RE: Battle at Rabual

Post by jeffs »

To make things easier to read, I will only copy the interesting battles. 3 zeros whacking an empty island do not count.

For the last 2 days, virtually nothing...

The minor bits...
Small air skirmishing in China.
Some of my PH survivors at LA. Others moving to Seattle..
The really messed up BBS should get to SF in 4 days.

Cenpac being beefed up with AA units... More air units on the way

Pensacola waiting nervously at Tulagi for flooding to go down...Now at 39...Really needs a full week I think.......

Lae was taken...My Hurricanes and Beauforts just watched and drank afternoon tea.

He is slow taking some Western DEI open ports..Not much I can do there.

Has stopped Sing air attacks... That or just massive rain fronts have interfered..

No new land movement in China.

Jahore under attack....
Ground combat at Johore Bahru

Japanese Deliberate attack

Attacking force 74634 troops, 811 guns, 232 vehicles, Assault Value = 1568

Defending force 27369 troops, 231 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 586

Japanese max assault: 1436 - adjusted assault: 888

Allied max defense: 549 - adjusted defense: 485

Japanese assault odds: 1 to 1 (fort level 5)

Japanese Assault reduces fortifications to 4

Japanese ground losses:
1197 casualties reported
Guns lost 46
Vehicles lost 5

Allied ground losses:
531 casualties reported
Guns lost 41

Not much can be done about it[8|]

He is big into limp air attacks on Borneo...As long as a couple of Bettys attrit, I am happy to be attacked
Day Air attack on Tarakan , at 33,61

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 23
G4M1 Betty x 16

Japanese aircraft losses
G4M1 Betty: 3 damaged

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Day Air attack on Tarakan , at 33,61

Japanese aircraft
G4M1 Betty x 3

Japanese aircraft losses
G4M1 Betty: 3 damaged

Runway hits 1

I am generally pleased at my lack of damage. He is taking stuff, but none too quickly.....

Cenpac being strengthened..Am thinking about beefing up PM, but I think I need to wait a month to be confident..Moving more stuff into NM (seems to make more sense...Need to build that up to level 4-5 forts by end of Feb......

Looking for another really obnoxious potential air attack in a couple of turns..But not sure..Need to confirm what support/supplies are at the base...[/font]

Same old song

Post by jeffs »

Jahore about to fall...

A small convoy taking out base troops took some pain at Singapore. But some ships will escape...

Pensacola 96-16......A couple of more turns and I can make my escape...

Starting to beef a PM a little...I know if he throws the kitchen sink at it it is a goner but I want him to burn up the time...

LBA and fighters flow into PH...Now being sent into deep cent pac and NM....NM starting to build up.

Day Air attack on TF, near Singapore at 23,50

He has moved into Pagan..Slowly he is infesting Burma.

China still quiet...Small airbattles, so not a perfect truce but I have seen no LCU movement on his part and my frontline troops and more importantly mobile reserves are pretty set. If he does not make a big push, I will let it lie there for quiet some time.

AA Hell for Japan, More reamage at Mandalay

Post by jeffs »

My AA did a great job of blowing up mediocre Japanese planes with 28 falling (27 by flack) only 3 were Betty/Nells though..[8D]

He landed at Kuching...My guns actually hit a few ships..None will sink, but given how weak Kuching is, not bad....

He sent another unit across the river to Mandalay and with fort levels up it took even more pain than the other unit...One division being airlifted in, 2 other division will arrive in a day or 2...

Also he seems to have a bunch of CAs south of Rabual...My guess is they are going to GG...In any case I am sending my CA/CL fleet to look for some trouble....

Nice going at Clarke field ! .. that will make you last a lot longer here.

Only bad idea of operating torp bombers from the PI will suck up supply you might need later on .. iirc the TIV's being FP might use less supply than beauforts .. but i may be wrong though. also they operate well from Manilla .. only need a level 2 for them rather than 4 iirc.

As for getting gamey 'nuggets' from singapore ,, don't worry if he's using empty PI bases for training .. well seems fair to me .. might be worth sending a BF nugget to australia rather than india as you will need AV support there much more that India.

Yup AA in Nik mod really teaches japan the differance from armoured and unarmoured A/C .. not only the old DB's but Lilys will drop out of the sky before he upgrades them to helens or sallys.

also much better now you don't just cut and paste the entire combat report.. much better presentation . nice

ooh almost forgot .. good luck !

sorry for the spelling . English is my main language , I just can't type . and i'm too lazy to edit :)

I understand your point about supply and the TBs...It is only a one off raid..Maybe done one more time...The point is to keep him offbalance...
He can close down Clark easily so I do not want to keep planes there..Just a bit of hit and run.

Most of PI nuggets are in Aussie...But your point is well taken..Especially given
he is not pushing China. And I am more than happy to let dead dogs lie there. While he can always in theory start attacking, between the level 9 forts and a lot of movement on my part, any going there will be long and slow (unless he does heavy strategic bombing).

Am a bit surprised he has done nothing with the KB...While boring, he could send it through the DEI and I would have to flee...It would not bother me too much but doing nothing with it seems a bit strange...Anyway, Cenpac islands being built up....Getting forts above level 3 takes an annoying long amount of time.

Pretty quiet turn. Not much air activity. Not much sea fighting either...

What little excitement was on land.

Ground combat at Brunei

Japanese Bombardment attack

Very strange...He can take it at will...the bombardments do no damage...Of course when it falls a massive bomber attack is planned.

Ground combat at Singapore

Attacking force 56365 troops, 371 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 823

Japanese max assault: 618 - adjusted assault: 266

Japanese ground losses:
735 casualties reported
Guns lost 27

Allied ground losses:

[:(]Given it is a level 6 fort, not a great kill ratio....

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ground combat at Admiralty Islands

Japanese Shock attack

Attacking force 669 troops, 4 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 28

Japanese forces CAPTURE Admiralty Islands base !!!

Allied ground losses:
5 casualties reported

I have 2 and 1/2 more divisions coming in..Will start to counterattack then. It would be nice to see my bombers actually drop some bombs....But everyday is thunderstorms everywhere......Common, I do not think late Dec was the middle of monsoon season.....

rest...lots of rest and a good leader (with good administration skills)

Reason i asked was, Morale directly impacts the casualties you inflict on your opponent. If they are tanked...your not going to hurt him as much.

I replaced Percival with a semi decent leader..Not one of the better ones as I do not wanted a good leader captured. My guys are not attacking so hopefully that helps them rest....However, that does not stop the IJA from annoying them....

Thanks..

Day Air attack on TF at 26,48

Allied aircraft
Buffalo I x 22

Allied aircraft losses
Buffalo I: 1 damaged

Japanese Ships
AP Yasukuni Maru, Shell hits 8
AP Arizona Maru, Bomb hits 1
AP Sanko Maru, Shell hits 4
AP Anyo Maru, Shell hits 4

Well need to get their experience up..No troops on those ships it seems.

Day Air attack on TF, near Kuching at 28,56

Allied aircraft
T.IVa x 5

Allied aircraft losses
T.IVa: 1 destroyed, 3 damaged

Japanese Ships
CA Takao

I had 3-4 attacks near Kuching with various planes. None did any damage. I lost a 2-3 planes for my efforts
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sub attack at 113,73

Japanese Ships
SS I-174, hits 2

Allied Ships
DD Dunlap, Torpedo hits 2,  on fire,  heavy damage
DD Kane
DD Chew
DD Litchfield

Dunlap sunk...Rather disappointing....It would be nice to see US ASW actually kill a sub.....I have killed 4, but all were thanks to massive ASW air, not TFs...Speaking of which, EXP low 70s Martins had 2 hits on IJN subs today...I doubt they sink, but maybe they leave for repairs.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ASW attack at 113,73

Japanese Ships
SS I-174, hits 1

Allied Ships
DD Kane

Ground combat at Singapore

Japanese Shock attack

Attacking force 51828 troops, 341 guns, 219 vehicles, Assault Value = 1276

Defending force 45696 troops, 229 guns, 11 vehicles, Assault Value = 556

Japanese max assault: 162 - adjusted assault: 100

Allied max defense: 552 - adjusted defense: 855

Japanese assault odds: 0 to 1 (fort level 6)

Japanese ground losses:
216 casualties reported
Guns lost 2
Vehicles lost 6

Allied ground losses:
402 casualties reported
Guns lost 10

Very disappointing kill ratio. Especially given the adjusted assualt ratios. IJN troops should be exhausted after 3 shock attacks (and fort levels have not gone down...)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ground combat at 32,30

Japanese Shock attack

Attacking force 1622 troops, 0 guns, 108 vehicles, Assault Value = 63

Defending force 4228 troops, 38 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 132

Japanese max assault: 68 - adjusted assault: 6

Allied max defense: 139 - adjusted defense: 159

Japanese assault odds: 0 to 1

Japanese ground losses:
110 casualties reported
Vehicles lost 8

This is the hex next to Mandalay. I was defending it..He decided to cross the river..Given it is a small unit and must be in bad shape, I will counterattack tomorrow.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ground combat at Mandalay

Allied Bombardment attack

Attacking force 10407 troops, 97 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 308

Defending force 20813 troops, 191 guns, 6 vehicles, Assault Value = 401

Japanese ground losses:
17 casualties reported
Guns lost 1

Allied ground losses:
6 casualties reported
Guns lost 1

The result is fine...Big worry is that he brought in another division....One of my divisions should arrive in 2 to 3 days...The other should take a week....Forts up to level 2...Will be a while before level 3....

Day Air attack on 33rd Division, at 33,30

Japanese aircraft
Ki-27 Nate x 4

The sub from yesterday not budging..But 9 DDs continue to be useless.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ground combat at Brunei

Japanese Shock attack

)

Japanese forces CAPTURE Brunei base !!!

No surprise...He still has 270 of 300 oil units undamaged...Massive air attacks
including 25 B-17s for tomorrow (massive in the sense of percent of units in
DEI..Not massive relative what is possible in the future.)

Ground combat at Singapore

Japanese Shock attack

Attacking force 67009 troops, 503 guns, 41 vehicles, Assault Value = 1326

Defending force 45617 troops, 245 guns, 9 vehicles, Assault Value = 576

Japanese max assault: 30 - adjusted assault: 9

Allied max defense: 575 - adjusted defense: 1873

Japanese assault odds: 0 to 1 (fort level 6)

Japanese ground losses:
168 casualties reported
Guns lost 8
Vehicles lost 2

Allied ground losses:
121 casualties reported

Again, given the adjusted attacks, I would have preferred a better result.

Ground combat at Mandalay

Japanese Bombardment attack

Attacking force 20763 troops, 188 guns, 6 vehicles, Assault Value = 401

Defending force 13517 troops, 124 guns, 5 vehicles, Assault Value = 309

Allied ground losses:
16 casualties reported
Guns lost 2

He is not being aggressive yet....Level 2 forts...Next move up at 33%
As said, next turn I get another division there.
