A fair bit of air action over the SRA for 7th and 8th February..........
The IJA bombing of Manila and Sing resulted in a little more damage and several planes lost to AA.
All troops are shore at Jambi and Palembang will be reached in a short amount of time [:)] When that is taken along with 1 other base (remains secret) phase 1b will be over. 1c is to come and then Phase 2 begins [8D]
Niks pathetic air force did virtually nothing over the 2 days. In fact the only offensive action for him was the Blenheims sweeping Rangoon from Akyab. 1 was shot down. In return 1 bullet dislodged a stone on the far east runway. A trooper replaced the stone at first light. Airfield 100% operational again [:D]

The main action from my perspective was the subjugation of a Dutch transport TF at Banjarmasin on the west coast of Borneo. It was either unloading troops or wanting to take some away. Either way most of the ships will be doing little from now on. Nells and Betties flew from Kuching, Kendari and even Davao over the 2 days.
The following ships were hit and sunk:
DD Van Nes, Torpedo hits 3, on fire, heavy damage *SUNK*
AP Rochussen, Torpedo hits 3, on fire, heavy damage *SUNK
AP Van Overstraten, Torpedo hits 3, on fire, heavy damage *SUNK*

Woohoo some spare time (1 hour before the 'misses' turns up)!
We've reached mid February 42 now. With me stuck at Singapore and Manila with most forces few other major offensive operations can be started.
The 35th Brigade + other units are nearing Palembang now (phase 1b objective) which should fall within a week.
A further key phase 1b objective was attacked today:
Ground combat at Balikpapan
Japanese Deliberate attack
Attacking force 13240 troops, 64 guns, 0 vehicles
Defending force 6070 troops, 63 guns, 8 vehicles
Japanese assault odds: 2 to 1 (fort level 1)
Japanese Assault reduces fortifications to 0
Japanese ground losses:
184 casualties reported
Guns lost 7
Allied ground losses:
70 casualties reported
It should fall tomorrow.
The usual air bombardments by me at Sing and Manila. The air boys in Malaya have been ordered to do something different tomorrow. You'll see......
Some interesting firefights over Rangoon with my offensive stalled at Mandalay due to insufficient land forces a stalemate is in place.
Nik attacked Rangoon today with Blenheim 1F's escorted by Hurri's. My Oscars and Zero's (in particular) proved their superiority in plane and pilot over the 2 days:

I'm sure that when i load BTR, it will show US planes shooting down those dumb Germans at a precise 1.2:1 ratio or better. Your cities will be destroyed at rate of 2 pixel per bombloaded aircraft. All is well.

I thought i'd try something different on 17/18th Feb. I night bombed Singapore with my LBA. More so as a test to see how effective or lack of it would be. Here's the result:
Night Air attack on Singapore , at 23,50
Japanese aircraft

Japanese aircraft losses
Ki-21 Sally: 1 destroyed, 8 damaged
Aircraft Attacking:
6 x Ki-21 Sally bombing at 22000 feet
6 x Ki-21 Sally bombing at 22000 feet
15 x Ki-21 Sally bombing at 22000 feet
10 x Ki-21 Sally bombing at 22000 feet
7 x Ki-21 Sally bombing at 22000 feet
4 x Ki-49 Helen bombing at 22000 feet
Back to dayime we go.............it seems except by using the 4E it may not be worth night bombing anymore which is a good thing!

The other major succes today was the capture of Balikpapan on Borneo. The damaged AP Mijer and AD Black Hawk were scuttled before our men could capture them!
Good news is that all of the resource and oil production was taken before the enemy could damage them [8D]

The other plus point was I-26 bravely attacked a naval TF appro 480 miles SW of San Fran. The DD Helm was hit by 2 torpedo's and quickly sank. The sub escapred unharmed. Well done but a shame she didn't a more valuable ship!

Other than that just the usual bom,bing of Manila by me and my forces bearing Palembang, IJA units at Pagan by Nik.

Dumbass was expecting results bombing at night at 22K??!!! [:D]
I was expecting him to bomb at a more accurate height (9-12K) hoping the cloak of darkness would shield the bombers and allow a few hits. Hopefully he'll get it right for Manila. (Singapore is about to conduct a Banzai attack) Least it shows that night bombing 'can' be used as an alternative albeit a hit or miss one.
4E's will probably still need to be house ruled.

Singapore is a tough cookie .. its a fast japanese advance compared to my game ..
AH BTR .. i loved that game .. as germans upgrade the night fighters to (forget name .. He 217 ? ) heavy gun armed twin engine thingy and use them during the day .. thay eat B17's for lunch. although timing them is a royal pain the backside [:D]
I never played that game PBEM .. must be great fun ..

Yes....given the pending changes to SRA flak settings, i'm going to sacrifice it too allow Speedy to move on. PI will continue as a siege given it really did historically and Speedy has similar numbers of troops there to my own.
BTR is a hoot....when butt-cheese sends me a turn that is....which is rare these days. (he's busy with his new Russian Gymnist blow up doll) [:D]

well, its all about having fun and feeling like one is playing the actual war....not about "just winning" so i'm happy to sacrifice Singapore. Besides, as a testbed game, its also about finding the kinks and ironing them out. SRA flak was disorganized and weak allowing the Japanese to use their favorite tactics like low level strafing. So with the next version they will (hopefully) get their "happy time" but things will be different out on the frontier. Thats the value of playtesting. I hadn't factored in the "careful retreat" combined with adequate supply levels would result in the ENG and AA units getting stronger and stronger over time. Thats part of the necessary evil of abstracted supply and replacement....Ironic though.....the flak has produced a more historical situation in the PI which was a month's long siege....though granted, the Japanaese initially didn't bring the force levels necessary to finish the job quickly.
In other mod news.....did a good scrub job on the mod yesterday sync'ing up the Grand Campaign and 42A scenarios, fixing some old boo boo's in regards to ship flak. Zero tweak appears to be working well....and took a stab at the UK carrier issue....and wished i hadn't aiee.
Having been "Midway"'d in the AI 42A test scenario i'm having the most fun i've yet had in an AI game [:D] Now i know how Yamamotto felt.

2) you got midwayed by the AI too.
Ummmm and im playing a mod you invented ! oh h*** c*** what have i let let myself in for [;)]
Its a real shame we cant upgrade mid game .. bad feature that one ( unless in official patch) actually thinking that .. could you arrange your next (final) incarnation to be like a patch we could install over the current build ? just a idea ..
