The fact is that later in the game you will be able to use the same tactics yourself assuming your opponent is still playing. Did you set up any 'house' rules ?

USS California Sanfrancisco 4/42 upgrade started

I'll be out that way early July for Origins this year ...

I dont watch fatigue as much as I do unserviceable a/c - in general if @25% of a/c are 'down/ then I rest the group/sqn

By Dec 42 it doesnt matter anymore - all Brit DDs gone even if you worked at preserving them. From then on its a 300 pp tax every month you get a w/d unitil more show up late 43.

Quite frankly no reason not to allow US DD to substitute.
