Don't those IJN escorts have a top speed of < 20 knots? So John's TF would be limited to the speed of the slowest ship. Fletchers doing 35 knots would have had a field day.

Since there is a chance that the Soviets may activate, can you comment on what sort of preparation, training, etc. you are doing in anticipation. I'm pretty sure it's possible to do training, upgrades, etc., but I'm not sure what else is possible before activation.

J3 seems to split up the KB into 3 or 4 groups that operate independently.

Is the DS big enough at this date that you could split it in two (not necessarily evenly) so that one DS group would be strong enough to take on and beat one or two of KB's separate groups?

I've run AE through Wineskin on a Mac. It does work but is too unstable for my taste. Random crashes that means you have to start the turn over again. [X(]

The Ume, Kuwa, and Maki are all Matsu-class DEs. Slow. Really convoy escorts, not made for surface combat. They didn't have a chance.
