Re: Overstacking and combat

I know that when defending in an overstacked hex you suffer greater casualties.

Not sure about attack penalties.

It is with great sadness that I am informing you that Robert "Berto" Osterlund has passed away this morning. As the programmer, Berto has been pivotal in the growth of the Campaign Series capabilities and making the Campaign Series games what they are today. Berto and his exceptional expertise ...

Re: I am considering my options in trying CM out ... but re: Cold War

I see I was mistaken. You have clarified (and I found my reading of the advertising screen shot was not correct).

If no one had replied to my OP I was going to delete it, but since you have replied to it ... I will leave it up for posterity to show what an idiot I can be :?

I pulled the plunger ...

I am considering my options in trying CM out ... but re: Cold War

I see from screen shot provided on Matrix site that M113 is not showing data as .50 caliber main armament (but rather 7.62 mm) ...

FLUNK ... FAIL

While I am extremely interested in the topic as US Army Veteran of the Cold War era ... US Army Cavalry Scout (who served time on a M113 in 2nd ACR in ...

Re: For next patch: Programming error on objective for Day 1 of "Week in Mekong"

So many option, so little time. *laughs*

I feel your pain.

A bunch of shorter scenarios representing the Hue battle on a particular day in time could suffice (and be more manageable for you and your team {I do hope you have a team to help you? Otherwise, I grieve for your pain even more}).

I ...

Re: For next patch: Programming error on objective for Day 1 of "Week in Mekong"

For sure, that would be an interesting A Week In to design!

I'm trying to figure out the actual play, as being in such a confined area with the scale, I'm not sure how to make it last a full week.

Though the actual battle for Hue from the US Marines going in to counter the move, to Hue being ...

Re: For next patch: Programming error on objective for Day 1 of "Week in Mekong"

Well, I am not going to quit my attempt at this "Week in ... " over that, as I am having fun with it so far.

For narrative, I imagine this -

Some of the US troops on this island clearing operation committed what could be perceived as a "atrocity/war crime" and a LIFE magazine reporter with camera ...

Re: For next patch: Programming error on objective for Day 1 of "Week in Mekong"

So I was thinking this could be something else (I am definitely running v1.30)...

Could it be this is nothing about how the particular hex is programmed, but rather that there is a programmed EP Award Event that is supposed to occur when the US player succeeds at clearing the last objective on the ...

For next patch: Programming error on objective for Day 1 of "Week in Mekong"

Alright, I am supposed to clear this island south of the base as part of the Day 1 objectives.

But when I took the final objective on the island (far east end of the island), which was labeled with a "1" and a PAVN flag, I immediately got dinged with -1,000 EP penalty ?!?!? :?

Re: Week in Mekong Questions

Hi Jason,

By following the advice to not show labels (except when absolutely needed) I have gotten this scenario to work adequately on my computer.

I am now on T7 of the 420T scenario.

I have a couple questions re: Laagering (looking ahead to what needs to be done by T40 +/-)

For the A company ...

Don't forget that if you can draw their fire before conducting an assault against the position, they won't gain a defensive bonus for not firing or moving. Drawing their fire will remove that bonus during the counterassault.... AND if you assault with fresh units (haven't fired or assaulted), they ...

Re: For future patch: Major typos on EP pop up messages

Ah, I figured it out. It was because I didn't make the dialog(" Notice ",....) unique

I fixed it with dialog(" Notice 1 ",..._)

Glad to hear you could figure it out.

Do note that this was not just about the 82mm mortars in this scenario (it was also same issue about the VC Recoilless Rifles ...

Re: For next patch: Major programming error on EP allocation for this scenario

I suspect that there is a typo/mistake in the programming code for victory point locations in this scenario.

I was initially put on edge regarding this when around turn 15 or so I was confronted with a message along the lines of "Hey! You haven't taken Hill 65 yet! Send all your forces to take Hill ...

I'll remedy that. Thank you!!!!
I don't think the points are correct ...

The 200 points given to the VC changed my hard earned draw (nearly Allied minor victory) into a Minor Allied Defeat.

For next patch: Major programming error on EP allocation for this scenario

So I just played the "Tale of Two Hills" scenario and found these (irritating to the player) anomolies -

After busting my butt to try to eek out a hard won "Draw" verging on an "Allied Minor Victory" ... I get hit with these two EP awards to the VC player that appear to be completely bogus.

I ...

For future patch: Major typos on EP pop up messages

So I just completed a playing of the "Time Stood Still" scenario.

Through out the scenario, as I (the US player) succeeded in destroying VC 82mm mortars, VC HQ, and VC recoilless rifles the pop up notifications of these accomplishments and EP awards kept saying "For destroying the (VC) X, the Viet ...

Re: Evacuate wounded

Doing as I mentioned via scripting would be the solution.

Having physical body bags on the map isn't appealing.

I agree. You have to balance playable enjoyable game versus gnats toe nail simulation.

I think a truly realistic model of casualties eligible for evacuation (and the means and ...
