RE: holiday war movie - Battle of the Coral Sea

Post by Nikademus »

Given Rabaul's strength, I had to make the reluctant decision to withdrawl Fitch's carrier group while they were still intact. A shame as they were perfectly positioned to finish off the three crippled Japanese carriers slowly making their way back to Truk. I'm trying to move some subs into intercept position. Meanwhile PM continues to attack the withdrawing Japanese.

Epilogue

Well, hardly the best executed invasion but ultimately a successful if costly venture. Don't think i'll be getting any medals.....hopefully i'll miss the courtmarshall. [:D]

Gili Gili retaken, 2 CV's lost in trade for 1 enemy CV confirmed sunk + 3 more crippled and out of action for the forseable future. CV Saratoga has arrived to reinforce my two remaining carriers. Facing me are up to three enemy CV's (Shokaku, Zuikaku and Junyo + a couple CVL's) Fairly even odds. Coupled with the massive Japanese plane losses, i'm confident that PM can be held.

We now return you to your regularily scheduled Pommie AAR... [;)]

Hi all,

Over the 25th and 26th February Festung Singapore's gates creaked. The scum hole will be mine soon, very soon....

Here's the attack on the 26th:

Ground combat at Singapore

Japanese Deliberate attack

Attacking force 113224 troops, 899 guns, 400 vehicles

Defending force 63951 troops, 266 guns, 17 vehicles

Japanese assault odds: 3 to 1 (fort level 4)

Japanese Assault reduces fortifications to 3

Japanese ground losses:
2107 casualties reported
Guns lost 50
Vehicles lost 12

Allied ground losses:

Surprisingly Palembang did not fall as expected but it will soon:

Ground combat at Palembang

Japanese Deliberate attack

Attacking force 15202 troops, 118 guns, 0 vehicles

Defending force 4301 troops, 36 guns, 1 vehicles

Japanese assault odds: 1 to 1 (fort level 0)

Japanese Assault reduces fortifications to 0

Japanese ground losses:

Guns lost 6

Allied ground losses:

-------------------

The usual bombing occured at Manila and Singapore with the Allied flak proving terrible at Manila, even at 22,000 feet. I lost over 10 Sallies in 2 days..........

-------------------

SS I-157 was prowling on the west Indian coast and stumbled into a large convoy of AK's and TK's with numerous escorts. Several British escorts located my sub and 5 DC's hit home. She is returning home for repair.........

-------------------

I do have plans afoot but with Nik watching I can't disclose.......

A VERY INTERSTING piece of info was reported by a sub deep in the Pacific 100's miles north of PH:

SBD Dauntless sighting report: 1 Japanese ship at 113,54 , Speed 11 , Moving West

Very interesting indeed............

no...once out of sync...you need to do those steps to get it back into play. Your using 1.602? uh oh...well i'm using 1.795. There's also been talk that straffing missions can cause an out of sync but i can't confirm it as of yet.
