to be fair there is not much point in playing it anymore beside curiosity (in which you can see by trying War Plan Orange). AE is basically the 2.0 patch of the game.

I'd say the only thing that is so much worse in witp is the AI. Don't expect for it to function properly. Otherwise everything is so much better. Especially the theater itself. Air and ship combats are way way more fun because we actually have cutting edge planes & ships. Managing supplies over sea ...

If you want your multi games to last for a long time it's best to just do PBEM.

All I want is a good AI that could react to my move so that I won't have to rely on PBEM to play the game prorperly No waiting for turns, no commitment pressure, playing the game on my own terms

Personally I don't think there will be a WITE3, though I don't have any inside information.
This could be the last we see of this type of wargame for some time that tries to simulate on this scale with historical accuracy.
