On about May 7, a Mavis pilot's scouting report was displayed "sighted: 1 CV". This was approximately 150 miles NNE of Buna. I smiled to myself picturing a pilot suffering the after effects of too much saki - mistaking the periscope of my submarine for the flight deck of a carrier.
The smile vanished when a strike launch message was displayed from the same hex. Lo and behold, the Yorktown (the Lex was already on her way home after being torpedoed) and her eight DDs were seeing the sights (possibly making a Navy recruitment video?) Needless to say, she was pounced upon in a hurry and shortly was sliding gracefully beneath the waves.
So I got out my glasses and re-read the part in the manual about "react to enemy" - and was reminded of the line from "Jaws"...why are we following the shark out to sea?"
A smile on my face...back to the training table.
