Scenario Design and Development Manager Selected
Hello Everyone
I would like to make this official and announce that Daniel McBride will be stepping into the role of Scenario Design and Development Manager. If you are at all a fan of TOAW you have most likely already played a Daniel McBride designed scenario. There are many excellent scenarios for TOAW but you would be hard pressed to find many on the level of design by Mr. McBride. Daniel has and will continue to work on our Combined Arms game during this project. We are very happy that Daniel is also helping us with our TOAW:MG project as this and only helps assures the best game possible for the TOAW community.

Well I hope that being Scenario Design and Development Manager won't stop you from actually designing yourself. You're one of the best Daniel, congratulations.

Great choice - good to see that Matrix listens to the community.

Teamwork is essential - it gives the enemy someone else to shoot at.....

After laughing at the comment of Daniel's hereditary enemy, I have to add that the scenario design management couldn't be in better hands.

Best man for the job. In fact he was the best as designer, I hope making him "Scenario design and whatnot manager" won't take him too much time off designing his own scenarios.

Congratulations on an excellent choice. With 7 years of playing the various incarnations of TOAW, I’ve never seen any scenarios come close to the detail and/or the accuracy that McBride’s does.

Thanks for the comments and belated apologies for my tardy response. By way of addressing Oleg's concerns in the other thread I'll post ongoing info here that I think warrants some sort of >>News Flash<< as to what we are up to. I trust Oleg won't be disappointed that I wasn't specifically ordered to do so.[:D]
Here's the list of scenario reviewers in my august group:

And so:
--We have people from the Blitz, Rugged Defense, SZO, & TDG, along with the usual wild asses of the desert, the lunatic fringe, the otherwise independent, moles, and cross-dressing Matrix members.
--Of the 20 people listed 9 are mostly known as designers, 11 as players.
--I can't resist highlighting the international make-up of the group. We have gamers and designers from:
Canada
Finland
France
Great Britain
Ireland
Italy
New Zealand
Poland
Portugal
Spain
Sweden
Ukraine
U.S.A.
I tried for a Turk, I really did....
We are using the scenario archive at Rugged Defense as our base list which has been put onto a spreadsheet. We'll also check other archives further on; e.g. Andy Eaton's fine TOAW site (http://www.toaw.co.uk/), and also a spreadsheet TOAW data base from the Blitz. Right now we are doing an initial quick run-through of 400+ scenarios to be divided into Not Recommended or Possible Inclusion. The much reduced stack will then get a more detailed look-through. At the end the group votes on the ones we will recommend to Matrix: one person, one vote.
Of course we'll look at any scenarios you want to endorse or at least make sure we look at--just post it in this thread or over at SZO, after making sure it isn't already up at Rugged Defense.
I'm quite curious to see what is out there... who knows what we'll find.
Best,
Daniel

BTW,
Do you see any problem with publishing these scenarios in respect to authorship? Are these games considered to be in the public domain or will you need to contact the designer and receive permission to use them (what I would guess)?
Some, if not many, of those 400+ scenarios are fairly old and contacting the designer could be a problem.
What is your read on that situation?
Thanks,
Ray (alias Lava)

Ray,
Yep, good question that. The short answer is that even though (I think) Matrix has every right to publish any posted scenario it would care to, in fact we won't be including any scenario without designer permission, no matter how good it might be. It's a bottom line courtesy in my view.
Contacting designers will be alot of work. Its one of the reasons we decided to greatly reduce the Big Pile by a first review to remove obvious unsuitable work before we start attempting to contact them.

Indeed,
I should think that even with the extensive group you have put together, "a lot of work" pretty much understates your entire task.
Good Luck.
Thanks for the response, BTW.

Disappointments are part of life Stauffenberg, you of all people should know that [:D]
For most part this is very good team, and good you posted this info here....
Please be very critical of reviewed scenarios, and go for quality not necessarily quantity. Though we all know komrade Stalin said that quantity has (all together now) a quality of its own.
BTW board nicknames should be banned to hell. [X(] I didn't have slightest idea "el hefe" is Trey, "Sheik Yerbouti" (my god?) is Jyri, or that J. Fils is "Legun"?!? Perhaps I should go with the flow and invent some nick for myself insetad of using just the boring real name.

You mean "Leutnant Groinschnitt" isn't you?? Glad we got that straightened out, now I have to figure out who I was talking to.[;)]

Isn't this where the community comes in? 3 rounds of 'postal bombardment' should show whether or not the original designer has any interest in his/her works....
Someone please define "abandonware" as applied to scenario designs, lol!
