Irrelevant,
I am very familiar with the phrase (and the practice) of "watching paint dry." In fact, I got to watch some paint dry over the past couple days during an exercise.
However, I've never heard the phrase "listening to paint dry." That phrase truly transends the act of watching and goes to the core of useless boredom.
Thank You,
T Rav

RE: (OT) What is the worst computer wargame you ever bought?
I cannot think of a 'bad' wargame that I purchased......
all the ones that I can think of were great concepts, or had some good playability they just were missing that little bit that puts them over the edge. I loved the GNB series...it was just they kept it going too long and everthing became dated. Same with the Panzer General series. Talk about beating a dead horse. PG 1 was perhaps one of the best wargames I have ever played, besides the original PacWar which consumed my youth.
Actually I just remembered one AH Third Reich was a wonderful board game....and hideously implemented in the computer version. Only slightly playable, full of promise....just lost and lacking in the final product

RE: (OT) What is the worst computer wargame you ever bought?
For me it was AH's B1 Bomber. As I remember alls it had was script, no graphics. The only mission you could fly was basically nuke Russian cities. Ah the days of the Trash -80. Not!
RE: (OT) What is the worst computer wargame you ever bought?
AH's (or was it Victory Games...or both, come to think of it)
Civil War.
A board game that worked pretty well on the strategic aspect and should have been able to been done as a computer game; as far as I am concerned, it was a coaster that cost 29.99. Never supported and buggy as heck as I recollect.

What was that lame game on the first Gulf War - Patriot 360 or something like that? Absolute worst dog I ever wrestled with.![]()
Darn thats the name the of that 360 crap ( wouldn't remember its title), it's probably why they went out of business. If that game had of been produced in Singapore, the Dev would have been hung for peddalling dope[:D]

That was its problem. It was supposed to be about EVERYTHING (tm). It came with scenarios covering Alexander's campaigns, the Napoleonic wars, D-Day and Desert Storm, and naturally, fell on its ass when it tried to sit on too many chairs at once.

a real bad one the History Channel put out abot the Civil War......just a fancy arcade game really...........I remember one that SSI put out about Waterloo where you (if my semi old memory serves me right) actually issued orders to your units like "order Marshall Ney to attack the hill 1 km to his NE"......it was real time but the graphics were horrible in that the soldiers were little stick men lookin' outfits!

Yeah - that one (the Civil War one) was bad. [:(]
Worst one i got was called "Under the Ice" (a modern sub warfare "classic"). Well, the worst one i had that i could actually get to work.

RE: (OT) What is the worst computer wargame you ever bought?
I have 2 entries for the worst wargame ever. The first is the worst wargame of the last millenium (imho) and that HAS to be Patriot by Three-Sixty Pacific. The game as released was unplayable and even after a huge patch effort, it never was worth the bytes that were wasted on it. The second is worst (war)game of this millenium (imho) and that would be a tie between the recently released Age Of Empires III & Stronghold II, both suck and are poor follow-ups to their older siblings. Both suffer from much the same problems, they implemented great graphical improvements, but allowed gameplay to suffer. Crapola in my book!

RE: (OT) What is the worst computer wargame you ever bought?
My most disappointing computer game would be AH's Rise and Fall of the Third Reich. My friends and I just wore out the board game version since we were always playing it. The computer version was just useless and a waste of the money and time put into it!

RE: (OT) What is the worst computer wargame you ever bought?
Similair to Mark VII, I loved the board game "squad leader" and so was excited when the computer game came out.
I expected something at the level of the close combat series mixed with X-Com, but it was unplayable without a manual or a decent tutorial even.

RE: (OT) What is the worst computer wargame you ever bought?
Gack, forgot the "Third Reich" one; I can't believe how bad AH was in the computer game market. At least in cornering the market in crap they were tops. As far as trying to replicate the SL/ASL system, the Combat Mission series did a pretty good job of covering that game/genre. Nothing like having some SMG squads hiding in rubble/buildings only to open fire on the enemy as they cross the street.....
