The question, of course, is how many Russian divisions are left in a fighting condition.

There are very few Russians able to fight at the moment. The situation is a complete disaster and the outcome of this campaign is only a question of time.

Stalingrad won't fall and it looks like Gorki will be at SL 4 on Dec 7. You'll have to endure at least 2 turns of blizzard. If the Soviets recapture Gorki on either Dec 7 or 14 you can't win before summer '42...

The question, of course, is how many Russian divisions are left in a fighting condition.

The Soviets have been unable to stop my forces since the very beginning of the campaign. I've destroyed almost 13.000 tanks so far and it seems that is the only wunderwaffe which can stop German army. I expect Gorki to fall in 1-2 turns even if it has SL 0. Destruction of factories in the city is much more important than a few obsolete German tanks.

I expect Stalingrad to fall in 2-3 turns, unless weather worsens in mid November, what is rather improbable.

The Soviets have also lost approximately 15.000 planes, almost all European factories, Gorki and Stalingrad are supposed to fall soon, Saratov is bombed, Maikop will be seized... At the moment I have more oil than the Soviets. And they have only 65 resorces...

Even if the Soviets somehow manage to counterattack I can withdraw even 15 hexes and still have a pretty good situation to attack in summer 1942.

Well, is seems you were right. There was a week of blizzard (16th Nov) what stopped Wehrmacht totally. The Soviets even managed to shatter armored corps.

But the following week was snowy and the Germans put everything at stake. Result is Gorki is seized, but Stalingrad remains Soviet. Both Novorossisk and Maikop are taken as well. It seems all factories in Saratov are burned since when I bomb the city there is nothing to aim at.

If there is one more week of good weather I'll have to take Stalingrad and reinforce and entrench Gorki area. If I can hold it for 4 weeks the game is over.

First campaign:
The Germans managed to break a front line near Leningrad but fortunately they were stopped. Southern they performed an excellent armored raid, seized Rzhev but, afraid of blizzard, withdrew.

Smolensk remains Soviet and the Germans haven't tried to recapture it.

Dnepr line southern to Mogilev was restored and Soviets even crossed it. Southern to Kiev the Red Army attacked on Dec. 30th hoping the next week weather would worsen. They repulsed weak Reich's allies and even bridged southern Bug (Buh).

In the meantime some bombing took place: the Soviets performed several sorties against Fw-190 factories in Vienna, Budapest and Leipzig, while Germans bombed Soviet heavy industry factories in many cities.

On Dec. 7th weather turned into blizzard. The Winter Storm counteroffensive has already been launched!

Indeed, a Rzhev salient on December 7th wouldn't have been a good thing
... at least, not for the Germans!! [:-]

Near Stalingrad, the defenses were surprisingly weak and I was sure that it might have been a trap. Anyhow, besieging the city in the winter is obviously not the way to go when you know the frozen Ladoga Lake allows supply to come anyways.

After a long break we play again.

PYG (Ger) vs Morphy (Sov)
12/14/1941 Blizzard

Third week of the Winter Storm.
Germans decided to withdraw plenty of their corpses.
North: the Red Army pushes Germans off Leningrad and created a huge gap between the city and Novogorod. Southern to Novogrod one German inf. corps was besieged and destroyed - they lost over 150 tanks. Lovat is bridged entirely. Near Velikyie Luki Soviets tried to envelope 2 German armored corpes but failed. But a little bit further to south one German armored corps is encircled.

Centre: Soviets have reached Vitebsk and Mogilev. Encirclement operations are performed. There is a huge gap in German front line from Mogilev to Kiev, the Red Army is marching toward Minsk.

3 German corpses, one armored were enveloped in Kiev area - it's like Stalingrad 1942. Zhitomir has been seized.

South: After capture of Human Soviets push forward toward Odessa - for the first time land connection with the city was reestablished. HQ of 3rd Romanian army was shattered and approximately 160 planes destroyed.

Entire German front between Odessa and Mogilev is in shambles. The same between Velikye Luki and Leningrad.

PYG (Ger) vs Morphy (Sov)
New Year's Eve 1941, blizzard

The Operation Winter Storm is being carried out crippling Germans. Unfortunately Wehrmacht has learnt it's lesson and most units has been withdrawn thus German losses has declined.

North: No German units were spotted, Soviets approach Narva and Pskov. Leningrad has been bombed by Germans one more time.

Velikye Luki area: the city has been liberated ahead of time. Primarily it was supposed to be encircled and forced to surrender but constant German bombing of Moscow persuaded me to keep advancing as fast as possible. Western to city an armored corps with over 100 tanks was shattered.

Centre: Soviet troops approach Vitebsk, Mogilev was enveloped last week but German counterattack destroyed one Soviet corps and opened a road to the city. Second Soviet attack cut it off again.

Orel Front attacking from Gomel area is marching toward Minsk spotting no Germans.

Kiev area: the garrison and 3 other corpses were besieged and destroyed. The city is Soviet again!!! Germans expected the city to fall thus they withdrew all tanks and strenghtened Zhitmir garrison. The Red Army is slowly moving west.

South: Germans have withdrawn to Romania. Soviets are chasing them.

Feb. 1st 1942 blizzard

Soviets have slowed down their march due to shortages of supply. Anyhow, in north Narva was seized and 2 Soviet corpses entered Estonia. After capture of Pskov the Red Army has blocked the Talinn - Riga railoroad leaving Estonia without supply.

A great success near Vitebsk: a few German corpses were besieged and destroyed - Wehrmacht has lost an entire army, additionaly Luftwaffe has lost another one since two HQs were shattered. The Red Army is approx. 50 miles from Dauvgapils.

Soviet forces advancing from Gomel have besieged Minsk but it's garrison has withstood all attacks so far (2 weeks).

After capture of Zhitomir Southwest Front has seized Tarnopol and slowly moves westward.

Zhukov's Southeast Front has entered deep into Romania - Constanta was seized, 2 Soviet corpses have reached suburbs of Ploesti and are more or less 25 miles from Bucharest.

Soviet army has been turned into a powerful force: it has more than 6000 tanks (4400 T-34s, 1100 KV1s) and only 150 old ones (BT7, T28). There are 30 guard tank brigades.

The Red Air Force has discarded all I-15s and MiG-1s, there are only 200 I-16s used (just one fighter division), 100 MiG -3s and 100 LaGGs and more than 2200 Yaks.

The Red Army has 80.200 infantry squads and a full pool (almost 30.000), 3850 recon vehicles, 10.400 guns, 7.250 antitank guns, 4350 flak guns and over 8.400 planes in duty.

That's why the Allieds decided that January 41 was time to land in Sicily; they don't want the whole Europe to turn red [;)]

An excellent news!

On February 13th Bucharest was seized by Soviets! Romanians have surrendered! Germans have disarmed Romanians but they've lost one ally. Additionaly, their oil reserves are below 100 ;)

Minsk is seized after 3 weeks of combined attacks.

Soviets barely manage to keep moving due to shortages of supply. The Winter Storm operation has dried out all reserves. But it will be over in 3-5 weeks due to rains.
