RE: Rommel - A great general?

<t> Rommel got promoted above his level of competency. As a Divisional or even Corps commander he was good. As a Field Marshal, he lost sight of operational imperatives, most critically logistics. Anyone who has studied the N. African campaign, or wargamed it, knows how critical the logistics issue ...

RE: Naval Rebasing: Wilhemshaven to the Baltic

<r> Frank needs to add in restrictions for the Western Allies' navies, preventing them from entering the Baltic in a future patch. The RN never attempted a transit into the Baltic because of the hazards inherent in such a move. The Baltic should be a German lake--once the Russian Imperial Navy is ...

Captured Resource Exploitation

<t> I'm playing the CP, and have managed to overrun some resource hexes, in particular "Food" hexes, but I haven't observed a noticeable rise in my food production. I'm presuming that just capturing a resource hex does not then cause it to start producing for you. What requirements must be met in ...

RE: Naval Question.

<t> You know, at least insofar as my own campaign goes, this whole question of the size of the CS Navy just doesn't matter.&nbsp; The first turn of&nbsp;my&nbsp;first&nbsp;game, I attempted a grand sorty of the CSN off of Charleston, hoping to challenge the still-small USN.&nbsp; A royal thrashing ...

RE: Govenor requests, some ideas.

<r> Unfortunately, as has been noted, reasonableness was a noticeably lacking trait in many governors. So long as they weren't openly involved in sedition, there wasn't much that either Lincoln or Davis could do against them, lest the entire state go into revolt.<br/>

RE: Technology Upgrades

Oi, not me. The Union declared Emancipation only a few turns into the game, and I'm now bankrupting myself trying to woo the Europeans back to the Confederate cause. :(

RE: Damage of capturing provinces?

<t> This is probably covered in the rules, but I'm chilling on a slow midnight shift, don't have a printed copy of the rules, and there is no online copy of the rules available (hint, hint) and this thought just occured to me:<br/>

RE: Govenor requests, some ideas.

<r> How about states with "frontier" regions (i.e. bordering on enemy states or regions) have a higher chance of requesting "defense-related" improvements--i.e., telegraph, scouting towers, etc. Let's face it, once Kentucky declares for the Confederacy and South-Eastern Missouri is taken, the state ...

RE: Hex scale in detailed combat

<t> Back when I lived in Washington, DC, I did some touring of the battlefields out that way. If you hit Gettysburg, you'll find markers which show the actual frontage of various regiments during the battle. the narrowness of the frontage is rather shocking. Brigades may have been capable of holding ...

Fort Construction Questions

<t> The only reference I find in the manual to fort construction, is that units may construct either Level I or II forts. I couldn't find anything more detailed than that, though I may be missing something in the Intermediate or Advanced sections. So, here are a few questions:<br/>

<r> Hey Devildog, the USMC primarily served on sea duty and aboard ships during the ACW...there weren't any real field engagements in which the USMC participated, save at First Bull Run--and the Corps' performance there was errrr...less than exemplary. Good, I believe that will fix my problem--sieges have been ongoing every time all three of my games have crashed as well.&nbsp; I've given up playing until the issues are fixed.

General Officer Promotions?

<r> Spent last weekend visiting my Dad, who's recently purchased CoG...unfortunately I'm flat broke until next Friday (monthly paychecks...) so I'm having to wait a week to purchase. <E>:(</E> Question regarding the General Officers: watching my Dad play the first turn of a 1796 game, I noticed a ...
