One of the numerous CS convoys supplying the logistical hub at Panama. The smaller and older merchant classes Don Bowen so thoroughly researched are not "front line" ships and are best suited to these backwater routes. Bill has been poking around with some I-boats lately so some escort is not just routine but necessary. Small escorts like CGC Nemaha are ideal for this.

The weather is "Thunderstorms" in the Japan zone yet the ASW AIR SEARCH picks up 5 of the 6 subs I have in the entire area! Please fix. It would be a shame if the excellent job done on the surface ASW was diminished by this air ASW issue. Is it possible to just lower the base Detection Level of subs drastically or is it already at the lowest? [:)]

This is going to sound weird but the sync problems we experience in PBEMs are becoming less of a problem for me as the results only skew the Allied report and are relatively few and far between...maybe 1 in 10. Also, the results are only different regarding a portion of the replay (don't know why but just running one game seems to have minimized the scope and frequency of it). End result? I've found that it actually ADDS to my enjoyment of the PBEM because of the added FOW. One just has to make sure to check the Japanese report any nice opponent will send with the turn after each replay.

A little back ground info: [:D]

As you can tell by the name I started this game out as allies. I have been a gamer for about 27 years now. My first game was Midway by Avalon Hill. I have played World in Flames mostly as axis and have taken North Africa with the Italians on a 1:2 odds attack.[:D] Can not wait for that game to come out.

I love this game since I have 7 different games going at the moment. 5 as Japan and 2 as Allies. The information I will be posting will be from the turn 02/05/42.

Same here ! .. although the 1-2 north africa attack ( cairo? ) .. was a bit lucky .. imagine the weeping and gnashing of teeth if that happened in witp [;)].. and the 'its all wrong' crowd getting hung up on one lucky attack [;)].

Looking at these results (damaged aircraft due to flak) I'm not sure there is a flak "gap" or whatever. Seems effective to me. Anyway, considering the brutal ops losses caused by damaged aircraft over long distances (no emergency landings) if flak is a little weak, the ops losses make up for it.

The supply level at Port Moresby the very next day! As soon as I saw this I realised that this flawed design feature was never addressed. Sad when the player is stuck having the AI on his/her side. What a service. Can't fire it...must be a governmwent civil service position.

So, all that effort slowly bringing in supplies to PM, at the cost of one AK (SS American) and many crew, completely wasted by the AI. And presto, the supply moved in one turn, over the Owen Stanley Range no less! Worse, Buna is going to be captured so there is no point in bringing in more supplies. So, not only do I think there is to much supply in the game, but the darn game steals supply and gives it to the Japanese on a platter.

This needs to be addressed. The only thing I can think of is a UI addition that allows the player to chose between having a base be open to accepting supplies or not via a Yes/No toggle on the base screen.

Yep, hate when it does that. I have complained about that since day 1. AI sucks supplies to wherever IT wants it, not where you want it.[:@]

Does the same thing with resources and oil. Can not keep it in any one base and usually it will move it to some faraway no industry having base in Northern Japan. And then you have to ship back down again only to have it flow back north again.[:@]

However as you know (i think) no airgroup will ever fly 100 percent unless what?....... (fill in the what) It must be range of an AIR HQ!!!!!!!. Now in SRA the Japanese start on top of Air HQ and so they fly but there is not a single Allied Air HQ so no Allied group ever flys 100 percent.
Since you don't mention any data on fatigue or morale or leadership I'm guessing you don't consider these as important either. But if all these were at 100 then still only 75 percent of your aircraft would fly. But 35 percent flew so I'm guessing the other factors combined to reduce flights by another 40 percent. So all airforces in the world would only send 5 bombers when that was the max they had ready. (A ready aircraft is not just an aircraft in condition to fly it has to have all the other requirments met as well to be "mission" ready

Supply movement. Have you considered changing HQ to SW Pac and moving HQ there?
This would pull supply towards PM rather then sending it out. Don't be afraid of losing HQ it returns if lost.

Weather. Weather is PREDICTED by Zone not by HEX So if it is Thunderstorm in Central Pacific it only means there is a chance for a thunderstorm in that zone. Most hexes will always be clear no matter what weather prediction is.

I think the way it works is my TF will always be in clear weather if subject to enemy air attack. My airfields will always be clouded over if enemy in range and enemy TF always have clouds over them.

It's Tarakan...look at the levels on the map providied for Feb 1st...over 16.000 (loads of supply). Exploit? How do you mean...I stand down the groups the turn they transfer so no bang/zoom time travel compression oriented air missions by transferring squadrons occur.

I'm not always saying there is a bug present. I have often shown a dislike of many aspects of the design. This is one of them. The manual can be quoted endlessly but this is moot as I'm saying the design is unwarranted/off/flawed...whatever. People shove the Bible in my face...does not mean I have to agree with it. I also don't buy into the latest explanation of morale being mission readiness of aircraft...this white wash became popular to explain away the questionable morale driven design when it came under criticsm. As an explanation it is a pretty good one and I'd buy it because it actually makes some sense, but it is obviously not the intended design because why then would we have "damaged/repairing" aircraft?

No guarantee this will work given the supply square dance I experience in Luzon and Java...and anyway, it does not fix the issue. The supply dance in Luzon for eg, 2 HQs in Manila and huge poirtions of supply randomly move among my 4 free bases every turn or so. I have no idea what is going on and I doubt very many people actually do.

Gee, maybe Bill is not a gamey player or an idiot. Taking too much too fast is overly risky if one wants to preserve naval assets.


Here is another example of this erm....phenomenon. Pomala is not even a base but only a potential base yet it has had a large AK worth of war materiel shipped to it for storage. Hey Bill! I grew some torpedoes at Kendari at the torpedo plantation and have stored them for you...come and get it.[8D]

A damaged aircraft is one that will not fly regardless.
Morale and Fatigue have been known to be aircraft as well as pilots since UV design phase. (It is not an invention to explain after the fact but has always been part of calculation to see if an aircraft not otherwise reported as damaged was in condition to fly)

If a group has 30 aircraft and all are listed as ready they still might be in poor condition (shown as fatigue) Aircraft do not abort after take off because of "left engine irregular" in WITP they simply do not take off. Fighters with high fatigue might fly CAP but in cobat the aircraft cannot gain it's full potentional because aircraft engine needs overhaul (it's ready and it flys but it is not 100 percent in combat)
The morale reduction is again made before launch when in reality it would be pilots who turn back before meeting enemy. ( and those that make combat turn back more often)

Of course good leaders get their groundcrew to take better care of aircraft and get the pilots to particapte in missions.

In a game with rules it is better to follow the rules then do what you think makes more sense. The game will follow the rules so you should run your turns to follow them as well.
