Re: Aphib invasion unload rate

The latest manual describes the Special Japanese Early War Amphibious Bonus (SJEWAP?) as being 1200 for all AP/AK and xAP/xAK types. I wouldn't be surprised if the Japanese AI gets a little boost on top of that.

Re: Always been curious why does the Union get to start with an armored train in the east at game start?

It's probably meant to represent the makeshift "armored" train then Colonel Ben Butler used to help advance the 7th New York, and 8th Massachusetts regiments from Annapolis into Washington past local secessionist saboteurs and irregulars in April 1861. Basically it consisted of a howitzer, loaded ...

Re: Kamikaze vs. Heavy Cruiser

Perhaps it dropped the bombs and then got shot down, but with enough control to go kamikaze.

That's a strong possibility as that sort of desperate tactic had occurred previously in the war before kamikazes were a organized force. Another could be that because of the sporadic shortages of ...

Re: Kamikaze vs. Heavy Cruiser

I recall reading that not a single well-armored surface combatant (cruiser or battleship) was ever seriously endangered by a kamikaze strike. The vast majority of the ships ultimately sunk by them being destroyers and landing ships. I guess that photo shows part of the reason why. There's a lot of ...

Re: Advice Needed: Port Moresby

Unfortunately with all the Japanese battleship task forces steaming around there is no way I am going to be able to reinforce/resupply Port Moresby. It's January 25, 1942 and there are many Japanese task forces heading towards Port Moresby and I really don't have much naval presence in the area ...

Re: Bleach Map mod?

The Iron Cross mod in the other SC titles has the bleached map look. Just move the Iron Cross mod over from the War in Europe game to the mods section of this game. Activate the Iron Cross mod in the Mods menu and you're there.

Re: Where to get extended map and pwhexe files

The only possible usefulness of additional bases would be to represent actual construction sites for ships and departure ports for troops. Something only a historical accuracy fanatic (like me) would do.

If I recall correctly, in that extended map version of the 1128 beta, the US submarines ...

Are you seeing a "FIRES" line in the Tokyo pop-up? Those really rachet up the damage level.

Re: SC Games Graphics Quality on a new PC?

Does your new laptop have a larger screen? Getting a larger monitor did seem to improve image resolution for me even without a new PC. But, then the old one was an antique by the time I replaced it.

Probably the first question would be which particular scenario are you two playing? Just want to make sure weren't not talking about the '45 Downfall one.

Re: Advice Needed: Port Moresby

Lately, when playing against the Japanese AI I've gotten into the habit of prepping Port Moresby for a siege with as many supplies and troops as I can muster in the first few weeks of the war. I also sow as many minefields as I can there along with some ACMs to keep the mines viable. It does seem to ...

I am also a little confused about how the Kamikazes work. I set my USA CVs to intercept, but they do not seem to try to intercept the Kamikazes. My warships also don't seem to use the antiaircraft abilities to attack them. I tried placing Battleships and CVs in front of CVLs and amphibious ...

Re: Defeated units sitting in the jungle

Dutch and UK units that flee into the interior jungles of Borneo usually starve into "dispersal" with time. However, you can speed up the process a little by having your air squadrons use them for bombing practice.

The Daihatsu and Shohatsu barges were your jacks-of-all-trades for Japanese landing operations.

It also helped that most Japanese tank models were light enough to be lowered into a barge with cranes, booms and winches.

Had I realized that I might have left the army there (to do a heroic last stand and go down for cheap rebuy).
Being a port under no blockade maybe it's still drawing supply by sea.

Re: Ship Repair Confusion

You definitely want to get floatation damage down to about 40 with no system damage or chances are good that some of those ships founder on the way to US shipyards. Unfortunately, that usually means months undergoing repair in the shipyard at Pearl Harbor as pier-side alone won't repair the major ...

It's tough for Japan to match what the US and the Allies can spend on buttering up the Soviets if they choose to do so.
