Re: New Game?

Well, it's not the day before Thanksgiving, but here are a couple of screenshots to show the recruiting and replacement scheme in the game. The first shows the choice the player will have when selecting "Cohortes Novae" in the Exercitus Department in the Admin dialog.

It's just one way to "drill ...

Re: New Game?

Well, the map at full size happens to be 12800 pixels by 7680 pixels. That's probably not what you were really after, though. :)

The game's map basically covers the area from "Hibernia" to about the middle of the Persian Empire and maybe the upper half of the Arabian Peninsula. Here is slightly ...

Re: New Game?

Well, OK, I have been "guilty" of over thinking some things here. It makes little sense to "gather stores" onto warships because the cost of that is already abstracted into the movement rules when there is a lack of supplies in friendly ports. So, I have gotten rid of that and simplified the ...

Re: New Game?

Well, I have a couple of small things to show this weekend.

The first is that I revised the Operational Commands menu for ports and naval bases. Here is how it looks now:

Revised Port Ops Menu.jpg

It's not that much different. I deleted the command for a "remove port" item in order to make ...

Re: New Game?

I agree with your assessment, Orm. It (5,000) doesn't seem like a realistic figure. Pay for the Praetorian Guard is a subject with a few pitfalls, perhaps. I have them at 1,200 denarii per year in the Antonine period. There is a multiplier for higher ranks of about 1.25 for the pay at that time.

As ...

Re: New Game?

OK, so "tomorrow" was about a week long.

I have coded the Ops Command for issuing a Donativum in the field. When the Ops Command is used, the Emperor's current force (only) is paid. For an army-wide distribution, the Administrative Interface must be used.

Here is a screenshot of the ...

Re: New Game?

First off, thanks for your kind words! And thank you for purchasing "my"games. I have to say that Glenn Drover is primarily responsible for the design of the "Victory & Glory" games. I did have some input, but Glenn deserves the lion's share of the credit.

Re: Reinstalling the game, says bad serial???

After looking at my own materials, I will have to pass you onto Matrix/Slitherine's tech support because I do not actually own a retail copy of the game. Meaning, I cannot test the same installation procedures that you would use. Perhaps someone else on the Forum can weigh in with the relevant ...

Re: Reinstalling the game, says bad serial???

I am not sure. Can you provide a few more details? You are trying to reinstall the game from scratch and the installer won't accept your serial number? I will probably have to pass this onto Matrix Tech Support, but first I will try to match your experience on my machine.

Re: New Game?

Good point about the long interval between the Roman Empire and the Napoleonic empire. I haven't studied Napoleonic logistics very much, actually. That's on my to-do list. One thing that I can't help but notice about the Napoleonic period is how much more densely populated Europe was than only a few ...

Re: New Game?

I have cleaned up the typesetting on the previous dialog, but it's not that interesting to see again. But I do have a new screenshot for the effects of ordering immediate supply deliveries. Usually, the bookkeeping is done at the end of the turn, and the player doesn't have to think about it. But ...

Re: New Game?

Well, I haven't forgotten about all of you. I just didn't finish anything up soon enough to post something before tonight.

After looking at the game play involved, I realized that having an Operations Command on the strategy map which also implemented a function of "assign supply deliveries to this ...

Re: New Game?

OK, I retooled the report dialogs for the forts and fortresses a little. These small changes are an effort to emphasize the military nature of fortress administration:

Re: New Game?

So looking forward to this game!

Many thanks for your kind words!

Do the player have any options on how to handle supply for the army when on campaign? Or navy?

Short answer is yes, the longer answer is yes but the naval supply will need to get some modest revision to match what is already ...

So, I have added an extra setting in the Limites settings which allows the player to delegate some authority for maintaining and building defenses.

Re: New Game?

I realized in doing the previously mentioned work that I hadn't actually done the logic for fortresses to receive supplies by water transport. And I noticed that there are some locations which will need access to water transport but don't have it at present. So, I had to do a little map editing.

In ...

Re: New Game?

Well, when I said a week, I guess that I meant a fortnight. :o

I had pretty bad writer's block until this week; I don't know why. But I did make some progress. Here is a revised version of the Limites Department, including most of the summary elements:

Re: Let us now concentrate on Naval Battles

Well, I have looked into the three issues that you have brought up here.

#1. My testing showed this to be a cosmetic issue. The captured French squadrons were improperly converted on the battle board to British squadrons. However, the captures were processed in Constantinople and when the repaired ...
