Burma:
RAF B-24s lay mines in Rangoon harbor despite a Sentai of Franks flying night patrol. The Franks did not even engage.
My SC TF arrives at Akyab catching an allied xAKL there and sinking it while receiving no damage. Several enemy TFs are detected at sea, including some RN BBs - most likely attempting to intercept this TF.

Mine Warfare:
Last turn some RAF bombers laid some mines at Rangoon, so the DMS stationed there undocked and cleared 19 mines. There seems to be a few more so they will continue their duty.

Sub Warfare:
My fleeing DDs spot SS Trusty near Rangoon and attack her reporting multiple hits and heavy damage inflicted.

Burma:
The IJN had a great night and day against the British forces up in Burma !!! It started off with my SC TF fleeing from Akyab and being caught near Ramree Island by a surperior RN force. But it was night time and the ships closed to within knife fighting range before detecting each other...

Night Time Surface Combat, near Ramree Island at 53,47, Range 1,000 Yards

Japanese Ships
CL Natori, Shell hits 13, on fire, heavy damage
DD Asashio, Shell hits 1
DD Oshio
DD Michishio
DD Natsugumo, Shell hits 2

Allied Ships
CL Hobart
CL Emerald
CL Dauntless, Shell hits 12, Torpedo hits 3, and is sunk
CL Mauritius
CL Birmingham
CL Newcastle, Shell hits 19, Torpedo hits 2, and is sunk
CL Caradoc
DD Stronghold

Low visibility due to Thunderstorms with 35% moonlight
Maximum visibility in Thunderstorms and 35% moonlight: 2,000 yards

CL Natori took a beating but the DDs were the winners of the fight, nailing two CLs with torpedoes sinking them. And it only gets better... Well a bit worse first, then much, much better.

My ships broke into two TFs, one of 3 DDs and one with the damaged CL and DD in it. The three DDs got caught next near Prome. It is still night time and once more we got within knife fighting range before being detected...

Night Time Surface Combat, near Prome at 52,50, Range 1,000 Yards

Japanese Ships
DD Asashio, Shell hits 1, on fire
DD Oshio
DD Michishio

Allied Ships

DD Van Galen
DD Tjerk Hiddes
DD Jupiter

Reduced visibility due to Thunderstorms with 35% moonlight
Maximum visibility in Thunderstorms and 35% moonlight: 2,000 yards

Another great night combat by the IJN. Vastly outpowered in the fight, the three DDs not only escape with minor damage, but put a torpedo into an enemy CA !!!

As the sun came up, the fleeing CL Natori and her escort are caught and sunk without much of a fight.

Day Time Surface Combat, near Ramree Island at 53,48, Range 7,000 Yards

Japanese Ships
CL Natori, Shell hits 10, and is sunk
DD Natsugumo, Shell hits 17, and is sunk

Allied Ships
CA Dorsetshire
CA Devonshire
DD Van Galen
DD Tjerk Hiddes

Reduced visibility due to Thunderstorms
Maximum visibility in Thunderstorms: 7,000 yards

This is the worst part... the better part is still coming... Can you guess ?

While the British were having some morning tea and congratulating themselves over sinking the Natori the sound of aircraft came from above. It was not friendly. 36 Zeros and 99 Nells attacked during the morning phase and then another 36 Zeros and 77 Nells attacked in the afternoon phase. Our losses were light: 10 Nells were lost; 3 to ops and 7 to flak.

In total we sunk 1 CA and 5 CLs in exchange for 10 Nells, 1 CL and 1 DD. Multiple other cruisers were hit with torpedoes as well as a lone DD. Overall a wonderful day for the IJN surface and air. I am not sure if he didn't think I would have LR Torp Bombers in the area and thus didn't send any fighters up? Or maybe he put fighters over other units - I did recon some BBs last turn in the area but didn't see them at all this turn.

Burma:
My lone DMS clears the last of the air dropped mines at Rangoon. At least the ones in the harbor.
The IJA had a horrible day in the air over Akyab. I ordered my 4 Sentai of Helens to bomb the port at Akyab after spotting several ships in port there. I had some A6M2 zeros at the same base set for escort, some A6M5cs at Prome set to LR CAP Akyab and 75 Franks from Toungoo set to sweep the skies of any enemy fighters... Good plan right ??? Well it should have been.

My Helens and escort go in first, link up with the LR CAP and run into roughly 100 enemy fighters in the air. My A6M2s get mauled and I lose 7 Helens from the first sentai. Then two sentais of helens come in unescorted and get butchered. But we did land a single 250kg bomb on the CA Dorsetshire. Then the last sentai of helens come in, linking up with the LR CAP again. The LR CAP gets beat up, and I lose another 10 helens but the rest bomb the port hitting CA Devonshire with a 250kg bomb this time, setting her on fire. Then as my bombers were done, the 75 Franks come zooming in at 31k altitude and maul the enemy cap :x If only the Franks had gone in first I would have save 80 or so helens that were lost and probably got much better bombing results.

Welcome to July !! The B2Na Jill came available today - so I have new DBs and TBs being produced. Now we just need to wait for the Sam and the trifecta will be complete.

Sub Warfare:
I-19, on a mine laying mission, spots an enemy AO and elects not to launch torpedoes !!! What ?? Are you kidding me? I am putting it down to their mine laying mission, but otherwise that captain can commit seppuku now and save everyone the trouble.

Burma:
My Franks swept the skies over Akyab again and ran into a horde of P-38s and P-47s flying cap at 42k. Unfortunately my Franks took a beating this time around.

The allied air attack continues on Roi-Namur and after today's attacks there is exactly 1 disabled support squad left on the island...

SRA:
I have been unloading fuel at Saumlaki for a few turns now - it takes forever for AOs to unload, and the allies sent in four DDs to see what was up. The fight started at 2,000 yards and luckily it seems the allied ships did not have radar. We got off the first few shots and crippled one of the enemy DDs. Our DDs took one hit in return and the entire TF escaped.

My troops near Nanning attacked another Chinese Corps inflicting heavy losses. If we don't win this battle soon my troops there will become trapped and cut off.
