Sit Rep of 4/2/1942

This is a 5-days report. After the operation agains PM that failed, nothing much happened during the last days.

Southwest Pacific
I've reinforced the air power in Rabaul to hit hard PM. I'm trying to occupy the bases in the NG and the allied aviation operating from PM were very dangerous.
I landed troops in Vella Lavella, the last island that is not yet in my hands.

Malaya
I'm continuing reinforcing the beachhead at Johore Bahru.

Australia
I noted movement between Darwin and Timor. My planes attacked Darwin airport hitting 2 SS. In the last attacks I didn't spot any SS.
I moved at least 1 squadron of Hurrican there. They will be fierce opponent for my Zero.

Philippines

After the fall of Bataan, my troops are seizing Manila and Clark Field. I'm sure it'will be tough to conquer them. Any suggestion from you people?

China

The chinese arty in Changsha is causing me a lot of casualties: at least 400 per day.

DEI

The fighting in Kuala (Sumatra) is very hard.
I landed troops in Menado (that I think I will conquer the next turn), and in Makassar.
There I need reinforcement because my troops are not strong enough.
From the conquered Banjamasin my planes have started to fly recon mission over Java.

South Pacific

My subs continuing to operate in the Fiji zone. For the second consecutive day, one of my SS torpedoed an allied DD.
The US landed in Nanomea, that I occupied only with 100 men some days ago. Anywere they resisted to the first allied shock assault.

SW Pacific

The air raid agains PM are going well. Today I destroyed 11 aircraft on the ground, loosing only 1 Nell.

Australia

Over Darwin my Zero shot down 4 Hurricane. I've lost 1 Nell.

Malaya

I started the attack against Johore Bahru. I've lost over 3800 men against 1300 british and my engineers reduced the fortification to 6.

DEI

At Kuala the defenders surrendered. I captured 1176 dutch soldiers. Now all the northern Sumatra is in jap hands.

Our troops have attacked and occupied Mandalay.
In Menado we encounter some problems.
I gave order to attack but my troops don't follow my order.

The US are continuing to land troops in Nanomea. I've sent some Zero to attack the atoll. They scored a couples of hits on the airport but they find any ships.
The US also recaptured Nukufetao Atoll. I had no troops there.

From Amboina I attacked again Darwin and I shot down 7 of the 9 Hurricane on CAP.

I decided to land in Palemband and the allied attacked immediately my ships at anchor, scoring 2 bombs hit on Kongo, 1 bomb hit on the BB Haruna and on the CA Kumano. I have to organize a sort of LR CAP over the zone.

Another attack agains Clark Field has been repelled.

Today I started to raid Batavia afld. I didn't encounter good success, but the time to target Java is come.

Anyway until I have so much troops engaged in Luzon, it's not a good idea to attack Java.
I started also to bomb Clark Field. Maybe he will use a lot of res to repair airfield and the defense will drop a little bit. What do you suggest guys? I really need a counseil about this problem.

My air raids against Batavia are not going well. Today I lost 3 Nell against 3 dutch fighters. I have to send more fighters to escort the bombers.
Batavia is coming more dangerous every day. Today the dutch a/c scored 1 more bomb hit on Kongo.

Finally Menado base has fallen. I captured there more than 1600 dutch soldiers.
I conquered also Macassar, capturing 1959 prisoners. So the entire Sulawesi is in our hands.

Another assault in Johore Bahru drop the fortification to 5. The losses are heavy (1877 against 1073), but I have no choice.

Still waiting for suggestion about the better way to take Manila and Clark. Does anybody have an idea?

Does anybody still read this AAR?
I feel lonely [&:]

Ok, today the raid against Batavia result in a loss of 2 Zero and 1 Nell vs 7 enemy a/c. The ratio is definitely not enough.

In a port attack against Darwin, mi a/c hits with 1 bomb each 3 US DD, but air losses are heavy: 1 Zero and 3 Nell.

In Johore Bahru nothing to do. The assault failed.

In Burma the 55. Inf Div took Lashio. Now the troops need some rest.
The other troops are marching in direction to Akyab, very quickly: 2 miles per day!!! [>:]

It's also time to organize better the air campaign against Java. At this purpose I'm transfering some BF to Singkawang.

I'm sending reinforcement to Palembang, where there is a stalemate.

The Hurricane are in Akyab. I've lost 3 Sally over there. Now I put some fighters as escorts.

The air battle of Batavia continue. Air losses of today: 1 Zero, 2 Nell vs. 9 fighters and 1 bomber.

I have to do something in the SW Pac area.
I have troops loaded on to ships since weeks and they are usefull there. The KB made refuel and is now ready to fight. She were in the Coral Sea last week, but the Big E was hiding.
Will see this time.
Port Moresby is always dangerous for my sea lane there. I have to take under control this threat by using a lot of bombers and res at Rabaul.
To end this problem I could land in Port Moresby. Or maybe at Noumea. I don't know yet.
I have to make a lot of recon before decide.

I've been reading this ever since we agreed to start a PBEM - hoping to get some intelligence on the enemy. [:)] Feel free to tell me to stop, though.

Although, you do seem to be playing our game much more aggressively than this one.

I'm beginning to see that. If my suspicions are correct, I'll have more data on what you're up to in a day or two.

Did any of your damaged carriers in this one make it?

Burma

The allied aviation in Burma comes more dangerous day by day. I have to bomb Akyab more strongly but I don't have much a/c to do it.
Today 2 Hurricane abd 1 P-40E destroyed, but I've lost 2 Sally and 2 Babs.
Not much damaged inflicted at the airport.

DEI

The aviation campaign agains Batavia: I've lost 2 Nell. The dutch 5 fighters.
Only 12 Zero to escort the bombers against more than 20 enemy fighters are not enough. I've to improve the number.

I've started also to bomb Sorebaya from Banjarmasin. The dutch lost 2 fighters and a dozen of bombs on the runway.

The troops landed in Palmebang are waiting for the landing of another units to launch the final assault.

Now I have also to start the numerous small landings onto the dozens of small islands between Java and Australia.

New Guinea

PM is still operational, despite the numerous raids. Maybe I'll try to decrease the altitude of the a/c during the bombing. Maybe thay will be more effective.

China

I abandoned for the moment the effort to contrast the AVG. Too much a/c lost. Adi is continuing bombing my troops but the results are poor.

Malaya

I decided to send strong reinforcement to Johore Bahru to close the game. I'm loosing too much time. Maybe I'm limited for other operations by now, but I'll have more free units sooner.

Nothing much happened today.

DEI

I landed at Raba I. The invasion of the small islands begun today.

Reinforcement have arrived in Palembang. I hope they will be enough to conquer the base.

The reinforcement of the Zero for the air campaign against Batavia proved to be effective: only 1 Nell lost, against 4 fighters and 1 bomber,

SW PAC

Landing at Emirau I.

MALAYA

The fortification of Johore Bahru reduced by another 2 points, lowered to 4.

BURMA

My aviation is in difficulty. I don't have, for now, enough planes to be effective here.
On the ground I really don't know if I have to attack Akyab. Maybe is a waste of time and of ground forces. What do you think guys? Any suggestion?

DEI

Reinforcement are landing at Palembang.
Raba has been conquered.

Over Batavia I lost 1 Zero and 2 Nell vs 3 fighters and 1 bomber. As always is not enough.

Aircraft from Banjarmasin attacked Pamakasan port. Hit 2 dutch merchant ships.

PI

I'm continuing to bomb Clark Field. He has to use a lot of res to repair the damage of the afld.

SW PAC

1 Wirraway and 1 Hudson destroyed at PM. No losses on my side.
Despite my continuos raid, the allied aviation is very active. 13 Hudson attacked a small convoy in the Solomon Sea without scoring hit. 1 bomber shot down.

Emirau Is. have been conquered.

SO PAC

NW of New Caledonia, KB attacked an enemy surface TF, composed by 7 DD, sinking 5 of theme. Another 1 resulted heavy damaged.

I spotted now another surface TF, SE of Noumea. Recon said it could be 2 CA and 3 AP. I'll go to check it out.

I still have on board ships the 4. Division, with all the support units. Those units are for the invasion of PM but I'm wondering about a landing on the Oz East Coast.

CHINA

Adi transferred 3 chinese division at Lanchow, to stop the advance of a Mongolian Cav Division.
I have 13. and 40. Division besiege Ichang since beginning of war. I've decided now to retire them at Hsinyang.

MALAYA

A ground attack at Johore Bahru has been repulsed.

Sir Rep of 2/18/42

MALAYA

The 2. division arived in Johore Bahru and began unloading, together with 3. Gun Rgt, 5. Mortar Bn and other support units. I hope all those troops are enough to occupy the location.

BURMA

The allied began to strike the Mandalay airport. Poor damage.

CHINA

I'm expanding Haiphong and Hanoi airfileds to start an air campaign against allied industrial sites.

SW PAC

3 Wirraway and 3 Hudson destroyed at PM. No jap losses. This was a good day

SO PAC

23 SBD and 9 Beaufort, escorted by 12 F4F-4, attacked the KB situated NE of New Caledonia. My fighters did a very good job 21 SBD, 6 Beaufort and 9 Wildcat. Only 5 Zero damaged.
The survivors allied a/c attacked my ships and scored 1 bomb hit on BB Hiei, but the bomb hit the armor causing no damage.
In response, I attacked Noumea port. 1 AO and 1 DD sunk and 1 AO, 2 TK and 1 AP severly damaged. 1 Val and 2 Kate shot down.
I also attacked DD Task Force, E of Noumea. 4 US DD sunk and 1 DD badly damaged
