I'm interested to know in what ways the WitE1 map is considered to be "better."

As someone in his late 60s, I'm worried about things like font size and contrast--numbers on units, terrain features on the map, etc.

I went to "options" and ticked the 2 boxes you suggested. That got rid of the pink text boxes. I wish the game screen was bigger, though. Or at least the fonts. My elderly retired-guy eyes are struggling a bit. But I hate to change my monitor's resolution every time I launch this game.

I installed the game from my CD and then installed update v1.06.83, which I downloaded from here. Does anyone know how to get rid of the pink text? All text in the game is inside a bright pink block.

I wish I had the space to set up multiple computers. But also, at my age I wonder if it's really worth it to spend hours and hours trying to get old games to work. It's frustrating, and I just don't need more frustration in my life.
