I had that exact problem, there is nothing about how to use the exit hex and the retreat hex is easily mistaken for it. I found this very frustrating. <img src="mad.gif" border="0">

I downloaded the small arms graphics and placed it in the shape file and from then on the game kept crashing. When I put the old shape file back it was fine,but I'm going to try again.
