RE: The Immense Pleasure of Huge Wargames

<t> Yeah, keeping my old board games in a damp basement the last decade hasn't been the best storage place. I did bring a few up a couple of years ago, but they are in boxes in a spare bedroom.<br/>

<t> The smaller size escorts are quite useful for those small cargo/transport TFs to small ports where having a small enough TF size is critical to being able to dock. It helps to maximize the number of ships that can carry cargo: a DD is too large for a TF headed to a 6k size port.<br/>

RE: The Final Countdown

The problem with the Nimitz scenario is that the ship has a mandatory withdrawal of 12/7/41, never returns, and costs 20,000 PP per turn to keep. Replacements for its aircraft are also scarce.

<t> Make sure your defending base has radar, which will enable your CAP to be much more effective at responding to the sweeps. A CAP without radar will get chewed up by the Japanese fighters.<br/>

RE: Survey on Bristol Beaufighter

<t> I use the Beaufighter extensively in the strafing role. As has been pointed out the naval strafing opportunities can be somewhat limited, but the ground attack opportunities are not. They're best used against targets which recon suggests don't have a lot of anticraft guns to shoot back, with ...

In using the Japanese Barges, just remember they do not play well with PT-Boats or P-39/B-25 strafers.

A few squadrons of B-29s operating from Armchitka could range far enough to do some really useful damage.

RE: Bombing Japan

The PV-1s aren't really great bombers. They are quite useful in the anti-sub role, an upgraded Army Hudson with radar. They are also good at naval search, as there are never enough PBY squadrons to go around, given withdrawals and needs for for coverage.

<t> Is the base which is used to trigger activation required to be owned by the Japanese at some point prior to 1/1/44? Or can the Japanese just ignore capturing a small (non-Chinese) Allied base within range of Tokyo/Takao/Saigon to get the Kamikazes triggered on 1/1/44?<br/>

RE: Would you trade 200 pilots and a submarine...

As an Allied player, losing one carrier and having another one take a torpedo without scoring any hits on the opponent's carriers is pretty demoralizing, even in mid 43.
