RE: Being unlucky with CVs

<t> I am the opponent of Ursa in this game. First I thought that he did not have any reaction set. But this was not the problem. The real problem for him was that I spotted him, but he did not spot me. My CVs were around Lunga and remained unspotted for about 6 days! <br/>

RE: Japanese Anti-Sub Strategies

<t> Those APDs are great! Most have an ASW value of 10. What I do is I organize my ASW groups around a DD + an APD. Then add more PC/MSW/PG types to the TF. Good leaders also help a lot. Of course having a lot of AC on ASW at 1000 helps a lot in spotting those subs.<br/>
I also like to add an AV ...

<t> It would be much easier to implement if Naval attack would not attack ships at bases at all. If you want to attack ships at base, you could use Port attack and if you want to attack ships at sea use Naval attack. <br/>
Of course this way Port attack would target docked and not-docked ships as ...

RE: Wow I'm Impressed with Wii

I dislike consoles in general, but I am thinking about getting a Wii. It would be nice to have a golf match in front of the TV instead of watching some silly series. I also spend a lot of time in front of the computer and getting some exercise along with some entertainment sounds pretty good.

I am using FF 1.5 (though I think I will upgrade quite soon to 2.0). Have not met any site that did not work with it.
For Office stuff, there is OpenOffice, does most of the things MS Office does, but for free.

RE: Game Mechanics Tips for Non-Historical Japanese First Move

Tweaking the PH attack: by all means set primary mission for all bombers to naval attack in case the enemy CVs show up. You can also send PH and hit another port (Singapore or Manila), just agree with your opponent before on this.

RE: Game Mechanics Tips for Non-Historical Japanese First Move

<t> You can test it out easily by running the first turn in hot-seat mode. I also test the 1st turn in PBEM games, to check that all TFs get where I want them. <br/>
<br/>
There is one VERY important trick: TFs must be idle and not loading anything, otherwise they will get nowhere. When you load ...

RE: Looking for Good Graphics Software

GIMP is nice and it is completely free. It is not harder to learn than Photoshop and there is also a mod that makes it work/look like Photoshop (if you already know PS).

RE: Scenario

Guadalcanal really is the only scenario that is close to being balanced. Allies have LBA advantage while IJN has CV advantage. AC replacements for both sides are quite low, so this make players cautious, which is a good thing.

If you have the BFC version, then you have to wait a bit...
For the Matrix version there are no patches yet.

You may be able to do it by altering the picture file, but I doubt that you can make it transparent.

<t> Playing allied early on can be fun. You must delay the enemy wherever you can. Let the japanese get over-confident and reckless then hit back. Change your tactics, change where you defend and try to cause as much trouble as possible. <br/>
