Re: What constitutes acceptable air losses?

Who knows how many winning strategies there are...lots, I bet. :)

In 1943, I focus Bomber Command mostly on the Ruhr, Hamburg, Essen, and the like. When groups fall below 75%, I rest them. I send Fighter Command in to cover as much of the routes as possible. And I use 2nd Tac, with their medium ...

Re: What constitutes acceptable air losses?

Throughout the war, I focus Bomber Command on MANPOWER reductions. I designate three targets per turn, bombing the two highest effect MANPOWER targets in medium range and the highest MANPOWER target in deep range (usually Berlin).

In 1943, I use the 8th Air Force to pound U-boat bases and ...

Misplaced my WITE2 License

I don't know if this is the right place to ask for help. If not, I apologize.

Anyway, my old computer is dying and I want to move everything over to my new machine. Unfortunately, I cannot find where I noted the license, unlike WITPAE and WITW. Nor can I find the email informing me of my purchase ...

Re: Jersey and Guernsey

I have no idea if landing there would change German garrison requirements. Wouldn't it be easy enough to start the May 1944 Scenario with you as both the German and Allied players...and see if the requirements change.

As to the how...if I'm playing the campaign game, I would need to free up two ...

Re: static British division in UK ports 1944 ?

I figured out how to unpack the scenario by using 7-ZIP instead of the native Microsoft product.

I inserted the files in the SCN folder of WITW2, and those divisions have 12 movement points. So, out of the way of the channel ports, and more British infantry formations to help Monty out once he gets ...

Re: Alternate Sicily Invasion Strategy (Turns 2 thru 5)

I've not ventured into the world of the editor...seems a bit daunting, to be honest. :)

I wasn't looking for more screen shot, but rather a quick summary of air activity and resulting naval damage.

As to my strategic goal, I aim to trap the German army in the Apennines south of Florence.

After ...

Re: Alternate Sicily Invasion Strategy (Turns 2 thru 5)

Interesting thought of attacking so close to Messina.

How did you provide air cover for the Task Force? I would think the naval losses might prove substantial, and might have consequences for the 'real' invasion when you hit the beaches somewhere on the mainland.

STRATEGIC CONSIDERATIONS

I know this is a very hold thread, and may be the only one still playing WAR IN THE WEST, but the game is still pretty new for me. :)

I would be interested in unzipping this, but I'm getting a WINDOWS CANNOT OPEN THIS FILE and says it is an INVALID F

Re: The New Air Rules that came out March time frame

I don't have any qualms about your basic premise, but I would point out that you can mitigate the loss potential to an extent by increasing the PCT FLY on the appropriate tab(s) contained on the Air Doctrine screen. The 20% default is really a significant factor in decimating your air forces and ...

Re: Arty Unit functionality?

Ok, I inherited a 43 game and I currently have TWO full fronts empty. ZIP, zero, nada units in them. I have another front with 1/2 units in it. When will this "command capacity" hit?

Sorry HYLA, can't figure out how to directly quote you. :)

I've played StB twice, using your excellent 'how to ...

Re: Alekmalek quit WITE2 because of WW1 grinding

I was taken by the idea of retreating to defendable terrain. In small unit tactics, part of the plan is an exit plan if things go belly up.

But what does that mean? It doesn't always mean the best terrain. It could mean maintaining a continuous front, or holding a road open, or almost anything ...

Re: Soviet Anti-Tank Battalions

My comments come from playing STALINGRAD-to-BERLIN.

With the war teetering in the balance, I need to snap the jaws shut at Stalingrad and force the Germans back from Moscow, while reopening rail lines to Leningrad. Beyond that, I need to reshape the Red Army to either take Operation CItadel away ...

Re: Should railing 600k troops all at once from Germany have any discernable impact on your supply? It doesn't (in 1942)

From the Red Army perspective,

The army is deployed fairly consistent with the supply system. Supply is still reasonable near Leningrad though the counter-offensive (before game starts) failed, as well as the Moscow area, and outside Stalingrad. The Northwest and Kalinin Fronts are spread thin ...

Re: First time grand campaign tips? Turn 8

In the campaign game, I've taken to the following

1 - British divisions land as scheduled near Nota
2 - Cancel airborne drops
3 - Strip 5th army by transferring US VI Corps to 7th Army, and British V and X Corps to 8th Army
4 - Ship US V Corps from England to Africa, and all US ground ...

Re: Separate Tank Battalion versus Separate Tank Regiment

I did a peek at Stalingrad-to-Berlin

Battalions = 11 T34, 20 T61, 5 KV1
Regiments = 23 T34, 16 T70
Brigades = 32 T34, 21 T60, plus other support elements

Regiments over battalions (no cost?)
Brigades over regiments if I can spare the points

I start scrapping the battalions once I have enough tank ...

DEPLOYMENT OF HQS???

I'm playing StB, and have questions on placement of HQs bhind the MLR as it creeps westward.

Re: General Questions

I store all SUs at STAVKA ... sitting on the Moscow NSS ... and assign them based on need.

I also send the most heavily damaged corps to the Moscow NSS. At one point I decided to move STAVKA one space to allow for three corps. I could swear I saw a much slower recovery time for the SUs. (Is that ...

Now I can send General Fedyninski down to take charge of breaking over the Narva and creating even more unpalatable choices for the Germans.

SOVIET 42ND ARMY HQ IN LENINGRAD

I can see the HQ when I look at Leningrad Front's assigned units, listed as "cf 42nd Army".
And I can assign and retrieve units from the HQ. But I cannot see it, or move it.

I think I read, somewhere, how to so designate a unit...like to a fortress. But I cannot ...
