Re: LSD's

So the scene in HBO's The Pacific where Sledge is in the ship about to assault Peleliu, that's an LSD?
No, that's an LST.

Can leader skill ratings change during the game?

Does anyone know if leaders can gain experience after the game starts or are their skill ratings permanent?

Re:

Regarding the above photos... The equipment photo shows gear used by the US 503rd PIR. Any idea of the context in which the photo was used? It is interesting that the Chinese boarding the C-47 appear to be wearing captured Japanese tank crew helmets.

Correction: The transport may be a C-46.

Re: Senario editor

Did you create the ship class after starting a game? I couldn't tell from your post. You can make some changes for a game that is already underway but I don't think new ships are one of them. If you created the new class, started a new game & still can't see them, then I don't have an answer.

Interesting post. Useful info on the Langley; also about the Mongolian weather station. There was a 1950s movie about the weather station crew called Destination Gobi.

RE: "Bodyguard of Lies" by Anthony C. Brown

I have it. I used to take a train back and forth to work in the early 80's and it was among the books I read during the period. I don't recall all the particulars but it was an eye-opener about Operation Fortitude.

<t> It looks like a U.S. Mark XIII torpedo. "Trench art" items were commonly produced by guys with machining skill and time on their hands. I've seen submarines and various aircraft in the hands of collectors. There may be no way of knowing who made it or why. It's possible that even if the OP's ...

RE: Anyone know?

I had heard the quote "somewhere" as well. The quote was in episode 23 of "The World at War" at about the 40 minute mark. The speaker was Frank Manson. The episode can be found on several video sites. edit: From other sites, it appears Manson had been an officer aboard the USS Laffey.

<t> An observation: The picture of the Randolph could not have been taken in 1945. The national insignia on the Bearcat wings include red stripes on the white horizontal bars - a revision that was not authorized until January 1947.<br/>

<r> There is an obscure 1979 book about the Nisei who worked as interpreters called "Yankee Samurai". I used to have copy. I specifically remember a mention of MIS men who were attached to Merrill's Marauders. <URL url="https://www.amazon.com/Yankee-Samurai-Americas-Pacific-Victory/dp/0933680112 ...

RE: Question about men "lost in surf" during unload

The actor Eddie Albert was a Coast Guard officer on landing craft in the Pacific during WWII.

A small correction: At the time of his heroic service during the Tarawa landing, E. A. Heimberger was a Lieutenant(jg) in the U.S. Naval Reserve.
