Doubt about terrain effects on combat

Post by voroshilov17 »

Hello,

I am wondering and analyzing the manual in order to study the terrain effects on combat (I think it is explained only in section 13.12).
  • The introduction of that section says that "Terrain [...]sometimes penalizes attacking Land units". But where is that explained?, the rest of the section only explains the "defensive strengths".
  • How are those values (the defensive strengths explaiend in 13.12.1-13.12.5) computed? Those values are multiplied for each type of strength or how?
  • About the same thing, how is this value and the value in 13.12.6 computed in the attack-defense? Where and how is this done?
  • Does those values of defensive strengths (13.12.1-13.12.5) have some real effects? Those multipliers are quite similar (x3, x1.5, x5...) when a unit has multiple types of strengths. I mean, at the end of the day, all units are going to have overall more or less the same defensive strength values right? Some units re gonna have more anti-armor elements, other ones more infantry elements...but more anti-personel...so overall all, at the end, the multipliers should be adjusted eventually according to a mean, right?
  • Finally, as veterans, what is your intuitive idea of using terrain in combat? Use some units preferably in certain terrain...or how? Some tips?

Thanks in advance!

13.12.7 & 13.12.8
  • How are those values (the defensive strengths explaiend in 13.12.1-13.12.5) computed? Those values are multiplied for each type of strength or how?

?? Arithmetic. The benefit/penalty is applied to individual equipment items' strengths as appropriate for the equipment's type.
  • Does those values of defensive strengths (13.12.1-13.12.5) have some real effects? Those multipliers are quite similar (x3, x1.5, x5...) when a unit has multiple types of strengths. ?? Again, what terrain multipliers are applied depends upon what equipment types are in the unit. Units can vary widely in composition.

Generally, go with the best defensive terrain available. However, armored vehicles may not do well in heavily wooded terrain. Especially true for modern tanks with long range guns and advanced optics. They may fare better out in the open.
