Re: Merchant tankers

In the TF display, the numbers in the cargo column are still white even when fuel is loaded into the standard cargo holds in barrels. In the example below, the AK Bessel has 1360 tons of fuel loaded into the cargo holds. You can double check by looking at the cargo type in the lower-right corner of ...

Re: Quick Questions Thread

Hi folks,

during my tutorial scenario as republican, I've noticed many LCUs lacking HQ support. Additionally, it seems that every HQ (3 in total) are already overloaded with subordinates. Is there anything I can do?

There is a discussion of this issue on another thread . However, I haven't ...

Re: Is War in Spain a finished product or early access?

As far as I see, WiS has not had an unusual number of bugs compared to other games, especially new releases. There is an issue that some bugs could only be fixed by restarting a campaign with the new version.

I've been playing CMANO/CMO for many years. Periodically, I go back to CMO for a few ...

Re: What will be the next game?

I, probably like many non-Spanish players, had only a general outline of the Spanish Civil War before playing this game. The conflict actually has several aspects that make for a different wargaming experience. Instead of one country attacking another, it involves a single country dissolving into ...

Unable to Refuel AK Hermes

Early in the main campaign, the AK Hermes appears for the Nationalist side in Mogadiso. In my latest campaign, started using v 54, this ship appeared in port with no coal. I have tried refueling this ship both within a TF and from the Mogadiso port screen, but so far the ship's coal bunkers remain ...

Re: 2 bases in same hex 115, 89.

Yes, but only if you upgraded to v 54 before the bug reared its head in a campaign. If the bug struck while running an earlier version, upgrading to v 54 doesn't clear up the problem. It may not be that big of an issue unless it blocks the Calamocha-Teruel railway for the Nationalists.

Re: 2 bases in same hex 115, 89.

I've run into the same bug in hex 115.89, playing Nationalist side using v 54. The Republicans captured this location but then left it undefended. The map shows the base as Republican controlled, but the Hex information display looks more like a friendly base with the name screwed up. I can't retake ...

Re: What will be the next game?

With 5 nm hexes, the game engine would seem to be a really good fit for the Danish/Norwegian campaign of WW2. The land/air/sea aspects of this campaign are difficult to simulate with other games. I remember trying a simulation of this campaign using the Operational Art of War , but there were a lot ...

Re: TF Routing Tip/ TF "Wandering off"

The setting I use almost exclusively for cargo/transport type TFs is Routing Control:Direct , with Coastal added in as appropriate. I add waypoints if necessary in an attempt to steer around threats.

Sure, you want cargo/transport TFs to avoid threats they encounter. But the current avoidance ...

Re: Massive Fuel Stockpile

I did update to v 54 and have continued playing with the fuel stockpiles, since I didn't want to abandon a campaign in September 1936. Interestingly, the huge stockpiles show up as fuel shortages in the Status Report. The numbers may be too large for the memory set aside in certain logistics ...

Re: What hit my ship?

I think "Shell hits" is reserved for guns (including machine guns) and not mines. It must have been a golden BB from the YMS or PB.

Re: Poll - War In Spain

The fix for the fuel-stockpile bug doesn't appear in the v 54 changelog as far as I can tell.

I haven't upgraded to v 54 due to the problems encountered by early adopters. It isn't entirely clear whether players are better off sticking with v 53 for now or upgrading to v 54 and then applying the ...

Re: Massive Fuel Stockpile

I just had something similar happen to me while playing the Nationalist side v 1.65.53.01. At first, I thought it happened during September 1936 in Iznailoz, as mentioned in the recent poll . Backtracking through autosaves, I now see the stockpile first appeared at Albolote during the resolution of ...

Re: Poll - War In Spain

Overall, I've enjoyed playing WiS. It focuses on a conflict that has not been covered that much and therefore offers new terrain and units to consider. Like WitP AE, it has "staying power" in the sense that I can continuously play it longer than other games before needing a break and moving on to ...

Re: Entrenchments!

The maximum field fortification level varies from 1 to 3 based on the terrain (manual sect 8.7). In my experience, LCUs fortify much faster in open terrain hexes (clear/plains/cultivated) than other hexes.

Re: Quick Questions Thread

Thanks.....no oil field there, but it is stockpiling 550 a day, which is enough to run all the refineries

The only place I can find any reference to Spanish Guinea getting 550 tons of oil per day from external sources is the WiS editor (along with 200/day of fuel). Other locations also ...

Re: Quick Questions Thread

Question: There is a large refinery in Las Canarias. And a puny oilfield. Is there any other OIL source available to the Nationalists? It doesn't seem like it.

There are no oilfields anywhere except Las Canarias

There is a decent oil stockpile in Portugal, and some at Masawa for the small ...

Re: Why no ship combat like WITPAE?

The programmer's effort was to put a kind of mini-simulator of naval battles into the game.
Which they will gradually develop and improve.
It's not that bad, let's give it more time.

The naval-battle maps in WiS do have some similarities to those in Rule the Waves 3. With some further ...

Re: Controlled hexes sides.

You can do that yourself in Art/InterfaceWIS bitmap.
There are red and green hexes there and those are used to show the on map hex borders.
Green is hard to see cause RGB 0, 255, 0 is the color key for transparent pixels. A different green is used for to be shown in game.
If you're into image ...

Re: Controlled hexes sides.

I just wish there was an option for using something other than red/green to distinguish Republicans and Nationalists. About 8% of males have some form of color blindness, and the most common form by far is red/green color blindness (including me). Both WitP-AE and WiS cause more problems for me than ...
