Iran Strike, 2022 (Updated August 8, 2025)

Finally got a chance to play through this a couple of time. I really like the sandbox nature of the scenario and the different ways of playing it. I will say the using the Jericho 3s felt like cheating since I 'won' immediately. Overall this was very enjoyable to play.

My suggestions would be to:

• Allow the 'Upgrade Iranian Air Force' options for the United States-Israel side

• The Iranian AF doesn't seem to react to cruise missile strikes. I was able to destroy radars and SAM sites without triggering a response. Even destroying some of the nuclear sites didn't seem to invoke a reaction

• Would it be possible to give Syria better SAMs? I believe they have three or so S-300 batteries

It already is. It gets turned off, along with a number of other options, after you've started playing.

I'll take a look at the Iranian WRA. I might have been overly restrictive with it.

No, that's not planned. Syria is meant to be a blocker, or a time sync, not a serious threat.

Got it. It was a little confusing to see it when playing the 'Israel' or 'United States' side, but not for 'United States-Israel'.

Update 9/7/2022:
• Added third Iranian Air Force Upgrade special action. Chance to upgrade Iranian F-4, F-14, and MiG-29 squadrons to Su-30s, Su-35s, or J-10s.
• Added Upgrade Iranian IADS Air Defenses special action. Chance to replace each Iranian I-HAWK with a modern SAM system.
• Added Upgrade Iranian IADS Early Warning Radars special action: Randomly adds additional early warning radars
• Added special messages for special actions with randomization.
• Additional adjustments to Iranian WRA.

Should have the 2025 variant ready for testing by the weekend.

Another small update to add some requests from my Discord.

Update 12/21/2022:
• Added additional USAF recon assets to Al Dhafra AB. 2x RQ-4B Global Hawks, 12x MQ-9A Reapers, 4x RQ-170 or RQ-180s (Random).
• Deploy B-2 special action can now be repeated twice, for a total of 12 B-2s. This makes it easier to do an all B-2 strike.
• Civilian aircraft will stop flying once Iran has become alerted. Airborne aircraft will continue to destination but should stop flying after landing.

Update 7/28/2023:
• Updated scenario to DB501.
• Fixed error in F-15E script. Will now add the proper amount of F-15Es.
• Added Random AAA
• Added Random SHORAD
• Added additional random SAM options.
• Added special action to add additional AAA at Natanz. Imagery from May 2022 indicates that most of the AAA around the Natanz facility has been removed. Correspondingly by default there is a very low chance for AAA to be placed during scenario setup. Use this action if you wish to replace most of the AAA around the facility.
• Split Upgrade Iran AD into two actions. One using only domestic Iranian systems, one with FMS purchases.
• Split Upgrade Iran EW into two actions. One using only domestic Iranian systems, one with FMS purchases.
• Unneeded sides will now be deleted at scenario start, i.e. when playing as the United States Israel and Syria will be deleted.

Just uploaded version 4 RC for testing! Full change log is in the first post.

I've done a lot of testing on my own and I think everything is working but can't 100% guarantee it.

Highlights in this update include:
• Updated to DB502.
• Special Actions Overhaul.
• Added Cyberattacks special actions.
• Added optional Search and Rescue.
• Various other minor changes.

Special Actions Overhaul:
• Special Actions are now "gated" to help improve usability.
• Consolidated the USAF deployment actions. There is now a single action per aircraft type. To deploy units, select a friendly airbase and execute the desired action.
• Added a few new options: Iran Strike, 2023, Enable Search and Rescue, and Israel - Request US Missile Strikes.

Cyberattacks
• Conduct Cyberattack Against Iranian Command and Control. Affected Iranian units will become autodetectable. Aircraft will eventually be restored to normal, while facilities will remain autodetected.
• Conduct Cyberattack Against Iranian Communications. Affected Iranian units will be cut off from the Iranian common operating picture (set to no comms). Has a lower chance of success then the other actions.
• Conduct Cyberattack Against Iranian IADS. Affected Iranian units will be cut off from the Iranian common operation picture (set to no comms).

I have a few more that I plan to add but I didn't want to keep delaying the release until they are ready.

Each cyberattack will reduce the chance of success for succeeding actions. Effects will only last for a limited period of time. After the reset increment, there is a chance units will be reset to normal. The time between reset attempts will then be reduced and the chance of reset success will be increased. This will continue until all units have been reset.

Sent you a message on Discord. Can you provide a save? What actions had you/trying to execute? I loaded it up a few times and didn't see any errors.

And also the thrillers author, among other things, Joel Rosenberg, I will not post the link just in case is considered modern politics or whatever, but he was commenting the attack on Iran not after the war with Hamas, but after Hezbollah full attack in the same conflict we are now seeing, if it happens…

Is there a typo is the special action strike 2023? Should it be 2024?

I started updating the scenario a week before things blew up. I have a few other Iran scenarios on the drawing board but I'm going to ice those for now. I wouldn't feel comfortable releasing them if things do turn into a general conflict with Iran. I don't feel as bad with this scenario since I've updated multiple times over the course of the last year and a half. I'm going to work out the bugs in this one before updating 2025, then it'll be back to either the Libya scenario I was working on or a US strike on North Korea scenario.

I fixed the spelling of the special action last night. Originally I was going to have it be late this year, but I changed it to January 2024. Some dark humor on my part for having it start on the same day as ODS...and my birthday.

More Iran scenarios? Where have you hidden them?

They're in a different document. One of them is similar to Iran Strike but with a different target set, more of a general air strike/campaign vs Iran. Think Iran Strike with Black Gold Blitzs strike and counter strike. Player has to defend as well as attack. The other is a current Operation Brass Drum. Both scenarios built with the flexibility and options I have in my two current Iran scenarios.

Just uploaded a small update to both Steam and the first post. Huge thanks to ClaudeJ for pointing out a lua error to me.

Some people may see a AutoDetectableUnits exception fuse reached error. This is a game bug and has already been fixed. It'll be included in a future patch. The lua scripts triggering this should still work as intended.

Just read this (from Hans Kristensen), so here is a question, could this special kind of aircraft play a role in your scenario? No idea how these capabilities are simulated in CMO, but it is included in the database.

The USAF WC-135R Constant Phoenix “nuclear sniffer” is back over the Mediterranean, completing the second leg of a calibration flight along North Africa. The first leg happened Monday.
