships....mm...probably he thinks that with only 2 ships i won't care much of sending my CVs there...he will have a nasty surprise!
He's now using a new AF in western Sumatra to move his liberators to India...no way i can stop this thing in time[:(], but i got only myself to blame not to have seen this threat on time![:@][:@]
