I am currently at work on my lunch hour and thought I would make a quick post.

Operation PLASTIC FLOWER is a failure - Xargun spotted my tankers at palembang. the goal was to withdraw 100.000 points of oil from palembang. he sank two TK's there and another one is badly mauled up - thanks to his Kates from a baby KB. My CAP there sucked big time. I had withdrawn about 30000 points of oil - better then nothing. I just hope that the C4 charges planted on the oil fields will work and go off when he jumps into palembang.
So sorry I had spotted a lot of TFs around Palembang and got a couple actual IDs on some TKs there from my Sallies and recon planes at Kuching. So... The baby CV TF has been in Saigon for a few days and was sortied out to see what I could find. I was actually hoping to catch DDs and other ASW assets there, but I'm happy sinking TKs. This will limit his ability to move oil/fuel in the area for a while until new TKs from the West Coast can arrive - at least a month. Even better than sinking 3 TKs now is that I lost no CV planes during any of the raids.

I have lost track of his subs and in reverse he got more and more spots and hits on my subs.
CL Mauritius was victim of the Singapore raid. She got 90 sys damage and I tried to withdraw her from singapore while the weather was bad. unfortunatly, with 1-2 knots of speed there was just not enough room between her and the jap air base. She took about 100 bomb hits from small boms and she is still afloat but the damage is bad and I have lost all hope that she will make it to port.
I hit that dumb ship with 3 separate air raids and roughly a hundred 100kg bombs. None of them penetrated her armor, but she can't have anything left topside. If she makes port she will suck up repair points for a year or so before I get another chance to sink her.

Operation RED VULTURE is still underway and is working properly. more news on this later - good news.
I wonder if he is referring to his attempt to move Marines to Baker Island ??? A lonely IJN Sub was patroling east of Baker and spotted a nice fat merchie. She put 3 torps into her, sending her quickly to the bottom. Inspection of the debris should evidence of Marines being on the ship. Not many bodies were found, so more ships must have been nearby to rescue survivors. Oh well.. When I come for Baker I will take it anyways.. Nothing he will send there can stop it - or should I say - nothing he will risk there will stop it. It would be a mistake to risk too much for that island this early in the war.
too bad about the tankers...good luck now, bad weather is in sight.
marines at baker island ? ahh, yes ! if you think that a lieutenant colonels battalion of marines is even noticed in the Pentagon and marked with an 'Operation' ....[8|] LOL. They have just been unlucky - thats it. nono, RED VULTURE is something really different and still a great success.
It has been over a week in the game since I last posted anything so I am making a combined post.
First thing first... In the past 11 days I have sunk the following allied ships:
3 AK, 1 CL, 2 PG, 3 TK, 4 PT, 2 AP
In return I have lost:
3 SS, 5 AP, 1 PG, 1 CA
Most of my naval losses have been either at Admiralty Island or at Shortlands where Rob and I have had some surface engagements. At both locations the APs were lost, but managed to unload the majority of their cargos - especially troops.
I have captured the following bases as well:
Victoria Point, Mantok (next to Palembang), Jolo, Morotai, Shortlands, Wasile, Zamboanga, Tavoy, Alor Star, and Kuantan.
My invasion of Kuantan was preceeded by a massive naval bombardment claiming over 1600 allied troops - this made the landing very easy and the subsequent battle very one sided. The IJN also paid a visit to Davao with a naval bombardment. This was aimed at aircraft, but missed them, getting mostly men. Oh well.. I'll take it.
As I posted earlier I saw a bunch of TFs around Palembang and paid a visit with LBA and the mini KB. I only bagged 3 TKs, but I think it was a good raid as I doubt he'll be trying to pull oil out of there for a while. The mini KB also popped a pair of APs which were detected carrying elements of the Zuid Garrison ??? Wherever they are from. Perhaps he was trying to bring more troops into Palembang or evacuating Borneo. Either way both APs spotted carrying the troops have been sunk before they reached port.
There was a small naval engagement in the PI. In which 5 allied PTs engaged a small IJN TF of 4 DDs. The result was probably a win for the allies despite losing 4 of the 5 PTs. Two IJN DDs were struck with HMG fire and I believe one of them was hit by a torpedo. The DDs will survive to fight again later, but need repairs - thus an allied victory I believe.

INSIGHT
I am starting a new thread for some private insight without Oli reading it.. So Oli if you see this stay away from my new thread [:)]
Most of my naval losses have been either at Admiralty Island or at Shortlands where Rob and I have had some surface engagements. [X(][X(][X(][X(][X(][X(][X(] [&:] [;)]
OK, back 2 business, nothing special to report. we have now 29th december 41 and Xargun has hit another sub with one DC south of Taiwan. I havent seen any of his CV's since some time now - the last contact I had is about a week ago - it was somewhere north around midway....I fear that he does something that he has done against Rob in earlier games ( cant remember which one because they both started over and over again [:D] but there was once a KB sitting beween SF and PH.... but its gamey....if I find his tankers... [;)] but the life line will be cut-off then and there is NOTHING in the world that could stop him.
I have reached a safe point with the CL Xarg bombed to hell north of malaya some turns ago. flooding is controled and its limping back to harbour. well it will be in the yard for a year or two....
nothig really happend today.
Yesterday, Pentagon has given OK to my idea of operation TOOTHLESS XARGUNS. Will tell you what it will be exactly once I get the results. RED VULTURE is still up & running OK without anything yet to report in.
I dropped off some men at Taytay in the Philippines. It still amazes me how many men can get hurt unloading at an uncontested LZ.
A large air raid scored some hits on the chinese airbase at Wuchow. Only caught 1 plane on the ground, but at least I cratered the runways some.
S-39 put a single torpedo into an IJN PC, destroying the little boat easily. This battle happened just south of Luzon.
Artillery strikes in china continue to rack up dead and wounded chinese troops.
North of Moulmein an Indian Brigade moved into a hex controlled by an IJA Division. The division attacked the enemy unit and routed it. The Indian troops quickly broke and ran back north. Roughly 850 enemy casualties were reported to around 50 IJA losses. The road to Rangoon is still blocked against the fleeing British Base Forces.
Made my first attack at Taiping. The attack went well - IJA losses were nearly 300.. British were just over 100.. But the fortifications were lowered and I nearly captured it. It should fall in the next day.
My small number of men landed at Wewak captured that base easily. As did the men at Guiuan.
Oli finally attacked my trapped unit at Homan. His 6 or 7 chinese Corps managed to get huge odds (325 to 1 - not a surprised considering the unit has been cutoff for over a week now). The unit took 350 losses and retreated eastward. Now I just need to retreat it back to the rail to get some supplies and a little R & R before throwing it back into the war.
My ASW efforts hit the SS Surgeon and allied ASW efforts damaged I-157.
IJN I-155 misses the allied TK Empire Silver as the tanker approaches Batavia. Argh [:@] Would have liked to hit that sucker - I'm sure its carrying fuel or oil from Palembang.
My subs landed some men on Lihu yesterday and today the captured the base !!!! This should cause some reaction from the US - as its actual US territory captured now.. I wonder what would have happened historically if one of the Hawaiian islands been taken.... The best news is that my men found an airstrip with 6 PBYs on it and destroyed them.. That is my first US air unit completely wiped out !!
An allied ASW TF finds RO-33 (in deep water) and hammers the hell out of it.. Hitting with 4 depth charges, sinking her - if they are this good at sinking subs right now, I hate to see what happens when they get better at it [&:]
My troops in Manilla reported activity at the port, so I ordered some air strikes !! The first strike consisting of Lilly bombers only managed to land 1 hit on the AK Princess of Negros, as well as 2 reported port hits. The followup strike of 9 Vals and 36 Anns did much better. They landed 3 hits on AK Sagoland, 2 on AK Princess of Negros and 1 on MSW Whippoorwill - all 3 ships were burning brightly as they flew home. As an afterthought they scored 2 port, 1 fuel and 3 supply hits, as well as claiming 20 men.
A rather heavy armed surface fleet was on its way to support combat ops on Luzon when I spotted at least 2 enemy TF fleeing the philippines heading east - so the TF was sent after them. I missed last turn, but today they abruptly met [:D] The first fight was my TF (2 BB, 2 CA and 4 DDs) against the AS Canopus... Needless to say the AS was sunk quickly. The second fight was even better. My TF found AK Capillo and hammered it under the waves as well - but to my surprise my men found nearly 750 bodies floating in the water - could not identify what unit, but I am assuming they belonged to one of the US Air Force base units stationed in the Philippines... A good catch..
More chinese met their end from air and artillery strikes.
I made my first attack on Georgetown - which is only defended by the coastal defense unit. The first attack was repulsed - kinda funny how the guns designed to protect the port only can turn around and fire against targets on the land !! Oh well.. Losses were about even and I lowered the forts some. The base will fall in the next couple days for sure.
My troops have waded ashore at Singkawang and meet mild resistance. Over 400 troops wounded in the landing alone.
My invasion of Lihu has recieved a bitter welcome. 6 Boston A-20Bs and 12 B-17Es from Pearl paid a visit dropping hundreds of bombs. Over 50 men were wounded or killed. But the brave IJN Marines still hold the island.
My large surface TF East of the Philippines found the TK Mindanao and hammered her beneath the waves. The tanker absorbed 13 shells and 2 torpedoes before succumbing to the waves. It is believe she was carrying fuel from the Philippines, but not confirmed.
A large IJN Bombardment force led by the BB Kongo (4 BB, 5 CA and 6 DD) bombarded Sinkawang catching over 150 dutch troops in the open. Reports claim 150+ enemy troops, 2 guns, 2 vehicles, as well as 3 airbase, 9 runway, 8 port, and 15 supply hits.
IJN Troops rush ashore at Puerto Princesa as well with no enemy contact made. Landing casualties are considered light.
IJN troops also wade ashore at Noemfoor - no enemy contact made and light casualties reported.
At Naga (Philippines) IJA troops bombard the enemy Philippine Divisions there claiming over 30 losses.
SE of Changsha (I think) I have numerous chinese units cut off with heavy IJA troops engaging them. A single artillery strike claimed over 500 chinese troops. An artillery strike at Ichang claim 100 chinese troops as well. At Yenen, another arty strike claimes another hundred chinese troops.
In Malaysia my troops attacked Georgetown but were repulsed. Over 100 IJA troops and 70 British were reported killed or wounded.
A little better turn, but still kinda slow for my liking - at least this early in the war.
The last of the 4th Brigade (or was it Regiment - I don't remember) finish unloading at Singkawang. Its supporting Bombardment TF fired off another volley hitting better than before. The TF claims 226 men, 1 gun, 8 aribase, 21 runway, 1 port and 7 supply hits.
At Lihu the US Navy arrived (as I figured it would) and my subs there did not even engaged [:@] The small US TF consisting of 5 DD and the CL Honolulu bombarded Lihu. They hit everything but the IJN Marines on the island [:D] Damage to the port, airbase and supply were decent, but that matters little to me.. I don't plan on basing planes here.. Although it would be an ideal place to hammer the hell out of Pearl from [:D]
More IJN troops land at Dagua, and prepare to conquer the base. IJN Troops also land at Pinrang.
A dozen RAF Blenheim I's sneak in from Rangoon (I think) and bomb undefended Tavoy. Their bombs get lucky and find a few resources to damage.
My Betties raid Manilla port again. 22 Betties make a run on the port, dropping bombs. Only the MSW Bittern is hit (only once) and is listing heavily and burning brightly. Mild damage to the men at the port and the supply was also claimed. A half dozen Betties returned with flak damage.
Air strikes in china claim 200 chinese troops and 1 gun. Air strikes in Malaysia claim 154 men and 5 guns.
An attack took place against the cutoff chinese troops near Changsha. The battle was fierce. Losses were over 800 IJA and nearly 1000 chinese. The IJA troops are readying for another attack and the chinese are weakening - they should surrender soon.
Arty strike at Ichang claim 78 chinese. Arty strikes at Yenen claim 320 chinese men and 1 gun.
In the Philippines an IJA unit crosses an unseen river (I really need to pay more attention to these damn semi-visible rivers as they are costing me a lot of men) and shock attack the Philippine troops at Tuguegarao. The IJA troops are nearly routed and retreat to Aparri. Over 1100 IJA troops are killed or wounded.
At Singkawang IJA troops plowed from the beaches capturing the base and routing the defending Dutch forces which retreated SW - 35 dutch troops were killed. As the IJA troops rushed the airfield they destroyed a lone Martin 139 plane left behind by the dutch in the rush to run away. Now I have an airfield on the west coast of Borneo to cover the waters between Borneo and Palembang.
IJN troops at Noermfoot rushed forward and captured the base and found no enemy troops.
PG Choantz sunk from previous damage gained from the naval battle at the Shortlands.
A small IJN TF (3 DDs and 1 CL) located the pair of allied PT boats spotted in the area around Cagayan. In the brief fight PT-32 was hammered and sunk quickly.. the remaining PT boat fled.
Mines were also discovered in the shoals around Kuching.. Minesweepers have been ordered to clear them.
My air raid on Kweilin airfields was partially successfull. They hit the field, but caught nothing on the ground. Damage reports claim 7 airbase, 3 supply and 17 runway hits.
RAF Blenheim I bombers returned to the skies over Tavoy and were surprised by 5 zeros and 7 Nates flying cover. The Blenheims were hammered, with 6 of the 9 planes shot down. No hits were scored on anything at Tavoy today.
More air strikes in China claim 88 chinese troops and 1 gun. Air strikes in Malaysia claim 59 enemy troops and 1 gun.
The RAF has finally sortied itself in large numbers - 12 Swordfish, 9 Vildebeests, 14 Blenheim IVs escorted by 37 Buffalos showed up in the skies over Kuantan where a large IJN TF is busy unloading troops and supplies for the war in Malaysia. Most of the assigned CAP did not fly so only 3 Nates and 4 Oscars were in the air. Needless to say the RAF bombers came through unmolested and it showed. They scored hits on 4 ships, 3 DDs and 1 AP. The heaviest hit was the DD Uranami which took 4 bombs and a torpedo hit. A little while later DD Uranami sunk [:@]
A second wave of RAF from Singapore (7 swordfish, 9 Vildebeests, 12 Blenheims and 28 Buffalos) came through again and hit 3 ships this time. A DD and AP each took a single bomb hit, while PC Shimushu took a torpedo. Not a good day in the war for the IJN in Malaysia.
In better news, RO-66 surprised the AP U.S. Grant, hitting her with 2 torpedoes and killing nearly 100 men. The AP seems to be heading for Canton - obviously carrying reinforcements for the isolated island base.
In china the IJA attacked the cutoff troops again, claiming over 500 chinese loses to 450 of their own. The chinese troops are barely holding on and should be almost out of supplies now.
Arty strikes at Ichang claim 101 chinese troops and 1 gun. Arty strikes at Yenen claim 124 chinese and 1 gun.
The Imperial Guards atatck the small base at Moulmein and were met, with surprise, by both the 1st and 2nd British Burma Brigades. The attack caused over 150 British losses with a mere 20 IJA losses. It is nice to know both of the famed Burma Brigades are cutoff and trapped and will soon be annihilated [:D]
At Georgetown IJA troops capture the base, killing / capturing over 2200 british troops. The base will now house IJA bombers to close the Straits of Malacca to all enemy shipping.
IJN troops capture Dagua and Pinrang against no enemy opposition.
I am recaptureing Lihau atm and what does Xargun ? He invades another hawaiian island with his sub invasion TF's.
Operation RED VULTURE is nearly completed [:)]
More good news from the Malaya area : I have sunk 1 DD and I have crippled another DD and an AP or AK.
At Sinkawang - the base is lost. was to be expected.
my attempt of reinforceing most of the small islands in the pacific area are bad executed - he has subs everywhere sinking my troops before they reach the island....and I lack the escorts to protect them all.
at PI he has troops at manila, Clark Field and Naga. I dont know how long they can hold out.
at the West Cost all ships are underway or in the repair yards. I ahve no cargo capacity left - it will take some days before the national tanker and freighter reserve will be ready for duty.
ASW - nothing to report, the jap subs are everywhere where I dont have escorts.
the CL Xarg has hit hard has again a flood level ! it left harbour without any flood level and a sys damage with 90+ but there was no flooding. it seems a ship with 90+ sys damage makes water when on sea ( makes sense btw ) but I didnt knew that before. I had the rumor about it but I didnt belived it - now its proof.
Here is a battle report. I just shortened the land comabt a bit.

The CL Xargun bombed to 99 Sys damage arrived at a harbor for repairs safely. the flooding will be gone hopefully soon.
I have recaptured the island of Lihau ( sp ? ) & Xargun attacked the other hawaiian island but there was a garrision there....his men got slapped - out of 60 men 40 are dead or wounded now [:D] what a great success.
RED VULTURE : A success ! I will reveal it now....the goal was to save as much shipping as possible from the PI. The route the ships where taking was simple : across the ocean. I targeted Iwo Jima and then the single ship TF's set sail towards San Diego. Most of the ships are at harbor now and the rest is only 2 days away. Xargun got only the poos govenor wright in the middle of the operation and I feard that he got notice of the plan but his carries in the area searched in the wrong direction ! he caught some ships but these ships were already damaged more or less from his previous bombing runs against manila. I think I rescued 27 ships out of 35. more news later
Update : HI islands are having fresh air = they are all free of stinking rat japs [:D] I have sunk I-1 due to aggressive ASW air patrols SW of PH. The rest of the Sub TF was heading NE from PH.
At Tarakan I launched a surprising torpedo-bomber attack on his AP'sand TK's on Balikappan. The AP's where unescorted and I scored one torpedo hit on 1 TK. I tried to engage with a Surface Combat TF but the skies cleared and his Nells went on air to disturb me. fortunatly no ship was hit.
In China he gaind some ground and the situation is not good at all. I lost 12000 men in one combat near Changsa ( West of it )
Some of his carriers are tracked down between FS and PH. They are there ! But there is nothing....I think Xargun is practising torpedo runs against some fishes.
The repair yard at PH is back online for 100%.
Diamond Harbour was hit by an air strike of 24 Nells. According to the offical claim losses list, 8 where lost 7 to flak, 1 to ops. I had no fighters in the air due to the lack of air groups.
I converted some of the bomer groups to the LB-30 Liberator instead of other types.
My subs are still out there - but they spot nothing else then his ASW forces. I think I loose SS KV XV - it took 2 hits and has a lot of flooding now.
There was a surface combat at the Vogelkop peninsula - 2 or 3 transports were escorted by 2 PG's - my CA Houston and 1 CL and some DD took care of them - one PG went down ! unfortunatly, the transports got away.
Xarguns CV TF between PH and SF scored 3 AK's who were empty heading home to SF.
At Tarakan we had a surface combat. I had CL Java, CL Marblehead and 4 DD's - he had 2 DD's, about 6 PG's. I encountered the ASW TF who damaged KV XV the day before. I mauled up 1 DD and 2 or 3 PG's. I lost a DD. I scored even 1 Torpedo hit on a PG but his ships seem to have composite armor installed [:@]
I try to hit him where I can - but I suffer losses. In china, another 10000 men are lost again [:(]
my TK's suffered hits too trying to steal oil from Palembang
At night an Allied TF of the CA Houston, CL Boise and 3 DDs appear out of nowhere near Noemfoor and surprise a small IJN TF (2 APs & 3 PGs). The PGs did a good job of keeping the allies away from the troops and the allies only scored 1 hit on an AP. 2 of the PGs took some shots - with PG Hirotama taking a total of 25 hits - surprised she didn't sink..
Japanese troops landed at Lahaina.
Oli must have dropped off a full brigade at Lihu. Over the course of 2 unload phases, nearly 600 allied troops are wounded or killed. Kinda funny, since my marines evacuated the island and are now at Lahaina. Intel reports at least part of the 25th/B Division landing at Lihu [:D]
My MSWs encounter allied mines at Kuching and begin cleanup.
In China, my air strikes claim 149 troops and 4 guns. Bombardments at Ichang claim 109 enemy troops and 2 guns. At Yenen another 50 chinese (and 2 guns) are claimed.
In the Philippines my troops are bombardmenting Clark Field, Naga and Manilla catching US and Philippino troops in the open. Manilla loses 27 men; Naga loses none; Clark loses 250 men, 14 guns and 2 vehicles.
In china, IJA troops attack 3 chinese corps cutoff and inflict 600+ losses while suffering only 400. This is the beginning of the end for the 3 chinese corps.
My divisions at Moulmein capture the base against british regulars. As my 3 divisions crush the enemy, over 10,000 enemy troops are killed or captured. In the end, the 1st & 2nd British Burma Brigades, along with the 13th Indian Brigade and the 106th (??) RAF BF were wiped out at Moulmein. Now I have no doubt I can take Rangoon easily and perhaps southern Burma as well. The lose of 3 Brigades has to hurt his defenses.
IJN troops capture Puerto Princesa against no opposition.
More men from the 25th USA Dision storm ashore and hit mines and booby traps my marines left behind. Another 500 allied troops are wounded during the landings !! So nice to see it happen to the other side when you land on an undefended island [:D]
IJ troops rush ashore at Aitape and capture it against no enemy forces.
A daylight raid at Chungking by 51 Sallies run into 10 Chinese fighters which prove ineffective. My Sallies bomb his resources claiming 16 hits and return with only 4 damaged aircraft. A good raid.
A raid on Singapore proves ineffective, as my Nells hit nothing. The escorting zeros bag 6 Buffalo fighters though. 1 Nell failed to return from the raid.
A dozen A-20Bs from Pearl bombed Lihu in the warmups to take the undefended base.
More air strikes in china claim 116 men and 4 guns. Arty strikes at Yenen claim 60 troops.
Another attack on the 3 cutoff chinese corps claim 750 enemy troops and only 400 losses. These chinese troops have to be ready to break. I got 43:1 odds in the last attack... I will keep up the pressure until they crack.
More bombardment in the Phillipines claim 14 men at Manilla; 30 men and 1 vehicle claimed at Naga; and 75 men (2 guns) claimed at Clark.
The 25th /B Division successfully captures Lihu against no opposition
The marines at Lahaina foolishly believe they can take on a simple BF and attack - they get mauled and all men are either killed or captured.
PG Shimushu succumbs to previous damage and sinks.
