Another slow turn.

An allied ASW TF located and ran over I-6 hitting her with 2 depth charges, leaving her heavily damaged but still operating under her own power.

Air strikes in the Philippines concentrate on the defenders in Manilla, wearing them down.

CV launched Vals and Kates hammered the Dutch defenders at palembang, inflicting over 200 casualties. Unfortunately the ground attack failed to capture the port - although the defenses are being worn down steadily.

More IJA airstrikes in Luzon and China claim more enemy troops.

A large allied airstrike from Batavia managed to find 2 IJN AKs all alone at Palembang and manage to land 6 bombs between the 2 ships.

On the ground at Palembang, IJA forces fail to capture the base once more, although the defensive works on the port are failing.

Sub commandos land on Kai Island.

IJA bombers hit Homan airfields, cratering the runways and catching a couple chinese aircraft on the ground.

Allied B-17s and Liberators strike at Moulmein, landing some hits on the airfield there. Oscars and Zeros damage a couple enemy planes, but none are shot down.

More air raids on Manilla claim over 250 men and are aiding in keeping the enemy troops there from resting.

More CV based bombers hit the dutch defenders at Palembang, claiming nearly 200 more men.

Allied bombers from batavia struck again at the AKs unloading at palembang. But this time nearly 30 zeros were there to intercept them. In the brief battle, 1 zero was shot down and they claimed 21 enemy fighters and 4 bombers destroyed. Unfortunatly the enemy bombers managed to complete most of their runs, hitting with another 3 bombs.

An IJN bombardment TF showed up at Balikpapin and said hello to the base there. The 4 ships hit the base and fled. 200 enemy troops were estimated hurt, along with several runway hits.

Another attack on Palembang weakens its defenses more, but the base still lies in the hands of the Dutch.

A deliberate attack on Manilla claims nearly 700 enemy troops and lowers the defenses, but fails to capture the base.

Well an illfated air raid over Homan pits 27 Sonias against 11 P-40B (AVG) and 9 I-16Cs. Needless to say the Sonias were mauled. Over half of the planes failed to return home. The fighter group assigned to fly cover decided they would drink to much sake and failed to show up...

More RAF bombers arrived over Moulmein to hit the airfield there. My CAP actually managed to shoot 1 down this time. It seems Oli wants to hammer my little airfield here but won't mess with the large airfield (with a lot more CAP) at Rangoon... probably a smart move until he can be sure of overpowering my CAP.

More bombings in Manilla continually weaken the defenders there. They can't hold out much longer. My ground attack lowers the defenses to 1 with nearly even losses on both sides - my men are getting tired.

Troops at Palembang bombard this turn while they rest for another attack.

A second load of sub commandos landed at Kai Island and secure the island.

Air raids on Singapore crater the runways and kill some men. This should slow down the building of forts (if not at 9) - it will at least waste some supply.

Another CV-launched raid claims over 200 dutch defenders at Palembang. The ground attack failed misserably with my men not performing very well.

My attack at Manilla destroy the last of the forts opening the way for my occupation of the city.

An air raid at Chungking by 27 zeros encounters a nice CAP of 24 P-40Bs (AVG), 9 I-153Cs and 10 I-16Cs. My zero dove right in... After the battle 5 zeros were lost, along with 5 P-40Bs, 4 I-153s and 3 I-16s. A good battle for me.

RAF Liberators bombed Tavoy this time managing to hit some resources.

My recon planes spotted some allied ships at Funafuti Island. My Betties made a small attack (only 8 planes) but missed both AKs there. The spotted ships (and others) unloaded at least part of the 14th New Zealand Brigade and captured the island against no opposition.

My attack at Manilla was repulsed although the allies took 6:1 losses compared to me.

A fast transport group landed members of the 85th Naval Guard at Samarinda with minor losses - no defenders were spotted.

Some IJN CVs appeared NW of Funafuti Island at dawn, launching a large wave of aircraft at the allied ships there. Nearly 50 Vals and Kates were escorted to their targets. No enemy planes were spotted and the bombers had a field day. The spotted 4 enemy AKs and hit them all with torpedoes and bombs. A followup raid of 15 Betties found no ships left to attack - all 4 AKs were sunk. Unfortunately no men were on them - perhaps supply though.

IJA Bombers hit targets in Manilla causing massive disruption and claiming over a hundred killed. Another attack at Manilla weakens the defenders and losses are even on both sides.

CV-launched bombers struck at Palembang again claiming over 200 dutch troops. Another attack at Palembang reduces the forts to 1.

IJA troops at Samarinda captured the base easily against no enemy troops.

The IJN CVs at Funafuti move to the NE side of the island but fail to spot any enemy ships in range. Looks like the allied navies have left the 14th NZ Brigade to rot on Funafuti Island [:D]

IJN I-153, patrolling west of Diamond Harbor (in deep water), was caught by the DD Norman and hammered to the bottom on the sea. The sub was reported to have been hit with 5 depth charges from a DD busy escorting at least 3 enemy APs. The sub barely managed to get off a report before sinking.

Another air raid on Manilla causes heavy damage to the Fortress there, paving the way for the capture of the city.

Nearly 50 Kate bombers hammer Dutch forces at Palembang opening the door of the port.

My CVs near Funafuti sprinted south and caught a single enemy AK (Empire Bond) near port and hit her with 4 torpedos and 6 bombs, sending her to the bottom quickly. No other ships were spotted.

A bonzai charge into the streets of Manilla (shock attack) routed out the defenders in what turned into a slaughter. The IJA troops wiped out all pockets of resistance and killed or captured nearly 28000 troops. The following units were completely isolated and destroyed in the city: 118th USN Base Force, 91st PA Div, 43rd PS RCT, 1st USMC AA BN, Corregidor M Fortress and the PAF AV.

Now some of those units may still be alive somewhere safe (US or Oz) but it will be at least a year before having to worry about it.

My Brigade at Palembang also had success today and captured the base. They drove the 5 enemy units out of the base... and the best news is they fled north and not south - so they are effectively destroyed. The base is in decent shape - not much damage to runway or port and I have CAP there already. I won't report on the situation of the oil supply yet - but I will say it could have been worse.

sorry for the lack of updates. but there is simply nothing special to report. Xargun has now an ivasion TF 3 hexes away of Kragen. I dunno where it is going. I can do nothing more then sit & wait. I managed to repair some ships that got caught at the PH raid.

air battles have decreased massivly. only 1-2 air battles at all every day. I think his pilot pool is almost dry now - looking at the losses now.

I stopped air ops over burma - the weather there is ALWAYS BAD since 3 weeks now. and we are in march ! no monsoon season ! what will be in May-August then ? Burma becomes an ocean ?

looking at the reinforcement of ships is frustrating too - I get 3 ships in SF in the next 30 days - impressive. I think even the ship yards of Malawi produce more. Will keep you updated in the next days becasue I think Xargun is moving into something big again.

He's baaack... Just been super busy with life and such but I'm back.

Last couple turns have been slow like Oli said with a couple IJN BBs bombarding the heck out of Rabaul. I may be back there to invade soon... or I may not.. I may just be saying hi !! to let them know that I haven't forgotten them.

Not much is going on in China - same lines of combat although I have begun the assault on Yenen - now that I have 1 Brigade behind them completely sealing off the city - with another one almost there as well. Losses will be high on my side to take Yenen, but I have like 10 chinese unites trapped there so it will be worth it.

In PI I am close to taking Clark Field - been assaulting it off and on for about a week and its close to falling. That will force the troops there to either retreat to Bataan or San Marcelino - hopefully they will split and retreat to both - best case would be they retreat to San Marcelino and I can take Bataan easily and open up Manilla's port.

My troops have taken Davao - eliminating all enemy resistance on the island.

Troops have also captured Balikpapan - can't remember the state of the oil / resources there but the base is ready for business otherwise - the allied troops fled into the jungle.

I see Oli is loading some oil (or fuel) at Amboina and some Betties tried to say hi, but missed. Better luck next turn.

IJA troops are pushing into Burma along the rails - multiple divisions are in the front.

Just last turn the damn AVG showed up in China and caught some unescorted bombers - a sentai of zeros were set to escort but never launched. Total losses were over 10 from 2 groups of Dive Bombers - Sonias and Marys.

East of Noumea a lone IJN sub found some friends [:D] The sub surfaced and hammered the AK Iowan with 2 torps and 3 hits from the deck gun (I think - over maybe it was reversed). The sub fled the scene as the ship sunk - and even better - according o the Intel report the ship was carrying a bomber unit from the States !! A-18s I think ... I'll have to check to be sure.

The war is going good. My first set of DD upgrades is finished and they are almost all repaired with the second set undergoing upgrades now.

I will post more later...

I think Yenen will be a desaster. I saw it coming but I reacted too late.

One of Xarguns DD's eat a Mk 10 Mine at Tarawa laid by a Mine TF from Subs. I never thought I would hit anything with them but I already have two hits ! One Mk 22 Mine hit at Kwajalein some weeks ago and now Tarawa - great !

The Sub at Noumea - I was tracking it since a week now...I avoided it always till yesterday.... sooner or later I kill this bugger. Ship name is recored and will not be forgotten. Word has been spread that the Escort / Sub killer who gets this bugger will be handed out the CMH.

Reinforces on the move on all fronts

its still 3/42 and the allies are weak. Time will tell.

1 month of real time was traded for 12 days of game time, we are at a slow pace now, many reasons on both sides od the atlantic are responsible of this.

One of the crippled CV's of his KB is at south borneo. where the other is : I dunno. I torpedoed a ML just east of Palembang, Xargun torpedoed an AK at Kendari. The Sub near Noumea is still active. Xargun crippled 2 Subs of the Sub mine laying TF by Naval Air patrol aircraft. They are crippled but they will live to fight another day. Nothing really happend at all the last couple of turns.

I set up a little air assault trap - lets see how this works out.

Yep. life is busy some times and mine will just keep getting busier. My wife & I found out about a month ago that she is pregnent and this little news is driving her nuts... and unfortunately when the wife is nuts... everyone is nuts. But on the good side, I have acquired a laptop which will enable me to do turns when not home - like at work.

In my game with Rob I can do an allied turn in like 10 mins.. For this game it takes like 50mins and I have to do much more thinking / planning.

Crippled CVs ? What is this you speak of ? I have no crippled CVs [:D] My plans are moving forward... slowly.. but they are moving. It sure takes forever for IJA units to fill out (even in Tokyo with plenty of support and supplies) as well as moving assets around - expecially ground assets on slow transports.

I set up a little air assault trap - lets see how this works out.

Hmm a trap ??? I like traps :) Especially when they get turned on their master.

I have a couple ops in motion.. Two big ones and 1 little one to be honest. Not to mention the IJA push into Burma which is going surprisingly well - no real opposition, despite Oli bombing my newly acquired resources. I have captured a couple Brit bases on the rails in Burma, but Oli has bombed their resources back to nothing and I refuse to waste supplies on resources - especially ones that he can boomb at leisure.

Oli hasn't seen my CVs in some time and they will be seen again soon - probably not where he expects them either. In the meantime I keep looking for his CVs but haven't caught so much as a hint to their whereabouts. I expect them to pop up somewhere on the perimeter, and my Nells / Betties are waiting for him... Same with the RN - they have been very quiet as well.. perhaps they fear the 50+ LR bombers at Rangoon ? I would if I were them. 2-3 torps will sink just about any ship in the game and my pilots are still high quality.

JAPANESE INSIGHT

Well it is march of '42 and I am behind in my conquests. I am planning to much and being to careful. My pilot situation is not good - I have plenty of pilots.. but the new ones are nearly useless. Several of my units are still full of skilled pilots, but I need to be careful with them - thats why the lack of overwhelming air strikes - not gonna waste my skilled pilots on bombing enemy troops... They are better served looking for enemy ships.

My economy is doing well. I am delivering enough oil from the 3 or the 4 main oil bases I have and its keeping me going. My stockpiles of engines, planes and ship points is doing nice - so nice I have even shut down some factories from time to time to conserve HI. My HI pool is slowly increasing, as is my vehicle and armament pools - but these quickly disappear as a new unit or two arrives.

I have very few heavily damaged ships.. but a lot of ships damaged between 4-10 system. These ships are all warships and are needed still. I am working on a rotation schedule to return some of them to the Home Islands for repairs (one BB is at 12 sys just from normal use), but they are needed for my upcoming operations. Once these couple ops are done, they will not be needed for a couple months - unless Oli gets aggressive [;)]

Both of my upcoming Ops will require the assistance of fleet CVs and they (along with support ships) are being moved into position. I am trying to move them slowly and avoiding any known enemy locations so he has no advance warning - sure is a pain avoiding possible enemy locations / subs.

As I said in my AAR with Rob, I have just installed Photoshop and hope to get some screenshots posted soon. But they will have to be edited for sensitive info [:'(]

Xargun tried to sent a bombard TF to Canton Isl. - they bombed a bit rock off theisland and were welcomed by my new minefield - 2 DD's were hit by mines. BOOM ! . The TF fled.

nothing else to report, honestly, this is the most silent week of the entire war. Not even two air combats a day.
