Unnecessary Complication

Post by Mehring »

I've never quite figured what was going on on the game settings screen, the final settings never seemed to match what I wanted. But I think I finally just did. It is needlessly convoluted.

Unlike the manual picture, which just features ticks, the in-game screen uses both ticks and crosses which it has just dawned on me, have opposite effects. Why not just have ticks OR crosses like in the manual? When a negative cross field is combined with "non-random weather" is it surprising I keep getting the settings I'm not looking for? Why have a "non-random weather" box. To put a cross to that is like saying "I don't want non-random weather" Isn't "I want random weather" simpler?

Jeez, this kind of thing runs right through the UI I'm afraid- needless complication and time inefficiency.

I agree on the weather bit. Double negations tend to be confusing. Better to call it "Fixed weather" or "Historical weather" or something like that.

My understanding is that the red X is placed in a box when that box has not been selected and it is illegal to change it. This happens once a 2 player game of some kind has been started. This is something that we missed in the manual but I'll add that to the list of things to change in Leo's work on updating the manual.
All understanding comes after the fact.

Great. You know what would be easiest for a simpleton like myself? A toggle between random and non-random weather. I don't think I could muck that up.
